Thanks for the info, Dirk. I just made a pledge for the royal edition. I was intrigued by the colossal edition too, but I just don't have room for that in my house, especially since I anticipate I'll usually only play the regular edition.

I was excited for The Castles of Mad King Ludwig Collector's Edition since Bezier did such a good job with Suburbia. But once I actually saw the game, I was completely underwhelmed and the shipping cost to New Zealand basically clenched it for me. I stopped following the campaign after one day of contemplation. I am, however, backing Darwin's Journey, which looks amazing and is decidedly not underwhelming. I also am following Tinners' Trail, although I need to do a bit more research on that before I make a decision.

I 100% agree that they insulted New Zealand with the cost of shipping and I don't know why. Aside from that, why are you underwhelmed? I like the new art.

I've never played the game before and looking through everything, it just isn't what I expected. And the miniatures don't look a think like actual parts of Ludwig's castles. And the whole them just feels...tacky? I don't know. I just was expecting more for such a big box. The Suburbia Collector's Edition is just absolutely filled to the brim but this seems like there's going to be a lot of empty space and visually, it just doesn't look that good on the table in the examples and previews. And don't even get me started about the ridiculousness of the Colossal Edition. That's just silly. Just make it a new edition that's 4x larger and be done with it. Give the moats hinges so they can fit inside. Having it be an add-on is just dumb and I can't believe so many people are backing it. It was a similar level of ridiculousness as the 18 (or whatever the number was) cities version of Suburbia Collector's Edition. Cool concept, but just unnecessary.

Having a colossal edition with moats and without is really silly. They are offering 2 different sized colossal boxes just for that. From what I gather, that expansion isn't worth all of that effort logistically.

I have a pretty big game table and I don't think 3 players and the score board would comfortably fit the colossal edition. I may get the cheapest version. I never much really cared for metal coins and slightly better pawns.

Am I right in saying that the colossal edition doesn't have everything from the collector's edition? The page seems mostly incoherent, why would colossal + standard as a pledge, before just colossal, for those players that want a big copy?

Yes, that's right, the colossal set doesn't include the tokens and miniatures. There are a number of backers who have complained about this. They just want the colossal set and not the normal set, but it looks like Bezier Games doesn't want to do that because the logistics of managing all these different sets (Colossal set with token, set without tokens, set with moats with tokens, set with moats without tokens etc. ) would be much more difficult to do.

Interesting. Thanks for confirming for me, thought I was missing something. I suspect a lot of people with big tables are going to be annoyed with having to buy the small version too.

For anyone interested, there's one day left in the Kickstarter for Castles of Mad King Ludwig Collector's Edition. They've reached all their goals (over a million pledged and over 10,000 backers), so there'll be lots of components included.

Decided to give this one a miss. It does look great, but as I've not played it, I held back. I've not even played the mobile app I picked up some time ago. A lot of people like it, so I'm sure it'll be great!
