eBay profiteering
« on: December 11, 2020, 08:11:31 AM »
Excuse the clickbait title.

I recently found myself in the position of wanting to ensure I got a Spiele 2020 tile but really not needing anything else. (Except two C2 labyrinths to complete my collection.)

After a little soul searching I placed an order as below. I thought it might be of passing interest to those of us who sometimes sneer at eBay prices (myself included) to see how it played out.

3 x Labyrinths (2 x C2 for me, 1 x C2, 3 x C1 to sell)
1 x Spiele tile for me
1 x tile storage Tower for me
1 x Watchtowers to sell
1 x Festival to sell

This qualified for the 20 euro minimum order (for the Spiele tile) and, including shipping charge, was about £24 delivered to me in the UK.

I set pretty low auction start prices on eBay. Around £2 for single labyrinth tiles and £4 for the mini expansions.

The labyrinths sold for around £2.00-£2.50 with one at £3.00.
Total of eBay, Paypal and postage charges were around £1.40 for each for these.

Helpfully the Festival and Watchtowers did really well and sold for £6.50 and £12.50 respectively.
Total charges around £3.00 total for both these.

I've rounded for the sake of simplicity, so don't check my maths too closely, but overall it worked out pretty well
Net costs to me of the items I wanted were:
Spiele tile free :)
labyrinth tiles just over £1 each
tile tower just over £2

Even so it did give me new respect for some of the eBay sellers since the multiple charges really eat into small value items. Clearly, I couldn't make a living at these prices.
