Hi, everyone!

Thought I share a challenge I tried few days ago. This requires a lot of expansions but I managed to come quite far using only the most common releases.

-The idea is to start with the castle (The 12x tiles from The Count) and build outwards.

-Building around the castle needs 18 tiles. However, each expansion(s) you choose to use needs to be a total of 18 tiles and all must of course be used and have legal placements as a real game (road-road, city-city etc).
You can use The Tower for example, has 18 tiles, or use Abbey and Mayor + Windrosen totaling 18 tiles as well. Princess and the Dragon is 30 tiles and thus cannot be used (yet).

-Next step is to build around the previous finished area, this time it requires 26 tiles using any combination of expansions. Three minis makes 24 so that won't work well, unless you have the School!

-Continue building around using the method above and see how far you can make it! Post images here if able to. I managed to build 4 times around the castle and the image will be revealed in September!

Good luck! Looking forward to see the results.

The Marketplace / WTB Inqury for huge amount of Carcassonne tiles
« on: August 16, 2014, 01:16:17 AM »
I've been looking at options to increase my tile count and so far, a local shop has been the cheapest. Sounds all good, but why stop there?
There's been a lot of searching online, whether it's domestic online shops or foreign, but ultimately it all ends up even or non-marginal, compared to the local shop.

Thought I ask here for help if anyone knows someone or can themselves depart with a large amount of tiles. The amount I'm talking about is 100-9000 tiles (wanted). I prefer new and unused but nearmint and or better quality of used tiles can be an option.

It does not matter whether basic tiles or expansions, but if it is an expansion with tokens (not meeples) I want the tokens as well. I.e. Trader's tokens if the tiles is from Trader's and Builders but no need for the sixth colours meeples.

Shipping will be to Sweden.

I've been in contact with carcassonneshoppe.com which has a tile batch offer amongst some other good stuff. I might order some loose ends epansions from there for sure!
The loose tiles, however, after shipping cost and custom tax ends up as much as the local store where I can buy full sets.

UPDATE:
- Max price for each tile I prefer to be 0.25 Euro including shipping. Can be discussed if quantity above 150 tiles.
- Basic tiles or an expansion tile that has no features like Trader's, Dragon, Tower etc is also preferred.
- Tiles with, for example an Inn / Lake is OK.

Regards,

General / Random board generator script [completed]
« on: August 01, 2014, 04:42:01 PM »
Thought I upload one of my projects tonight.

This is the random board generator script.
Enter the column and row sizes and click the blue area image and watch the randomly drawn board generated.

Each tile connects to it's adjacent tiles properly (road to road, city to city etc).

Enjoy!

http://sydby.com/carcassonne/10k/index.html
Feel free to use or modify the script, just mention Yellow at carcassonnecentral.com or Paul at sydby.com. Thank you.

Be warned! Large column/row size can cause a delay before the board appears.

General / Unique Carcassonne merchandise found in a Swedish store.
« on: August 01, 2014, 01:19:47 AM »
I checked with Google, boardgamegeek.com and here at cc.com and nothing about this:

http://alphaspel.se/shop/ovriga-tillbehor/44611-dice-tower-carcassonne-meeple.html

Although it's a Swedish store, the description is in English. It appears to be a wooden set that can be assembled, much like the Tower. Unsure exactly what it does, though.

You start at the bottomright cloister and finish at the shrine in the center.
A road continues through the junctions.

Good luck!  :meeple:

Other Games / Puerto Rico played
« on: June 15, 2014, 12:51:32 PM »
Today, Sunday, after our soccer game we sat down for two rounds of Puerto Rico.

The first game we (6 players, 5 teams with one having 2 members) were playing in the wild, reading rules as we went along. A lot of mistakes were made but it was a great way for all of us to learn the game, rather than we sit down and just read the rules.

I won this first match because of a devious play on my part. I had 15 Victory points and thus in the lead. What I did was exhausting the colonists pile so the game would end and after counting the final score, I won!

Second game turn out to be a disaster (for me). I think the game has a flaw:
I was stuck with Indigo supplies (3x) while another player had 7x of them. Each two rounds he could gain supply, use the Captain and score points and I got no supply at all and thus never was able to score, trade or stack them.

Looking at other options, which is nice to have, like colonists on the purple cards, this was not really balanced. For each two rounds they scored 7 Victory points, I had to spend 6 rounds and not being able to get anything.

