Hi everyone,

I thought this was a fan expansion (similar to the Ukraine map (https://boardgamegeek.com/image/6346426/carcassonne) posted some days ago in BGG), but today I saw on the Facebook page of Swan Panasia (Carcassonne producer in Asia) this photo:

Hey everyone!
The legendary #Carcassonne 20th Anniversary Edition is now available for pre-order!
And Swan Panasia, our favorite Neuschwanstein board game in Taiwan, has also made a great effort to produce the #Taiwan map expansion that will not be sold alone!
In 2019, a set of 5 map expansions of European countries, including Germany, France, UK, Benelux, and Iberian Peninsula, were released for the first time in the exhibition, and 2 map expansions of the US (US East and US West) were released in 2020.
This year, at the request of New Swansea, we have created a map expansion of Taiwan to reward the fans of "Carcassonne" in Taiwan.
The expansion is basically a poster paper (594x841mm).
You will need to use the basic version of Carcassonne and any of the Carcassonne expansions to play!
The Chinese rules will be presented as an online pdf via the QRcode (same as the original publisher) in the lower right corner of the map.
The map + commemorative edition will be available for pre-order on 9/3 (Fri).
The font and characters are still being adjusted, and the main focus will be on the product images announced on the official website when officially released.

Let's see if Swan Panasia is just translating the basic Carcassonne Maps rules into Chinese or they have a Map Chips expansion for it. So far, the map of Taiwan doesn't seem to show any special symbols for them.

Island squares with coats of arms
You can only place tiles on island squares if they have been connected with a ferry route from the mainland (see general rules here). If you place a tile on a square with a coat of arms, you'll score 2 points for each coat of arms immediately.
I also included this info in the general rules of Carcassonne Maps. Same case for the Waves on the Benelux map.

Swan Panasia will have an issue with the base rules for Carcassonne Maps if they want to translate them as is. They don't explain island squares with coats of arms although they explain ferry connections.
Island squares were explained in the Map Chip rules for the Iberian Peninsula...
The Carcassone Maps rules are a bit of a mess. You have the same issue with Waves for the Benelux map or the set up of the US maps...
I had to rearrange some of the info so it would make sense for players just playing with just the maps... :o

They translated the latest Carcassonne Maps general rules into Chinese. The Taiwan map uses the same Map-Chip rules as Germany (majority votes promotion placing Map Chips under a meeple). This sounds okay, but they failed to explain how to score island squares with coats of arms, only explained in the Iberian Peninsula Map rules instead of in the general rules.

A gift from Germany-Taiwan map expansion
In 2019, Hans im Glück released a set of five European countries map expansions in the exhibition for the first time, including Germany, France, Benelux, British Isles, and Iberian Peninsula; in 2020, two more American map expansions were issued ( US East, US West).
In this important year of 2021, at the sincere invitation of the Neuschwanstein board game, the publishing house prepared a special gift for Taiwanese fans-"Carcassonne Taiwan Map Expansion", to give back to local fans for their 20 years of enthusiastic support.
How could such a good thing fall from the sky?
In fact, Moritz, the CEO of Hans im Glück, has traveled to Taiwan several times. He visited some board game shops, climbed Xiangshan to see 101, and visited Ningxia Night Market. He was very impressed with Taiwan. This is why we became the third one. Jump on the darling of the map expansion of Carcassonne? It may also be because the first Chinese version of the board game that Neuschwanstein represented 20 years ago was "Carcassonne". Now that the swan’s wish comes true? I just sent an email to Swan Panasia asking about batch orders to Europe, Spain included. So far, it seems you can pre-order the 20th Anniversary Edition + Carcassonne Maps Taiwan for local shipping (Taiwan and Malaysia), so I contacted them to see how to arrange orders shipped abroad.
If you are interested, it will be three of us in Spain for the time being, including you, DrMeeple and myself.

Maybe wrote to Swan to update this issue. Thay have sources for that rules, it will be easy to add this there.

Nope. They only accept addresses from Taiwan and Malaysia. A message on there website says they are working on an English version targetted at international customers. All overseas orders have to be requested by email (their contact form) for the time being.
They also mention some distributors abroad, such as Similing Monster, but if you check their website, you will only find sleeves for Carcassonne from Swan Panasia (back in stock Sep 21st or so ;D), and no other Carcassonne-related products.

