I'm curious to know what they're going to number their new expansion. They went out of their way to number Mists Over Carcassonne as Expansion 11, even though they did not number Wheel of Fortune 16 years ago. Meanwhile, the Expansion 7 slot has been vacant since Carcassonne 2.0.

I think I'd prefer either a complete reimagining of The Catapult, using the same number. Enough time has passed. Alternatively, they could re-release Wheel of Fortune as Expansion 7—they came out around the same time after all—and then make a new Expansion 12.

Yes, HiG are using the SdJ year (2001) for their counting.
Moritz told me this mainly started in 2010/2011, when they missed the 10th anniversary of the release of the game, and this was celebrated in 2011, so they stuck with it.

25th anniversary will be celebrated in 2026 from what he said

I was always scratching my head, not understanding the sophisticated reason behind the counting of the anniversary from SdJ title. If it was just missing the real year, then it is amusing :-D But I still cannot forgive the reluctancy to change the number 15 for 20 in the new edition of The Festival...  >:(

Well this is understandable, because we have symbol 20 used for 20th anniversary expansion. Question was why to not remove 15 from the festival symbol a not to replace by some fireworks with arrows which can symbolize to remove meeple from board :)

I think they've already finished creating Big Expansions. And they specifically finished with this expansion Under The Big TOP (10th expansion)

Ghosts is something like a standalone game... I wouldn't count it as the 11th expansion. They gave it the opportunity to be an expansion to the base game, which was a good move. If they didn't, sales would be lower (I'm guessing).

The replacement for the 7th expansion will be something (I'm guessing) new to overshadow the old one. It has to. :(y)
They'll have to score well (attract people) with that expansion in particular. I believe they gave themselves enough time to think up and create something new.

And as a classic. They'll stick to creating mini expansions (lower cost of creation) compared to creating a big expansion (need for a box)

Maybe they'll create something for Ghosts too. But I give that less probability. ???

What I've found interesting around MoC as well, is that Moritz said in a video that is was Expansion 11, and it is listed on Cundco under Expansions, but on the box and in the rules it doesn't refer to it as Expansion 11.

Reading from my wishlist, I´d love to see HiG focusing on two things this (or any next) year:

- developing further game material for Winter Edition
- providing a viable C3 travel version of the game

But I actually do not put much of hope on any of the two...

It's interesting, because they increase it's sales. Most of boardgame players I know are interesting in new games and not in expansions. They, I can say, hate expansions, because it change original game. And original game is good or not.

I'm happy, that I fell down in the Carcassonne universe. That count of official expansions and possibility to share fan-expansions... It's amazing.

Noticed this post on FB:

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BZew3yNAU/?mibextid=WC7FNe

It looks like a different starting tile in the left upper corner. Maybe a C3 version of the Count of Carcassonne? There seem to be some yellow-and-white patches on the edge. Not sure what those would be. Any idea?

I precisely asked Ron about this last week. He couldn't confirm MoC as the 11th expansion. But he also suggested that if the box doesn't show the number, this must be mean something.

So maybe we will have to update the references to this expansion (included in MoC) as soon as it is confirmed with the release of a new major expansion if it is numbered as Exp. 11.

What I'd like to see from HiG is some comprehensive storage solution for Carcassonne. A good looking box which has compartments for the series and maybe spinoffs.

Wow - what's that? It's the first time I see a collector's box! Would you mind sharing a few photos of the interior?

I suppose this is official confirmation that there are only 10 major expansions, and that may be the permanent canonical number going forward. They peaked at 10 and aren't looking to add more, at least not numerically.

I am *very* glad to see The Catapult getting replaced with something new, though I hope they keep the name and the concept of siege warfare. I can't help but note that The Besiegers was never made in the Carc2 or Carc3 art style so could easily become part of a larger expansion centered around siege warfare. Whatever they do, I'm sure they've been thinking about it for a long time and will release something fun and notable.

Other predictions:
Expansions 1-2 will not be touched since they already have Carc3 art in the Big Box.
Expansion 3 will see the Fairie rules simplified and the Dragon rules possibly tweaked.
Expansion 4 will see a complete rules overhaul due to the high number of exceptions when played with other expansions. I also think the Tower is going to get the axe so the expansion can fit in one of the new compact boxes.
Expansion 5 will see the Mayor given a little more power and the Wagon better defined.
Expansion 6 will have simpler rules for the Count and King & Robber Baron, and possibly the addition of fan-favorite Friar and Farmhand to score bonuses for Monasteries and Farms.
Expansion 8 will have a tweaked mechanic for Castles, redo Bazaars completely, and possibly tweak Bridges.
Expansion 9 may change how Vineyards work since they are sort of underpowered since the addition of Gardens.
Expansion 10 could use a thematic overhaul to bring it more in line with the Middle Ages—same mechanics but rename the expansion and replace the big top with something else.

I've gotta admit that I'm not interested in buying these 10 expansions just for a panorama that I will never use—the expansions are getting crammed inside the base game box and/or a tacklebox, just like all the others.
