Mega-carcassonne at conventions
« on: June 02, 2014, 04:07:45 PM »
Here is an idea that has been kicking around my head for a while. I am trying to get it out of my head to see if it floats or sinks.

I wondering if at the bigger games conventions such as UK games exp there is any scope to book a room dedicated to Carcassonne. So for two consecutive slots at UK games expo http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/run_event.php we could have enough time and space for refereed mega-carcassonne game (or even games in plural if the idea proves popular) and a dedicated space to try out variants, and fan stuff.

I know that I would love to stand back and referee a 6-player game of mega-Carcassonne. Just no catapult - at least on my table.

Any thoughts?

 :))

Certainly understandable and I think most of us would do without it. I haven't had much time to go thru the Catapult and also check online for variants (or on this forum) yet. Hopefully something useful will turn up.
All I care about is using the tiles from the expansion.

As much as I would love to participate, I doubt I will ever get time to travel. But I would love to see the game online, live or highlights filmed.

Fantastic idea!

I believe Carcking took part in a similar event last year. He did an excellent write-up afterwards which can be found on this thread:

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=266.0

I would be only too keen to take part in something like this, but having a good knowledge of all expansions and how they work together as a pre-requisite may be asking too much from some people who may just be turning up to see what all the fuss is about. I have no doubt that it certainly could work, but it would have to be managed quite carefully I think.

Check out my Mega-Carc report from last year in this thread.

We are attending GenCon this year and are so excited. We have made the leap to become game moderators this year...my wife and I. We will be hosting two 6 player games of A Touch of Evil. They sold out instantly when event registration went live. That was gratifying. Now we're busy practicing 6 player games to get ready. :) We're nervous and excited!

My wife and I are of course registered in the Carcassonne Kingdom game again so we can attempt to defend our title! Can't wait for that but I know it will be a challenge. My greatest partner is my wife. She is a very good Carc player.

This year will be crazy because registration is at an all time high, event entries are at an all time high, and the block of hotel rooms sold out in record time. There is going to be a lot of people there no doubt. We're really looking forward to it!
I just drew the perfect tile for my MonKnighThieFarmer!

Check out my Mega-Carc report from last year in this thread.

Wow I was thinking of sticking much closer to the CAR. Basically all the sets I own plus any fan expansions if I have sufficient confidence in them and some house-rules:

1.) The river fork is the starting tile and all other river pieces are played out randomly until the rivers terminate. Then any other starting pieces are laid out next to the river by consensus to maximise playability.

2.) 3 points for filling a hole with a normal tile.

3.) La Porxada sane rules as discussed elsewhere.

4.) Shrine/Monastery challenges score the combined score.

So far the one fan expansion I really have confidence in is my walls expansion.

I am working on getting a complete set of all the playable expansions. I reckon this would take about 6 hours to play.

Anyway have a merit for sharing the link.

I guess the advice I am really looking for is in terms of logistics. Should I schedule toilet stops and lunch and stuff like that?

Well I could just have a house rule that you can take a leek anytime you want but every time you miss a go for leeking you lose 5 points.  :)

There may be unfortunate consequences of that rule amongst those who are taking the game very seriously!

More seriously I was thinking of aiming for 50 minute sessions and 10 minute breaks.

Thought I continue this thread instead of making a new one. After all this is related to megaCarc and conventions.  :@

A lazy preview made with real tiles, how 100x100 (10.000 tiles) would look like:
Original 2800x2800 3.6 mb file: http://sydby.com/carcassonne/screenshots/Carcassonne100x100tiles.jpg

My goal is to get enough tiles to start this game. So far I'm at just under 900 tiles.  8)

Sounds like we got our next spin off. Carcassonne India.  :(y)

Count - Taj Mahal
The River - Ganges
etc.

The original file is actually much larger, 28000 x 28000 pixels, but my computer can't handle that if I try to save it as one big image.  :o

That would be 4,5 x 4,5 meter.. considering your laying everything perfect..

Yep. ;D Already working on the house rule to force players to fill the gaps, either by placing their tile or re-arranging the tiles around the gap to enable it to be filled.
Any idea on this house rule is more than welcomed. Mine is balanced, rewarding players rather than punishing their placement.

A link to 100x100 tiles preview script. Might take a few seconds before the script is done drawing the board.
This is just the quick version. Working on rotation and tile to tile matching each side.
