General / Combining Spin-off Games
« on: June 25, 2016, 09:29:18 AM »
So there I was last night on Facebook and amongst all the rubbish about the UK Euro vote was a post from Carcassonne Central... og bliss and thank-you said 1!!  :D

The post in question was showing a completed game that had combined South Seas, Hunters & Gathers and The Discovery... now that looked really good. Given that it was posted by CC, anyone have a set of suggested rules as to how it might play? Had a quick look through forum and can't see anything obvious jumping out.

General / Farmassonne app
« on: January 26, 2016, 07:29:16 AM »
I came across this one yesterday was searching on Google Play.

Not excatly well disguised! Farmassonne is apparently ideal for people who like the game of Carcassonne.... No Sh*t Sherlock!!  ;D ;D

Anyway, I stuck it on both tablet and phone and gave it a go. You can play it solo against to 'pooter, online against real people, or between friends with pass and play. It's Carcassonne (obviously!) with the difference, apart from naming conventions and art work, that you get just four meeples and then three tractors. The tractors are for the fields, once placed they stay there. The Meeples for the rest, so you are a bit more limited. The scoring is completely different as far as one quick game could work out. Solo play needs a bit of work, you can't seem to alter the difficulty setting as yet.

If you think of it as a spin-off game that doesn't change a lot (Winter Carcassonne, Wheel of Fortune?) but on your phone/tablet, then it's OK.

Grab it before the publishers jump in and make them take it down!!  ;D

It's free. No idea about iThingy availability.

Official Rules / Carcassonne: The City - The Gate?
« on: January 02, 2016, 04:35:46 AM »
Having owned it for at least six years and never ever played it(!) we decided it was about time to get The City out. I have the original version that came in the rather large wooden box. Goodness only knows why we waited so long, it's fantastic and looks really good once the walls start going up.

Question: Does anyone have an opinion, or know the rule regards placing the Gate? The rules supplied simply say that when the first scoring from the second stack of tiles takes place, the player that placed the tile takes the Gate and places it followed in clockwise order by the other players placing a wall piece next to it. Players may place a meeple (Guard) on the section of wall they have just laid......   But, what about the Gate? Can the player that placed it put a meeple on top of the Gate?

General / Tile Distribution Lists?
« on: December 31, 2015, 06:54:53 AM »
I'm looking for a set of pictorial lists for each expansion of the tiles in each set. I have quite a few that don't have the symbols on them. Looked in Annotated rules but doesn't seem to have it... unless I missed it. There's something that's not really what I wanted. Anyone know somewhere?

General / Winter Carcassonne and the Gingerbread Man Expansion together
« on: December 28, 2015, 08:04:39 AM »
This cropped up on FaceBook a week or so back from a post by Carcassonne Central (shared from Hans Im Gluck), I'm assuming that comes out of here? It was suggesting that people with Winter Carcassonne should buy the Gingerbread Man expansion. So me being me waded in with all all guns blazing and the following conversation ensued:

ME: Not exactly a lot of point as this expansion is supplied inside Carcassone Winter Edition sets.... Well, it was when I got mine.

CarcassonneCentral: It's not intended to be included inside the Winter Edition set, but some retailers were giving it away with purchase when it came out originally.

Me: So how come it's printed about it's inclusion directly on my box and the rules for it are on the same sheet as the main rules?

CarcassonneCentral: Hmm... must be a North America thing. Some of us were impatient and bought the German version.

Me: Nope, bought in a basic toy shop in Devon. UK. Z-man ZMG78610.

At that point the conversation stopped. So here it is again for all to discuss!  :) As stated above, mine was purchased in a private toyshop (franchised with Toymaster) in Plymouth, Devon, UK not that long after it's original release. The shop sells mostly kids toys with a few shelves of reasonable games at the back. He usually has a few copies of Carcassonne games and the odd expansion.

My box has it printed on the front lid that it includes the Gingerbread expansion... Not a sticker. On the back it's included within the contents list and the expansion rules printed on the back page of the main rules sheet.

General / Storage/Cases/Boxes etc
« on: December 28, 2015, 07:53:34 AM »
I have all the main/large expansions through to Hills and Sheep and a few of the smaller ones. I'm thinking that maybe I should keep it all in one large box/case. I've been having a look around the net and so far I seem to be narrowing it down to the following options:

Wooden custom made boxes.... These are far too expensive for the budget I'm thinking of
Plastic Craft style boxes... There is an Artbin one that gets mainly only reviews about Carcassonne(!) on Amazon (UK)
Cardboard Box.... Not happy with this idea.
DIY Job... My skills are a bit on the clumsy side to say the least.

So, what's the thinking here? Anyone got any experiences to offer? Ideally I'm looking for links to sites that I may have missed.

Official Rules / Tower tile completes a city...
« on: August 23, 2015, 01:51:54 PM »
Sorry for my sudden overload of Tower related questions, not played it for ages and lots of things got thrown up tonight.

So.... Two players both occupying a city, which actually was huge and had a cathedral in it. Player A places the completion tile which has a tower on it. It sits next to the tile with Player B's meeple.... which is the correct order:
1) Player A places a tower and takes off Player B's meeple as his prisoner, thus scoring the city to himself - 60 points!
2) The city is cored first, thus dividing the points between both PlayerA and Player B, 230 points each. Player A can then place a tower piece should he still wish.
???

We decided it should be option 2. Which is the correct way though?

Official Rules / The Dragon and Meeples on Towers
« on: August 23, 2015, 01:44:29 PM »
If the Dragon moves onto a space with a tower occupied by a meeple on top, does the meeple get taken off the tower?
Can the fairy protect under such circumstances?

General / The Castle Expansion
« on: August 18, 2013, 09:03:52 AM »
Some time ago there was talk of an expansion for The Castle, to be called Falcon I think. Obviously since then Z-Man have entered the fray. Having had a look around here, there seems no other posts about it. Anything happening?

Other Games / Kingdom Builder
« on: August 18, 2013, 08:23:55 AM »
Any Kingdom Builder fans here? I would hope so, after all, they may be a bit bigger but it uses a tile system for it's boards!!  ;D

I have the main game, Nomads expansion plus the two mini expansions of Capitol and Caves... the lot in fact. Also looking forward to the new Crossroads expansion when they get round to releasing it here in the UK.

It's a very popular game in the Wishmaster household and with my current gaming group.