Latter half of the game looked like this:
The other players got every round between 4-10 Victory points.
I got 0 (zero).

Because of zero Victory points and supplies, all I could do was to try get Prospecting and money to buy things I could never use.
Sure, it would have been my turn eventually to be the Governor but by that time it was already too late (game ended before). A total of 5 rounds I sat there unable to do anything.

Despite all of this, it was a fun game and we will surely play it again nearfuture, which by that time I have read the rules properly on my own and looked at some good strategy by other players online.  >:D

Next week, it's Carcassonne time again if we have the time after we play Small World!

Official Rules / CAR v7.0 River II question
« on: June 09, 2014, 11:21:51 PM »
Reading all the rules for River II in zie CAR v7.0 it is still unclear just how it works under Preparations.

It says: The spring tile is placed in the middle of the table. The youngest player then places the fork. Then each player takes turns placing a tile...

The fork part,

1. Does a follower be allowed by 'the youngest player' to be placed on it
2. Or spring and fork tiles are placed and then players takes turn drawing and placing a river tile followed by optional follower to be placed on it.

It's quite confusing. We play option 2. above but still would like some clarification.

General / Carcassonne E-mail game test 1
« on: June 09, 2014, 04:40:49 PM »
This first game will be me facing danisthirty.
Future games will be set up as me being the host for others (two or more players).

Basically I have a script that randomize the tile order and then I will send an E-mail to the players showing them their tile. Afterwards they look at the current board (link below for a preview) and decide where to place it.
I think I got a good way to manage how to place the tile and where to put any follower or other tokens.

A tile placing reply mail can look like this:

---
Coords: 5,-3 (from starter tile at 0,0 this will be the 5th to the right and 3rd up)
Rotation: 2 (tile rotated 90 degree clockwise; 1 = no rotation, 2 = 90 clockwise, 3 = 180 degree and 4 = 90 counter clockwise)
Token: standard east city (a normal follower placed on a city segment that extends to the right, after tile's been rotated)

Other examples for tokens (i.e. followers, large followers, builder, knight, pig etc.) can be:

standard cloister (a normal follower on the cloister)
pig south (a pig placed on a farm that continues downwards from the tile placed)
farms usually have several directions and will use a similar compass direction names.
east-south is a farm extending right and below a (road) segment
south-east is a farm extending downward on the right side of a (road) segment

This game and future games if this sparks an interest, will be posted here:
http://sydby.com/carcassonne/tournament/

And last but certainly not least, if you guys have any ideas on improvements, post here and let me know!
Bear in mind the game is delibaretly set to be manually driven to give that flavor of a real game, not to mention to hide tile placement options which usually exist in the digital versions.

General / Carcassonne Diary started May 21, 2014
« on: May 21, 2014, 03:26:00 PM »
Yesterday I started my online Carcassonne Diary!

Log file: http://www.sydby.com/carcassonne/diary/index.htm
EDIT: Removed a link to an obsolete page

Each day, I will randomly draw a tile and add it to the online board which is held on my server. Thought it would be interesting to see it developing slowly. This is just a basic thing at the moment but I hope to add more fun stuff to make it more lively. Updates will be posted on this thread.

1. The draw pile is randomly pre-generated via php script using the real tile set from (at the moment only) the base game.
2. When the pile is emptied, a new tile heap will be randomly generated adding to the already existing board.
3. You can point on any tile on the board for a popup description to find out for example which day this tile was placed.

Future plans:
1. Adding expansions. The idea here is, whenever a draw pile become empty a new pile will be randomly generated with the expansion(s). For example: If I add Traders and Builders, it will be in the new draw pile when the old pile is emptied.

Feel free to comment your thoughts and ideas!

The link below with the video on that site should let your ideas go wild.  ;D

Some drawbacks still are the thick black edges and probably the price tag.

General / Carcassonne tiles made out of lasercut plywood
« on: May 03, 2014, 11:43:11 PM »
Found a site that sells tiles matching the original game that looks really nice. The price is almost the same as for a base game with the river (in Sweden).

Thought be fun to share this.  :meeple:

If a city with a Witch is completed, do the Castles nearby get the same points or does it score as if it was no Witch in it?
Or, if I interpret the full score mentioned in CAR 6.4, as both gets no Witch penalty?

CAR 6.4: The occupier of the structure and the occupier of the castle both receive the full score for the structure. Then the follower from the castle is returned to the player
