Burn the flag!
« on: December 11, 2023, 03:59:04 AM »
Hey everyone,

I received some scoring flags from cundco a few weeks ago, and I'm meeting some issues with them... I wonder if anyone has the same trouble as me?

Color seems to have fade away from the parts, and they have a stroooong smell of burned material.
Also, they are obviously laser cutted, and there are dark marks near the cutting areas.
All flags have this issue, I ordered several colors to match all basic meeple colors (blue, yellow, red, green, black, pink) and all of them have this issue.

The smell is so strong we don't want to play with them and prefer to keep them stored where we can't detect them  ;D

I think I'll contact cundco to return these "super collector" items haha :)

Best regards,

Nicolas

I only bought 1 set and I am glad I did.  There are a couple flags that can only be read from one side.

When it comes to the color: I remember that there is a sticker which you have to remove. The sticker might not be easy to detect. Only after that the real color appears

The strong smell of the laser-cut Meeple Flags goes away. If you can leave them in a well-ventilated place, you'll notice it fades away in no time.

Regarding the color, as @Challa007 says, there is a protective sticker on both sides. I read someone complaining about the faded colors until he noticed the stickers and removed them.

We were stop to using scoring flags on meeples. We are using 100 point scoring track from and by @Snearone because I got a copy from him.
But we used 100/200/300/400 flag to mark how many time we cross 100 point field.

Hi,

I contacted cundco and here is their answer:

Hello Nicolas Rousseaux,

thank you for your request.

About the colors, let me refer you to the English manual:

See picture below

The smell will disappear after some weeks, it's from the production process.
For the first using you maybe gets a bit dirty fingers, but this also disappears after multiple uses.

Best regards

I noticed a post about someone complaining on the french Facebook group as well, and gave him the answer. It seems it works indeed, but the white foil is not easy to peel.
I'll try on my own flags tonight and will post pictures.

I'm glad their service was so fast to answer and there is actually an easy way to solve this  :)

I originally ordered the flags as we often play with as much expansions as possible, and scores of 1200+ points are now a common thing here. We are using the original (C3) scoring board and the few 50/100 tiles we have, but that's definitely not enough  ;D

Best regards,

Nicolas

This sticker cover was so totally unexpected for me that when receiving my first flags from Cundco, I wrote them, complaining that the color of the flags is not the one I had ordered...  ::) Then I was kindly advised to peel the sticker off.

In the end we ordered the three most played colors and for our guest players a set of scoring flags by The Game Crafter. The issue with the smoke smell was not too bad in either of these flags (the Game Crafter even packed in a neat notice, warning of "a camp fire-like smell for about a week"...). When we play with guests, these Game Crafter scoring flags are actually a matter of envy as they seem a bit fancier to my sons. I like them, too.

I like the ones from Game Crafter better. You can see in one glimpse the players on the same laps.

Having the flags in the same color as the players removes that visual cue. :'(

You can accelerate the process of removing the smell by wiping the edges of the flags with a damp cloth to remove the soot from the laser-burning process.

It may be a good idea, or the soot will stain the meeple holding the flags.

Good idea indeed!
Anyway, an additional meeple is given with every flag set, so even if stained or damaged, it's already a "spare part"... :)
