Cundco also has a spare parts service.

Good thing I wasn't drinking anything just now, or it would have shot out my nose. Unfortunately Alliance locked down their web site so I can't see stock status like I used to back in the old days, though Carcatronn could check for us. I suspect the original RGG production run might still be in stock? Even if stock is low, I wouldn't expect a good enough sales forecast to justify a second printing.

Scott, could you share the list of river variants?, please

I just looked for it in the downloads section, and it's not there. :(

I also looked on my computer, but can't find it there either. >:(

Maybe somebody with more time on their hands can find something on the old forums?

One of the other reasons behind trying to rally everyone around a common set of rules is to prevent what happened to Monopoly from happening to Carcassonne (most people think that landing on Free Parking = jackpot).

General / Re: HiG playtesting of new expansions - found wanting
« on: April 21, 2014, 10:13:27 PM »
I was thinking about an idea that HiG could describe the mechanics of the new rules without showing the artwork, and we could probably find a few loopholes, but considering the problem with the one tile in Sheep & Hills, there is value is proofing the artwork also.

Many games on Kickstarter allow the whole world to proofread the rules and check the artwork before anything goes to print.

Scott - what expansions are you playing with, for games like this?

We are finding that farms seldom get too large for us.  It seems like the number of roads has drastically increased, so the play space is broken up a lot.

Also, any farmer anywhere close to the edge of the board is a prime target for a tower capture.

We played River, GQ11, I&C, T&B, and King. We tried P&D, Count, and Tower once each, but none of them were well-received. Never got a chance to play any other expansions because the group folded as people moved on with their lives. (GQ11 sometimes helps keep farms under control.)

As someone who has everything, I'm equally confused as how to best handle this.

I took a look at the wiki page, and the first thought I had was to separate the Spielbox expansions, which I've now done.

I wonder if we also need to separate promos, such as School, Windroses, and German Monasteries.

Speaking of Windroses, Spielbox released their own version, which makes me think it should be listed twice.

The GQ11 expansion seems out of place amongst the others. We could possibly add another RGG-exclusive section and list it there along with CS&C? (which is currently in the compilations section).

I feel like the "Special Editions" section needs to be redone as a cross-reference table showing which expansions are included with each special edition.

I think it's time to remove CK&C from the compilations section. If we also create an RGG-exclusive section as suggested two paragraphs up, the Finland thing could go to the Special Editions section and the compilations section could disappear.

South Seas and the Friday expansion appear to be completely absent from the wiki page. They should probably form the start of an "Around the World" sub-section (under Other Games?), since there will be more standalone games in that series.

In my mind, Wheel of Fortune is like the River, the Festival, and the Besiegers: you (normally) have to buy a complete copy of the game to get it. I think we should remove it from the "Other Games" section since it's not a different game from Carcassonne. If we're going to list it twice, let the second listing be in the Special Editions section?

I'll play with as many expansions as I can get away with including. For me this requires playing several games with the same group of people. I introduce people to one expansion at a time so that they are not overwhelmed.

RGG never released the compilation expansion #6; they sold each expansion individually. The RGG version of Cult was part of Cult, Siege & Creativity and included an extra cult tile.

I agree with Carcking that the footnote and rule should be consistent, but I also agree with rfielder that the intent is to have the mage and witch move to different features, not different tiles of the same feature. I'll inform Kettlefish so that she can ask HiG.

Official Rules / Re: Wind Roses and The River/River II

Although the rules for the Wind Roses doesn't explicitly state that the Wind Rose starting tile should be placed at the center of the table, it does say that the Wind Rose starting tile replaces the original starting tile, and the base game rules state that the starting tile goes in the middle of the table, so by extension the Wind Rose starting tile is supposed to go in the middle of the table.

The rules for the River expansions state that the spring tile goes in the middle of the table. The spring tiles from River and River 2 are identical; there is also a spring with road tile in the GQ11 expansion. Either configuration can be placed adjacent to the Wind Rose starting tile; only the eastern direction becomes invalid due to the city. If playing with the River 2 according to the official rules, the fork tile comes next. I think where you're running into trouble is the situation where you've placed the spring such that it flows east towards the city or west towards the road. I would strongly advise orienting the spring tile such that it flows north or south, away from the Wind Rose starting tile. This would place the fork two tiles away from the Wind Rose starting tile, with no danger of conflict.

A few years back we were discussing how to combine the river with the Count expansion. Either the city of Carcassonne could be placed in the center of the table, with the river flowing away from it, or the river could be placed first and the city of Carcassonne placed afterwards in any position that it could fit. The rules for the Count are less definite about the city of Carcassonne being in the center of the table; the city doesn't explicitly replace the starting tile, it merely serves as the starting point for the game and the starting tile is not used. Some people like to throw the original starting tile into the bag with the other tiles.

Also a few years back, I compiled a list of river variants. In one of them, I had the fork tile as the starting tile, so you could build on all three branches simultaneously; this would probably lead to problems if the fork was adjacent to the Wind Rose starting tile. In another variant, the fork tile is put into the bag with the other river tiles and could be drawn at any time; this may enable you to flow the river east past the city or west past the road without conflict. Same effect can be obtained by playing River first, then fork, then River 2, if playing with both river expansions. I personally like to put the fork in the bag to help randomize the river configuration, especially if you play with the same people regularly.

I get the impression that a clarifying footnote is needed.

In my mind the fourth sentence would be better worded as follows:

"If the Mage or and the Witch is are already on a land tiles, the player must move one to a different tile."

I agree with this; in fact, I insist on it for English grammatical purposes.

Official Rules / Re: The Ferries - Question
« on: April 12, 2014, 10:33:40 AM »
There seems to be an agreement in the rules that you only place a ferry when you place a thief on the road. If no thief is placed initially, placing one later obligates placement of the ferry, so there should be no problem. Doesn't hurt to place a ferry immediately though.
