City of Carcassone - one big tile
« on: February 15, 2015, 01:53:38 AM »

I'd say with the recent release of the Halflings, tiles that are double wide is the next obvious step. Maybe someday they'll finally release a copy of The Count as one tile. I've been hoping for that for years.

Actually it does exist!
Here's the proof:

Wow! That looks legit. I wonder where it came from...? I'd definitely prefer that to the build-a-City version.

Back of the tile, numbers are gone:

So we now have proof that a single-tile version can be done. Is the tile the same thickness? Is it warped at all? The latter is a slight issue with the mega Wheel of Fortune start tile, though I have to admit the warping is only very slight. I want Hans im Glück to release this.

I do love how the combo box this came with included the wrong watermarks on the River II and the Cult. Very Russian, I have to say. Top quality, but they got a few things off. With the City, though, they got spot on.

I would not consider the River watermarks to be "wrong", they are just their own approach, designing a watermark by themselves, where no fitting watermark exists. River II was either without any watermark or with the crown from "King, Count and Robber", which did not really fit to the expansion.

As for the Cult tiles: they had been released in a "HiG Almanach" by Spielbox, hadn't they been watermarked like that there? I think, somebody at the Russian distribution company might have taken the pentagon for a pentagram and finding it thematically fitting, but that's just a wild guess.

Is there a site where you could order the Russian set from for 15 euros?

Hobby Games, the Russian distributor, is selling this expansion for 1190 rubles (about €16.50) at this page. I have no idea if they ship outside Russia, but perhaps MrNumbers could help out.

Here is their entire Carcassonne collection, based on entering the term каркассон into the search field. I noticed that they have another box that includes Inns and Cathedrals, Traders and Builders, Abbey and Mayor, and King for 890 rubles (about €12.40) without the base game, or 1490 rubles (about €20.75) with the base game.

Yes, they can ship worldwide. In this case you can pay using PayPal, but shipping will be painful: 1kg to the most EU countries costs 1785 RUB (~24.89 EUR).

Cost aside, just clicked on the Union Flag translation button on the site and the following disappointing message appeared:

Dear customers. Unfortunately due changes in Russian Customs Law right now we have lost possibility to send parcels abroad. Right now we are in search of new ways or partners to solve this problem, but we don't know how long will it take

Welcome to the forums bloggins, and thanks for the update!  :(y)

@Jere – is this where you ordered your set from and did you have any trouble with international shipping?

Jere said in another thread that his girlfriend brought this version to him from Russia.

He also said in the same post that he French-kissed the postman!  :-* C:-)

Absolutely! and I kept both the package and the post(wo)man. :)

Seriously I plan to travel to Moscow later this year but can't promise I will have room in my suitcase, if anyone is interested.
