There will be a new mini-expansion available at the Spiel Fair in Duisburg, from 23-25 March!

Is anyone going?

Sort of sounds like an expansion for Over Hill and Dale, but if it is for regular Carcassonne, it sounds cool.

Carcassonne really needs to increase its infrastructure spending.  You can't just let trees grow in the middle of roads.   :yellow-meeple:

Generally, this seems like a solid expansion without much potential contradiction with other expansions. Gotta love how all the promos just have standard disclaimer now that Hans im Glück won't waste time trying go figure out how the expansion works with other expansions. That's just lazy.

That's just lazy.

I believe these little sets are (primarily) just marketing tools to the various publishers. They don't really see them as an enduring part of a game system in the same way that we do. That's why they don't care all that much whether they work together, whether the Festival is aesthetically appealing, whether the Wind Roses actually have any significant gameplay value, etc. These things get created primarily because the marketing department just needs another 6 tiles for Event X or Product Y.
My stuff: The Caverns of Carcassonne | Wheel of Fortune versions | True North (wind roses) | Icon facelifts | Converting CII to CI | Signposts & the Château | The Vault | Riverboats & the Whirlpool | trade list

I know, but that is still lazy. Sure a number of other games do that—how many Zooloretto 6-enclosure bonus tiles are there?—but it still is lazy. When you are literally making products just to market that product, then that is short-sighted laziness. It is an infinite cycle, too, since there are always new expansion ideas that they can make. I feel this one, in particular, could actually have been a very good basis for a full expansion, but that won't happen now because it is wasted for yet another event. Is Hans im Glück so desperate for Carcassonne sales that they have to continuously flood the market with half-hearted, low-energy, incompatible expansions? I know why they do it, and the result is the same: it is lazy marketing.

Absolutely, and I was not trying to refute or diminish your point. I'm agreeing with you, and pointing out what I think is a causal factor. The marketing goals help explain the laziness but they do not excuse it. Regardless of a product's reason for existing, the publisher should still strive for craftsmanship. I sure as heck would.