Swan Panasia just replied to my second message. They are asking for the specifics about for shipping address and a contact phone number. The shipping would start on September 16th, when the Maps seem to be finally available.

They fit perfectly.
On the picture from the like below there"s sleeved and unsleeved tiles. Now I play with sleeved tiles only and they fit even better on the map. Unsleeved tiles are smaller than the map cases :yellow-meeple:

That's an unknown issue of the auto translation. The original FB post basically says it's only available in Taiwan. They used the more "complete" term, 台澎金馬, so that it is clear the adjacent islands are included, not just the main island.

At the beginning of this week I asked again for two sample quotations to have a hint on how shipping costs to Europe behave:
* One with 6 maps
* Another with 16 maps (figure that I will have to update again)
Don't want to try many options in parallel since several of my messages haven't been answered so I'm keeping one thread alive.
Last night, after several exchanges during this week, the Swan Panasia rep told me the quotations will take a few more days since they haven't solved the details for the shipping:
Because the size and weight of the outer box have not been determined yet, please wait a few days.
Please forgive the inconvenience caused.
Depending on their answer, we will have to determine how many shipments we should arrange.
I suspect that shipping to Europe and then on to Singapore or the US may not be very efficient cost-wise (shipping costs, customs fees, import taxes and VAT). So I was thinking on arranging:
* One shipping to Singapore (the closest destination)
* One shipping to US West Coast (the closest coast to Taiwan)
* One shipping to Europe
I would resend each lot to one sender per country if agreed and they you may arrange the domestic distribution in person or other means.
Revisiting the specs for the Taiwan map I noticed this:
Specification: 594x841mm
0.300 lbs. German imported super white super snow copper + bright film embossing with storage paper cylinder (φ80×650mm) + 2 pieces of plastic cover
So I understand they are trying to send the storage cylinders with one map each inside a large box. :o If the shipping costs go sky high, I was thinking of suggesting them to ship all the maps rolled up together in one single box, so costs would go down dramatically (less weight, smaller box). Then I would need to get some cardboard storage cylinders here in Spain and use them for shipping.
Let's see next answer from the Swan Panasia rep.
@Willem: Don't know if you checked Swan Panasia's web site. If you want to order extra stuff they will arrange two separate shipments: one for the maps and one for the rest of the stuff I presume from this note on the promo page regarding the 20th Anniversary Edition + Taiwan map bundle:
Carcassonne 20th Anniversary Edition" and "Taiwan Map Expansion" will be divided into two pieces and sent at the same time. The map will be rolled into a bundle and placed in a paper tube (with a lid) for delivery. When receiving, please pay attention to whether both items have arrived. After receiving one of them, if you do not receive the other within three days, please go to the FB private message editor.
Don't know what this may represent regarding costs...
@Bumsakalaka It may be a coincidence but after reporting earlier this week the missing info in the rules about placing tiles on island squares with coats of arms, Swan Panasia has uploaded a new version of the rules covering this matter. Of course it is not in the section with basis rules but it is part of the Map Chip rules... as HiG did in the Iberian Paninsula rules. :o

We should be closing the final figures soon, so we can provide Swan Panasia a final order. Otherwise, the order and shipping costs will be a moving target and they may decide to ignore our request altogether.
Let me know if the requests from Czech Republic and Slovakia should be sent to one destination only. Otherwise I will consider two separate destinations within Europe.
I understand this is an extra effort for them. If they are working on shipping the maps with storage cylinders, getting the right box to put everything is not that straight forward...
I would like to reply to their first quotation with the final order size and the no-storage-cylinder option.

So not necessarily the German, Dutch, french, English, etc copies that say "Carcassonne", but copies like the Russian, Japanese or Bulgarian base games. Or the ones from Swan Panasia ;D

That's a fake, that you can find on places like AliExpress. Chinese lettering, with the 999 logo. I believe from other pictures that the catapult is smaller than normal, and the tile quality will probably be rubbish ;)

We just got our first quotation for the Europe lot:
Hi Hector,
Because of the preorder stuffs and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, we were busy for a few weeks, sorry for late reply.
About the order, we will as your request, put some maps inside the storage bin and some maps around it to let the package smaller, 30x maps$15000 + carsassonne 3 games set$1490 + carcassonne 2.0$1160(all Chinese Language Edition), total include postage would be NTD$21,470.
I prepared an estimate of the costs (see attached XLS file) including shipping and customs duties to send the order to Spain. After this, we would need to add costs to send them to each country (UK requires additional Customs Duties). I will need to get extra cardboard storing tubes to ship the maps.
So the cost for now in EUR is as follows:
- Willem: 146,36 EUR (Map + C1 bundle + C2 base game)
- Others: 23,23 EUR / Map
I would need the following info by PM to proceed with other quotations:

Located in WI so doesn't look like I'm near neighbors with any of the other USA folks so would need to pay for domestic shipping after the bundle arrives here. I was expecting a charge of around 660€ on my VISA (close to the estimation plus some currency exchange rate fluctuation) but they charged €689.62... That is €30.28 more than the initial estimate.

