General / favourite modular combinations
« on: November 09, 2020, 08:19:32 AM »
My list of favorites include the following in order:

-Portal tiles (P&Drag)
-Builders (T&B)
-Big Meeple (I&C)
-Inn tiles (I&C)
-Abbeys (A&M)

Years ago, I made a deck of randomizer cards to select modular components at random for games of Carc. Never really used it much (my wife only will play if we use T&B and nothing else), but it was fun to work on.

My 2020 Spiele gets its first play together with base, start tile and Inns & Cathedrals.

The Spiel tile belongs in a bigger city. That city could only fit about 1,000 attendees by the looks of it ;)

Good suggestion and thanks for the well wishes. Anyone on here live in or near Charlotte NC by any chance, and would also want to get these maps?

Has anyone in the US figured out a reasonable way (cost) to get the Carcassonne maps shipped here? I still don’t have any of them, and now there are US maps I’d love to get. But shipping of 40+ euros for posters is too much to pay for it.

This made me wonder if the Carc 20th anniversary edition will include meeples with COVID masks ;)

Message sent. I’ve got at least the v1.1 of Breweries.

We just finished our Charterstone campaign during the shut-in. I thoroughly enjoyed it, since there is a multitude of options each turn and no forced direction of what to do next. My wife didn’t like it for that same reason. I’ve gotta somehow convince her now to play through a 2nd campaign of it.

That's sad. Maybe a stupid question, but will we still be able to play local games vs AI opponents after the servers go down?
I think that would still work without the servers, as long as you don’t delete the app. Once deleted, it will be gone forever.

Terrible new DaFees. The Coding Monkeys rendition of Carcassonne has been my all-time favorite iOS app. I’ve seen the Asmodee version and it seems to follow Carc II styling, and as a Carc I guy, l’ll be sad to make that switch. Only digitally though; still holding out on Carc II printings.

Thanks for posting about the English rules. I looked into US shipping again for the 5 maps, and it’s still at €43. I was hoping they could all be rolled in one tube for a more reasonable shipping price. Shouldn’t cost €13 more to ship 5 instead of 4 maps.

Just checked cundco.de. Shipping 4 maps to the US is €30, but adding the fifth one takes shipping to €42. I could then add several other items (like tollkeepers, map chips, etc) which did not change the shipping price above €42.

So it seems to me the shipping rate for the maps is based on the order € size. Five maps rolled in one tube may cost a bit more but shouldn’t cost €12 more to ship than 4 maps.

Am I missing something here?

I agree. Would really like to get this but the shipping to the US makes it too expensive. If it was group shipped with 5 in total it may end up cheap enough (for each) but then the other 4 would have to be sent on with an additional shipping cost.

You're right, he love his games but also his family. And I'm trying to help him with my facebook gaming page.

That’s great! My French is a bit lacking but glad to see the support for Conor.

Nice delivery today, Hanamikoji and Shadows in Kyoto, Gorus Maximus and a one year late one, Out of the Wood.  :black1-meeple:

I’ve gotten to know the designer for Gorus Maximus (Conor McGoey) over the last few years at Gen Con. Great guy with a ton of passion and desire to make his products of the highest possible quality. I’m sure you can see that Dragonlord in just the box thickness alone, which undoubtedly cost him more for shipping.

For those who haven’t, definitely check out his first game, Summit. Good mix of tile-laying and player interaction, which a few people on this forum may be into ;).
