My 2012 Winter Edition is an HiG, but in comparing the two I see that both have the date of manufacture stamped on the inside of the box, so I think you're getting a genuine version.

Those 50-point meeple-shaped tokens appear to be 3D printed. It's a used copy, so clearly the previous owner has upgraded it slightly. If I were ever to sell a game, people can expect the same from me.

Official Rules / Re: Table edge rules
« on: June 28, 2023, 10:20:35 PM »
Since this is the Official Rules forum, officially you're not allowed to move the tiles. The starting tile is supposed to go in the middle of the table and that's that. When you reach the edge, you may add another table of similar height, or disallow expansion in that direction. I think also officially the edges of the table do not complete features, though if I recall correctly the situation is different with maps. There are several inconsistencies like this in the official rules.

Unofficially, at my house I allow the tiles to be moved once after the river is finished, before we switch to the non-river tiles. I like to center the entire river on the table so that everyone has roughly equal opportunity to build towards their edge of the table.

There are several official and non-official expansions that have a distinctly medieval theme (such as Joff's medieval series, or the Plague expansion). As Bumsakalaka said, there have been non-medieval elements long before the pandemic. The next official expansion, Wonders of the World (working title, subject to change), introduces pre-medieval buildings.

I would lean towards hiding it entirely.

Community Rules (Meepledrone & Friends) / Re: Playing a 2 hour game

Offering suggestions is encouraged by the rules, but I’m struggling to understand how it becomes unfair when you know what the tile is in advance. Typically the unfairness argument is that it prevents other players from being able to draw that tile.

I haven’t seen anyone convert anything to C3 yet. There are some conversions between C1 and C2 over on the German and Czech forums.

I didn’t realize that this hadn’t arrived yet, but sure enough my C3 set was missing a pair of dice for the brown player. It was so long ago that I ordered these, that I forget when it was.

I’ve notified Asmodee and asked them to replace the photo.

I asked them to add photos and that's what we got. One of our Facebook fans has ordered and will let me know what it looks like when it arrives.

Unofficial Rules / Re: Playing "quicker" games

I would suggest a round limit, so that each player gets an equal number of turns, and full potential access to every tile.

In an interesting development, the C1 version of Monasteries in Germany is now available in the Asmodee shop. This has been difficult to find for many years now. https://shop.asmodee.com/carcassonne-5-german-cloisters-mini-expansion-ze014
