Title: How much extra would you pay for something still in shrink wrap?
Post by: unclewill on July 25, 2021, 08:54:09 AM
For those completionists prepared to dig deep into their pockets...  ;)

??? BigBox 5 is not even the that hard to find. Hardly a rare piece.
Is that price supposed to be over 12 million eur?

Yes, the price states that.
However the description says to make a (realistic) offer through a DM.
So they want to keep the price a bit hidden, so they can try and find someone who aims a bit high with their offer.

There are some things I've bought where I have paid more because it was still in shrink-wrap. However, it can become tricky to find these.
For most things I collect now, I would prefer sealed (as I won't play with it), but if I find it used I'll still go for it. Sometimes it's a lucky find though.
Depending on the item I can be moved to pay a bit more, however I wouldn't overpay massively just for the sealed status

Thanks for the tip Willem, be careful if you buy me something sealed, knowing you won't open it, i might fill empty boxes with stones and seal the box at a friend's warehouse  >:D

Since I'm playing with everything I buy, I won't pay more for a sealed item, but I might ask for some closeup pictures to be sure everything's in good shape before buying  :yellow-meeple:

Ooh that's devious!

I have been buying to play rather than complete a collection.

'Still in shrink' suggests the items are in good condition which is desirable. I feel slight misgivings about 'unshrinking' something if that status is of interest to someone else. All these C1 items are available in finite numbers, with a significantly smaller number still shrink wrapped.

So with that in mind, I wouldn't pay more for shrink wrapped unless it was something I was struggling to find otherwise, and ideally would get a good item that was open and ready to play!

Please post this type of thing in the market place.

I'm never a fan of helping taut the wares of these types of seller on the forum.

If you've ever taken goods to a CashConverters, they always open the box up to check that everything's inside.

What's the point of having an unopened copy of a first edition, to find out it's missing the score track, or the meeple :D

It's an interesting point you make. I had interpreted it that the eye catching price was just to draw your attention and differentiate from other listings. But you are right, by not putting a realistic price forward the viewer is also not anchored to a price range and might go in higher than they otherwise would. Thanks for the tip.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to do so. The silly price got me thinking, that is all.

On a related note, I have a nice copy of Big Box 5, opened, that I am willing to let go for a very reasonable 6,000,000 euros to the first lucky person to PM me. ::)

Same here. I do not seak to have an extra copy of everything still in shrink, but I do want to have it in new condition. Still in shrink usually means it almost certainly will be in the superb consition I want.
But if I were presented with punched out tiles that look brand new and a more expensive shrink-wrapped unpunched sheet, I would not go for the sheet.

So new condition: Yes
Shrink wrap: Not necessarily

(But if I happen to acquire an extra shrink-wrapped copy I do not complain)
