News and Events / Meeple Flags will replace scoring tiles
« on: August 18, 2021, 12:47:31 AM »
This is an spoiler about a new accessory HiG will be releasing to replace scoring tiles: Meeple Flags.

If you don't know what Meeple Flags are, check this out:

They were created by Game Crafter in the US:

https://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/meeple-flags-for-carcassonne

There is also a thread on CarcC discussing them a couple of years ago, where I first knew of them:

https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4209.0

After the introduction for the newcomers, let's go to the nitty-gritty...

As posted on Reddit by the creator of Meeple Flags himself:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Carcassonne/comments/p6gr2h/after_a_couple_of_years_i_have_now_contributed_an/

Quote
After a couple of years, I have now contributed an officially licensed Carc product!

I was contacted by Hans im Gluck (European publisher of carc) a few months back about my Meeple Flags that I sell on the Game Crafter. Hans Im Gluck and I signed a contract, making them officially licensed products. I even got a tile signed by Klaus himself! HiG will apparently be making their own version soon for the European market that has a harder time getting TGC products overseas. I'm not sure if that matters to many people, but the folks who make Carc are actually really nice people.

I was excited, but there aren't many people outside of this forum that really would know what I'm talking about, so I figured I'd share here :)

If you check, Cundco does not offer scoring tiles for the time being, so they should be available soon.

This is great news at least for those of us based in Europe, since the shipping costs from the US were rather steep.

I'm looking forward to see them available soon on CundCo.

I'm intrigued if they will use the same artwork or will go for a C2 look...

News and Events / Carcassonne 20th Anniversary Tile Bags
« on: August 04, 2021, 08:33:29 AM »
Hi all!

Tired of piling your tiles in a stack? Tired of using the tower? Tired of your old tile bags?

Here you are the new 20th Anniversary tile bag in two sizes (normal and large) available on CundCo without any previous warning...

Here you are an excerpt of the product pages translated from German:

Quote
Product information "Carcassonne Anniversary Cloth Bag"

If you don't want to buy a pig in a poke, you'd better choose our fancy new Carcassonne cloth bag right away (without the pig!). [N.B. The German original text was referring to buying cat in a bag... but the automatic translation used buying a pig in a poke instead, so you were getting the bag without the cat.]

Just put all the tiles in the bag before the game, instead of making many piles of tiles. Pass the bag around to draw a tile from it. No more piles falling over. No more stretching for the tiles. And small color differences in the backs of the tiles no longer matter. An all around clean bag .... Ahhhh...  thing!

The handmade and sturdy cotton bag is now available in two sizes:
* The large bag with the dimensions approx. 350x260 mm. It offers space for about 480-500 plates or 1,100 standard meeples

https://cundco.de/en/accessories/389/carcassonne-jubilaeums-stoffbeutel-gross?c=36

Quote
* The smaller standard bag with the dimensions approx. 270x205 mm. It offers space for about 180-200 plates or 500 standard meeple.

https://cundco.de/en/accessories/388/carcassonne-jubilaeums-stoffbeutel-standard?c=36

PS: Speaking of meeples, I just checked and all transparent and frozen meeples are back in stock in all colors. So it is a good time to complete your collection just in case they were gone for a while before you could do it. Scroll down on the Accessories section and have fun!

News and Events / Carcassonne Central is back!
« on: July 20, 2021, 12:06:30 AM »
Hi all!

After more than a month, we are happy to announce that Carcassonne Central is back!

All the technical issues seem to be solved...

A lot has happened since:

* The 20th Anniversary Edition has been released by several publishers: HiG, MindOK, Devir,... but we are still waiting for some others such as ZMG.

* HiG stopped shipping copies of the 20th Anniversary Edition due to production issues: Some of the beautiful blue boxes were showing some ripples. They returned them back to the producer and announced they will be replacing damaged boxed.

* HiG announced a Paleo v3.0 with updated graphics to be released soon:

https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/en/news/Paleo-V3en.html

* Paleo is getting its first major expansion to be released in October (Spiel 2021 in Essen).

https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/en/news/Paleo-ErweiterungEN.html

* Paleo won the Kennerspiel des Jahres 2021! It was announced just yesterday. So big congrants to HiG on this front too.

https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/news/PaleoKennerspiel21.html (German only for the time being)

So what else can we say, being so happy to have all around again! So welcome back and let's celebrate!

Anything Else / Glasses for color blindness
« on: April 09, 2021, 07:20:47 AM »
Hi guys,

I just came across this article by chance and wanted to share it, especially with those of you with some degree of color blindness.

I don't know if you already heard about the EnChroma glasses. They use a filter to cut out the overlapping light wavelengths that cause poor color discrimination, allowing for a clearer distinction between colors, especially red and green.

We take the 20th anniversary of Carcassonne as an opportunity to make an important change. The Carcassonne backside is a bit outdated and from our side a bit colorless.

That's why we present you the new design today.

Starting with the anniversary edition, all following basic games, expansions and mini-expansions will be produced with the new back from August 2021.

In recent days we got the following clarification from Freddy and Johannes (HiG) on the HiG Discord server.

These clarifications override a number of previous ones from 10/2015 about interactions with halflings and double-sized tiles. These outdated clarifications can be found here:

[Q1] A ringmaster can be placed in a castle. When the castle is completed and scored, does the ringmaster in the castle get ringmaster points for the acrobat spaces and the circus spaces in the vicinity of the castle (4 points in this example if any road was completed)?

[A1] No you do not get the ringmaster points. The rule for the ringmaster says "for expansions the ringmaster counts as a normal meeple".
There is a edge case mentioned for expansion 5 but not for 8. Therefore, no extra points for this meeple.

[Q2] So it considers the ringmaster points only for features in the base game... What about shrines or abbeys, then? Are they excluded? We are considering all monastic buildings (monasteries, abbeys, shrines, German monasteries...) as equivalent features.
We understood this sentence was referring only to the meeple strength... Not that it was not providing ringmaster points in other features.

[A2] No it's referring to everything. Otherwise you will run into problems (like the castle), because there are no 8 tiles surrounding it.  Same thing would apply to German monasteries.

So in this case, this will also affect any monastic buildings (German monasteries, Dutch & Belgian monasteries, Japanese buildings, Darmstadt churches) even if replacing the base game monasteries.

EDIT: Added example image and missing comment.

EDIT 2: There were an additional clarifications about ringmasters a few days later. Please check here in this same thread:
