Many of you know earlier this year Anne Pätzke gave an interview at the BoardGameBeaver (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3096.0).
We had an insight into the difficult work of producing new artwork for one of the most love boardgames of all time!
I've recently been in correspondence with Anne and she's been so incredibly kind!
She agreed to sign some tiles I sent her, but she also included some of her own, to give away as prizes over the next few months.
It's an important year for Carcassonne Central as we are reaching several important milestones!
I received a small package yesterday from Anne and she was also kind enough to share 'An Instant Postcard' she sent me for our correspondence:
I originally sent 12 tiles to be signed, but Anne included another 13. In fact I've almost lost count!
So now I've got the hard task of distributing them amount out to Carcassonne fans across our community :(y)
I'll give you a sneak peak of some of the tiles now, over the next few days/weeks I'll be sharing everything that was in my package, and hopefully finding them new homes:

Over the next few months there will be numerous ways to win/earn/select one of these tiles. The first is tomorrow afternoon!
I've been given strict instructions to only share these tiles with fans of her work.
I have been explicitly told to not share these tiles with individuals who may remove the original artwork in order to use the tiles from fan-expansions.
Yes... someone actually did that. But let's focus on the positive things!
Be warned - any comments which I consider rude or nonconstructive on this thread or in relation this this thread will result in minimum 2-week ban from Carcassonne Central. So my advice would be to hold your tongues and allow the fans of Anne Pätzke work compete in peace!
So now it's bed time for me, but just a warning for everyone! There will be a contest tomorrow afternoon, which will start at noon-BST (UK).
Winners will be first to respond with the correct answer/answers, so you may want to subscribe to this thread now for details.

Update with details!

Definitely interested. Most of my Carcassonne Tiles are New Art and I think she does a fantastic job.
-
Well done for getting in touch with her Decar. And thanks to Anne Pätzke for providing you with such cool prizes to give away!
+1 merit from me

Our First Contest:
Penguin On The Road
When I was a child, I used to have a wooden block puzzle, which I think was from Japan.
A few weeks ago my parents popped over on a visit and left it with me.
There's a certain Carcassonne-esque quality about it, and it must be at least 25 years old now, if not 30.
I was going to share it with you, but I thought...might as well make it a game!
It's called 'Penguin in the Road', here's the first tile:
It's funny because the Penguin is clearly on a surf-board, not a road. Perhaps it was meant to be 'Penguin on the Board', who knows.
Another fun tile was this one:
Here the Penguin has fallen off his board and 'SOS' (Save Our Souls) is written above its head.
To solve the puzzle one must construct a continuous road, using all the pieces from 'Start' to 'End', leaving no gaps. And make sure all the pieces fit onto the 5x6 grid.
Here are all the tiles jumbled up together on the puzzle-board:
If you need a bigger picture you can download it here. (http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/Puzzle1.png)
To Enter:
To enter the contest I'll need two pictures from you: 1)Your valid completed solution and 2)A picture of you solving the puzzle
DON'T POST YOUR ANSWERS HERE - send me a PM with your 2 images.
I believe there is only one solution, kudos to anyone who finds 2!
(Note: you may also notice the occurrence of a carrot, I believe the original piece was missing and we acquired a replacement block)
-
You have a PM ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Done it! PM on the way. Thanks for the fun challenge Decar!
-
Damn, i am so rubbish at this! Im afraid ill have to skip this one and try my luck at the next challenge hahaha
-
I've not been definite about who'd win - so don't give up just yet :)
-
Damn, i am so rubbish at this! Im afraid ill have to skip this one and try my luck at the next challenge hahaha
Don't despair! I was fiddling about with it for about an hour before I finally arrived at a solution!
-
PM sent on you Slack channel PMs. That was fun, but nearly gave up five minutes before I solved it. ;D
-
I finally solved it but I'm not really sure what 2 pictures to send in. The solved images seems to depict both pictures. I'm sure I'm interpreting the sentence but would like some clarification.
-
Just send me a picture of your finished solution. And another picture of you solving it....be imaginative :)
No problem receiving results on slack either if it is easier!

