thodekey vs. Hounk
225:228

Very tight game, which turned out to be a close win of my German Monasteries against thodekey's big farm. Of course I was, like most times first on the big farm, and also another one, which turned out to be unoccupied in the end, though 21 points in theory. Things like that can happen with Towers.

There had been several really tough choices with what to do with the tiles. On one occasion, I used a tower tile to finish a 30 point worth city occupied by a regular meeple of mine and the big one of thodekey, of course removing the big guy. But it would have been nice to place on two other spots, too for removing farmers. Another time, I would have been able to finish my long road with inn and improve my centre monastery by 3 points for a total of 23 points (+ potentially 7 points, if the mage would have been removed again till the end). But I did not want to connect additional oponent's farmers to the big farm. Turned out to be the wrong decision, as I lost the farm anyway. This game had some ridiculously big scoring features, and was yet decided by just 3 points. So very lucky me indeed.

Interestingly, this match appears to be a complete reversal of last night's match for you Hounk. This time you won the Cloisters and lost the farm. This Semi Final set up seems to weigh heavily on these two scores.

Very good to see so many games being played in this competition. Remember that the 'Final' set-up is now 'live', so we can get some 'real' table positions worked out soon.

An unofficial update (nobody has yet played a 'Final' so there are no qualifiers yet).

 :violet-meeple: Sinscerly 204 - 352 Thodekey  :blue-meeple:

First game in the final setup and I guess that was more my cup of tea then the SF setup...although I think Sinscerly had a unlucky time.
Lots of things going in with all those expansions but here are those that were the real game changers in my opinion:

- While Sinscerly was building a large city with lots of trade goods in the east, I was building one in the north.  After a while I completed the city in the north with a majority of my meeples which gave me a points lead and some trade goods.  Meanwhile, Sinscerly countered my attempt to tie his city with 2 extra meeples.  I decided not to engage the city battle any further and used a castle to obtain the same points.  I was even lucky to draw the tile that closed that city resulting in sharing the points and obtaining some extra trade goods which gave me a comfortable lead in goods.
- In the end, I succeeded -by sheer luck and some more free meeples then Sinscerly at that time- in taking over the main farm as well which resulted in the exaggerated final score.

Good luck in your upcoming games, Sinscerly!

PS: we did have the bug with the bazaar tiles once (the bug where there is an auction of 2 identical tiles - in this case the normally unique CFRR tile from traders an builders where the little house near the city has its own road AND bridge over another road - I guess there were two rich, competitive guys in the same region in the southwest almost next to each other) but I don't think it was a game changer here.

TheSteveAllen  :yellow-meeple: 329 v Rosco  :red-meeple: 322

This was yet another good battle that was unpredictable right up to the end.

Once Rosco got the hang of the Count and the City of Carcassonne, this was duly abandoned and we entered a game of Abbey and Mayor.

Good luck came to both of us in equal proportions as I glommed on to the barn field in the early part of the game, and Rosco managed to get the tile he needed to close his big city before I really got a chance to trap his mayor and 4 followers inside.

Rosco's clever trapping of my mayor in the city by using the count eventually turned out to be fruitless, as he never got the CCXX tile that he so badly needed to win him the game.

Well played Rosco! That was another excellent game for the Alternative World Cup crowd. Good luck with your other games. I hope that they are all as close as this one.
