And I thought I knew a lot about the game... So much to learn!

And thanks farin for this awesome program. I'm using it a little bit to test it, but (and that's absolutely personal) I really prefer the warmth of a IRL game of Carcassone.

Awesome work anyway!

Having said all that, I say good riddance to the 2-point rule. Its elimination was a good thing, as was the change in farm scoring. There are other reasons not to spend your turn on a 4-point city, and if it does happen on occasion it's certainly not the end of the world.

Not to go offtopic, but why is better to use your meeple elsewhere even if not scoring any points yet? I'm genuinely interested in knowing why is better.

For me, and I'm a beginner, it seems better to score these 4 points on and on in the early game to acquire a lead.

It looks like the creative energy for national castles/monasteries/cathedrals has died down quite a bit. After the original German monasteries, the Dutch monasteries came soon after and Devir held a poll about which monasteries to include for Spanish monasteries. At that point, it seemed like the floodgates would open and we'd see a lot of 'national' stuff. But since then, it's been only the German originals except for the Japanese temples.

I got a nice one for Devir's in case they release something: "Sagrada Familia Tile".

It is a cathedral type of tile. When you draw it put it in the regular city placement. You can't finish the city. Ever.  ::)

Did they did something similar before where they "forced" people to buy a Big Box to complete something else?

And regarding the World Records. I would swear I read something in this very same forum. I'm probably way wrong though!

Personally, I've never been forced to buy anything for any game. But HiG do have an irritating habit of releasing special editions of the game with certain exclusive tiles that are very difficult to get hold of elsewhere. And so, if you're someone who *needs* to own *everything* then you end up with multiple copies purely to keep yourself complete... ::)

Maybe it was Paul?

Yes, it could be!

And reading this, I'm getting afraid my wallet will be emptier than it used to :-\

I've read that you have to sink quite a bit of money besides the base game (which I've seen it is really affordable) to really enjoy the full experience of the game.

Is that true? I'm really interested in the game.

PS: Not gonna lie, I've read it on reddit  ;D

I predict we'll see the continued invasion of Southern France with famous German buildings  :(y)

Well they have German Castles, German Cathedrals and German Monasteries so far, so maybe combine all these and release in the new art as Carcassonne: Germany Takes Over.

I've seen that movie, didn't end well for Germany  :-X

That still leaves a number of small expansions that could plausibly be re-released in the new art including Besiegers, Corn Circles I, and Halflings I and/or II. Add to those The Phantom and you would actually have a very nice little Expansion 11 combo pack à la Count, King & Cult (Expansion 6).

I wish!

It is my kids favorite. Without kids, I’d pass on Catapult.

Thanks Amorpheus! I guess it would do it for a party type Cracassone game with friends.

Regarding separate availability of the minis, this is, unfortunately, one of the ongoing issues of Carcassonne fandom - namely that small things often come inside Big Boxes or paired with the base game and are often not made available separately - the River (III) is one example from Big Box 5. Sometimes these things are made available separately online at Cundco (the official shop of the publisher HiG), and sometimes they aren't. This dilemma has resulted, by pure coincidence, in danisthirty owning exactly as many copies of the base game as his age in years (37 in both cases).

Very revealing and sad. At least, very sad for my wallet...  ;D

I have read some posts by danisthirty regarding him shooting for some world records. Pretty sure he is on the good road to achieving them if he hasn't achieved them already!

I will wait until we get the major expansions with the new art and then, if the minis aren't out, I'll think about buying the big box.

Expansion 9 in the new art is expected to be released next year.
I don't think another big expansion will be released, but maybe some of the mini's will be released, that would be nice :)

Nice! That makes all the major expansions, isn't it? Since we will be buying one major expansion a month beginning in January (and Inns & Cathedrals is already part of our collection) this will make it easier to get them all next year.

Probably expansion 7, the catapult?

Regarding this expansion. Is it really worth it? At least for someone who wants a purely strategic Carcassone, not so much a dexterity one.

Well, maybe we'll buy it anyway for the sake of completionism.

Hi guys!

I can't stop thinking about what will be the next thing in line for Carcassone. Do you have any predictions?

I'm pretty confident on them releasing a new major expansion next year. But since I'm quite new here maybe this is the normal order of things and they release 1 major expansion a year.

Anyway, I would also really like an individual release of the minis with the new art style, since currently, these are only obtainable buying the Big Box and I would like to have them neatly organized on those little tuck boxes.

Unofficial Rules / Re: Rules for kids
« on: December 07, 2017, 12:45:37 AM »
I'm really amazed at how fast kids can grasp the rules and enjoy the game. My girlfriend's nephew, who is 6, played a couple and games and besides really liking the game was even correcting us when we missed some incorrect placements or unscored cloisters.

I agree with the loss of strategic perspective when farmers aren't playing but, at this pace, I really think that any kid who likes the game can understand the concept with three or four games played and some good and easy to understand explanation.

But before that, he will have to deal with Abbots and Inns & Cathedrals.  ;D