Aha! Thanks. I'll see how large the filming part is, if I can send you that. Took me like 5 mins to do it, and this was after I had finished it before knowing how to. :D
-
Paul, it's great to see you taking part in the contest, but I feel you've overcomplicated the requirements somewhat.
I tried last night, but was unable view your video from my phone. I decided spend 20minutes booting up my dying latptop, switch Windows Aero off, close every application I possibly could, including the virus scanner...and got the same result:
(See the Attached)
As a result: I've not seen either of the requested photos from you, nor your optional video of your solution!
I did see you post a photo to slack yesterday before you started, I'd happily receive your photos in a private message there if it is easier for you. None of the other contestants have had problems sharing a photo with me!
-
Paul - I've sent you a Direct Message in Slack
-
As a great supporter of the new edition of Carcassonne and his new illustrator, I absolutely have to take part in the contest!
(I do not even have a signed card, not even the from the old edition :'( )
Can I print the image to try to solve it?
-
You might find this version of some help.
-
That's the plan anemia....but Private Message your answer, so not to spoil the fun for others!
-

but I don't understand how to put the photos in a PM... help! :o
Photos sent! ;D

Well done to everyone and their entries! I'll be drawing a deadline of tomorrow lunchtime (uk time). Then annoucning the winners before beginning the next contest!

You are going to have to work hard to beat that one Decar. Thanks, again, for the great puzzle. It was really enjoyable and even more frustrating.

Do I still have time to enter?

It's not lunchtime yet....but it's not long!
If you're a Spaniard living in the UK, is lunchtime still 3pm? :-\
-
I'm not Spanish I'm afraid...but there will be other opportunities to win a tile!
-
We're running for approximately 10-more minutes.
When the contest has finished, I would appreciate it, If players could refrain from sharing their answers, at least until I've posted the provided solutions and workings out as well as the winners.
-
Pens and Papers down... I'm no longer accepting solutions.
Don't worry I'll be announcing a new contest on this thread very soon!
-
So....
The time has come!
To share the answers!
Dish out some prizes!
And Generally pat ourselves on the back!
Here was my solution:
Here are the approximate response times from the contestants....in reverse order:
26th July - 9:02am - Paul:
Due to technical difficulties Paul's answer came in late, but I don't think anyone beat him to the submission.
Great to see you using Carcassonne Tiles Paul. I believes Paul also made a Video of his solution he'll be sharing with us soon. :(y)
25th July - 5:06 PM - Anemia
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/anemia1.jpg)(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/anemia2.jpg)
Anemia - you definitely look like the most happy contestant solving that puzzle!
25th July - 3:48 PM - thodekey
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/thodekey1.jpg)(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/thodekey2.jpg)
Beautiful use of the River Tiles thodekey!
24th July - 8:04 PM - thesteveallen
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/thesteveallen1.jpg)(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/thesteveallen2.jpg)
Great work straightening those block out!
24th July - 6:01pm - Danisthirty
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/danisthirty1.JPG)(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/danisthirty2.JPG)
An ingenious solution to the problem of not having blocks!
24th July - 2pm - Squiffything answers:
An impressive work Squiffything - that was a rapid, no-nonsense response.
24th July - 1pm - The contest begins!
So by my count... There were actually 7 unique solutions to the problem...but no individual found more than one of them :(
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/S1.jpg)
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/S7.jpg)(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/S2.jpg)(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/S3.jpg)
(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/S5.jpg)(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/S6.jpg)(http://tehill.net/carcassonne/fun/AnnePatzke/puzzle1/S4.jpg)
I have to say that Anemia's solution is by far the most unique - well done again!
And now the prize giving!
Here are the tiles I presented at the start of the contest:
In the order in which I've received correct results.. you may select one tile.
1)SquiffyTheThing
2)Danisthirty
3)thesteveallen
4)thodekey
5)anemia
6)Paul
Paul just so you know. This is an Anne Pätzke, neither Dan or I have signed the tile ;)
Anemia, if it's true you don't yet have a signed tile in your collection, I'm sure I can find an extra Klaus-Jürgen Wrede for your unique solution!
Please let me know your selections...in order :)
PS/Edit: This is my 4000th post at Carcassonne Central - that's pretty amazing and a post well spent I think!
-
Yay me!
and yay all the others, Anemia deffo gets the best piccie result.
I'd like the maze tile please as I've only got my copies in the collection and I'd like a official version.
Sorry to anyone who'd got their eye on it.
-
I really like how everyone went their own way to create and solve this.
My video is now made public, with the solution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYC-9foUDoY
I never thought to try different solutions, would have been fun to see how many I could find.
Thank you for the contest!
Paul
PS: LOL! I'll never hear the end of my error with the signed tile, will I?
-
Thanks again Decar for this great competition. Well done to everyone who had a go regardless of whether you managed to solve it or not.
An ingenious solution to the problem of not having blocks!
Thanks. We still have a LOT of cardboard boxes left over from the move so this was bound to happen. Personally I think mounting it on yet more cardboard was a stroke of genius...
PS/Edit: This is my 4000th post at Carcassonne Central - that's pretty amazing and a post well spent I think!
Congrats! :(y) (but you're not having yet more merit from me for this achievement!)
PS: LOL! I'll never hear the end of my error with the signed tile, will I?
Absolutely not!
I'd like the maze tile please as I've only got my copies in the collection and I'd like a official version.
Sorry to anyone who'd got their eye on it.
Not at all. It was tempting because it was unique, but the Gingerbread Man has always been one of my favourite expansions so I already had my heart set on that. Please can I go for the cccc tile that's a single city rather than either of the 4-way splitters or the swirly one that looks like it's fresh out of Costa... (what's with that anyway?)
-
I will go for the CCFF tile please. If you can give me Squiffy's address, I'd appreciate it very much so that I can call round and rob him of his labyrinth tile. >:D
Well done to everyone who completed the challenge. It took me a little over 2 hours, so I think I was about the slowest contender.
-
I like the fact that everyone came up with another solution. I'd like to go for the swirly one...i like surprises! I hope it's the size of a tile... ????
-
Sorry thodekey, that particular tile has been reserved for another purpose. If you like a suprise though I can put another side from the next bunch for you!
-
I like the fact that everyone came up with another solution. I'd like to go for the swirly one...i like surprises! I hope it's the size of a tile... ????
I've a feeling the swirly one has been swirlyised to indicate that it has already been claimed. I'd post another preference just incase this is the case...
EDIT: Decar beat me to it by 17 seconds!
-
Sorry thodekey, that particular tile has been reserved for another purpose. If you like a suprise though I can put another side from the next bunch for you!
That's OK. My bad. Sorry.
I don't own any of the C2 artwork so i don't have a specific preference. So i'll go for the winter edition CCCC splitter unless someone else prefers that one OR Decar, even better: surprise me. ????
-
I'll make an informed decision based on your instructions and other people's guesses :)
Just so people know Anne donated her Gingerbread misprint to the stash. So one of those tilea is not like the other...good luck working out which one though!
-
hello! ;D
I'd like to have one of the 3 classic tile (in order of preference 1. the one with the garden, 2. the one like the start tile, 3. the church) or one of the cccc from Gingerbread.
Decar, you have also a message :) and thank you again for the nice contest!
-
ah! Decar... my nick is AENIMA not ANEMIA ;D
-
Hi Aenima - WHOOPs!
I think thesteveallen took the tile with the garden. So I'll save you the start tile (it is a start tile, it has a dark back) :(y)
Thanks for taking part - I'll drop you a reply this evening!
Paul - I think that leaves you with a choice of: The Cloister or one of the CCCC-splitter Tiles from Gingerbread-man!
-
So I'll save you the start tile (it is a start tile, it has a dark back) :(y)
YEEEEEEE >:D
-
If the cloister is the only one left in the "green" family, I'll take it. Thanks again for the contest!
-
Thanks you everyone:
Here are the selections:
I decided to keep the swirly tile as the mystery tile - we might do the same as in a future round - great idea :(y) :(y)
Keep an eye here over the next few days for another opportunity to claim one of Anne Pätzke's tiles!
In the mean time, Anne was kind enough to say that should would answer any questions we might have which she didn't answer in Beaver's review.
If you have any questions for her, post them here and I'll make sure they make their way to her!
-
Late to the game but just love how great this competition is! Round 2 coming soon maybe?
-
watch this space!

There's still chance to win some signed Carcassonne Tiles.
Specifically, these ones this round:
As we know Anne Pätzke, is an accomplished artist. She was kind enough to share a postcard with me:
This contest is is simple:
- Using the Postcard as a starting-point: Add some Colour, to create a new piece of art
Just like last time, to enter you must send me two things:
1)A picture of your completed work
2)A picture of you with your artwork in progress.
I'm intentionally being non-specific; so you can be creative.
Please don't share your completed work here.
PM me with a link to your images (or we can exchange email addresses).
(No videos this time please :P :P )
-
with colors or also in grayscale?
;D
-
PM sent!

Decar you have an email! @

Just a reminder for people to get there entries in. I've had a few more but not for a day or two!
-
How long have we got until it closes? I might even think of making a second entry if i have time hahaha ;)
-
I was planning on closing it just after out gencant is over. You've probably got time ;)
-
Didn't have enough time and going out tonight, but im still happy with my entry :)
-
I'll be drawing a close (excuse the pun) to this contest on Wednesday evening UK-time :(y)
-
Slight change of plan here - due to people's busy schedules...including my own - I'll look to do an update on the latest contest on Monday evening. So if you'd like to take part in this contest, please get your entries in for Monday lunch-time!
-
Any news? Can't wait to see if I am one of the lucky winners :D
-
Sorry for the delay everyone - There's a few logistic things I need to get sorted which have taken precedence here unfortunately!
I hope to get the posting done with everyone's entries this weekend!
-
Finally got around to uploading the pictures I received:
I have to say the calibre of the entries was far beyond what I expected!
I've listed out the entries in the order I received them:
1) Willem, I particularly like to figure sat under the tree with their goat. Great use of coloured pencil too.
2) Aenima, a wonderful picture, and very colourful. I like the attention to detail in the foreground as well as the way the blue roofs are highlighted!
3) Arvid84's entry was a night time shot and used computer aided design to apply colour to the image. The brush textures are very nice too. It looks like Arvid went over the original lines to make them stand out more. It's a very vibrant result!
4) Rosco - used Sharpies felt pens to colour in his design - and he even sent the completed picture to me! The final result is very artistic, using only splashes of colour give a hint of what's there. Rosco also left a hidden reference to our forum in the picture, but I'll leave that for you to spot.
5) TheSteveAllen, used a computer to help his design, but obviously liked the first puzzle so much, that he wanted to make his own, for me to solve! Very clever Steve!
I certainly think it would be unfair to try to rank these pieces of art as they are all so clever!
I have this feeling that I may have lost an entry I received early in the contest. Please let me know if I missed you!
Thankfully, I had 6 tiles to distribute this round, and only 5 contestants. So much like the last round, I think it's only fair to distribute the tiles in the order I received the entries (as they're listed above). I should say only 3 minutes separated the first 2 entries!
It's been great to see the many talented people we have on the forum take part in this contest! Thanks everyone for sending in their entries!
Here are the tiles again:
-
Cool to see all the entries!
And i must say, they look good!
The man under the tree didnt stand out to me when i was colouring it, but when i saw it, i did think it had its deserved spot there, as a shepperd i guess :)
I would like to claim the lower left tile, Winter CCRR :)
Ow, and as an added comment, I also like the Carcassonne Central reference in Rosco's entry :)
-
Yeeee!!! I'd like One of the cccc Winter file! ;D
-
Yeah! Awesome results, great to see the many different approaches 8)
I would like the Tower tile!
Thanks Decar
-
I didn't enter this one coz I'm artistically challenged but I just wanted to say fantastic work by all of you guys, well done and very well deserved winners. I would have hated to pick a winner from any of the entries.
-
Well said Squiffything!
-
Thanks Tom. I will have the non winter one if no-one chooses that one. Otherwise I don't mind which. Thanks again
Sent from my SM-A320FL using Tapatalk
-
Sorry Rosco, Arvid84 has claimed the Tower tile. One of the CCCC tiles remains as do the two crop-circle tiles.
-
Well done everyone who entered. I love the night scene in particular!
I would like one of the crop circle tiles - the farm one with the animals, unless Rosco wants it, and then I will take the other one.
-
I will have a crop circles one then thanks

Out of curiosity, shall I PM my address for you to send the tile Decar? ::)
And do you want anything for postage?
-
Hi Willem, email would be better, I think you have my address!
Sorry for the delay here, I've been distracted with life and things.... I've not forgotten to get those tiles out to you!!
-
They look Amazing!