Hmm I was last time in Barcelona in 2019 just for one day. It was our end of journey fron Girona - Andorra - French Pyrenees - Carcassonne - Tossa del Mar - Barcelona. In Barcelona just visited Sagrada Familia and check changes after 20 years from last visit (I guess I preffer previous "gray/sandy color" version) and than wanted to find another parking place, everything including payment parking was full. So we make car traveling arround city, visit Olympic Stadium, Port, La Rambla and of course Airport of Barcelona as final sightseeing car-trip :D

I have some news for you:
* Order for members in Europe: Order sent yesterday.
We've sent the order #3 on 10/5.
The normal delivery time is about 14-18 working day(not include customs clearance outgoing and incoming), due to the Covid-19, the delivery time would be delay, so we cannot confirm the exact delivery date.
* Order for members in the USA: Quotation received for 14 maps.
14x maps$7,000, total include postage would be NTD$8340.
This represents $298,71 in total or $21,34 per map not including Customs Duties or domestic shipping. Bear in mind we were changed around €30 for the currency conversion, so this may also happen here to a certain degree.

I have some news for you:
* Order for members in Europe: Order sent yesterday.
We've sent the order #3 on 10/5.
The normal delivery time is about 14-18 working day(not include customs clearance outgoing and incoming), due to the Covid-19, the delivery time would be delay, so we cannot confirm the exact delivery date.
* Order for members in the USA: Quotation received for 14 maps.
14x maps$7,000, total include postage would be NTD$8340.
This represents $298,71 in total or $21,34 per map not including Customs Duties or domestic shipping. Bear in mind we were changed around €30 for the currency conversion, so this may also happen here to a certain degree.

Bear in mind, the Europe group was charged around €30 for the currency conversion, so we will take this into account ahead of time. For €30/15 maps is €2 per map. Given the current conversation rate from Google of 0.86 €/$, then that's an extra $2.32 per map. So, that would be $21.91 + $2.32 = $24.32 that I want to receive from people via PayPal, VenMo, or possibly other means. If people choose to pay via PayPal, you've got absorb the fee if you want the assurance of insurance for paying for a good rather than friends and family. I must receive $24.32 per map after whatever associated costs there are. PM me, and I can give you payment addresses.
The second payment will have two, possibly three, parts. If I have to pay some customs and duties, then I will pass those along and will need to be reimbursed.. Second, I have to ship to you, so that's to be worked out. I usually do USPS first class, but if people want something different, then we can work that out too. Finally, if I have to pay for any containers, then that may be a third component. No tip requested or required.
My ballpark is no more than $45-$50 all in per map. Hopefully less. That being said, I am just looking to cover my out of pocket expenses. My time and effort is a labor of love to community to increase all of our enjoyment.

Hi fellow forum members in Europe!
I just received the order today. I was expecting a painstaking process to get the order through Customs but, guess what!, it was delivered straight to my home, no paperwork no nothing, and I only had to pay 6.59€ in cash to the postman as Customs Duties. I checked the tracking page and the package was tagged as NON-DUTIABLE. (Whaaaaaaaat?)
This means the money I had collected including the Customs Duties estimation will help pay the additional boxes/cylinders and the delivery to your countries. Now I have to pass quickly to phase two. This was totally unexpected! ;D
So far, we had a bank extra cost for €30.55 and Customs Duties for €6.59. This means we saved €154.13 in Customs Duties and VAT. So I have €93,32 left for the delivery of the maps to your countries that where originally meant to pay for the aforementioned taxes. I send the maps and stuff by registered mail. At that point, I will recalculate everything and prepare a balance for each of you.
I would need the full address of the following people to send the corresponding part of the order (please, PM them to me):

I calculated the distribution based on the total difference, not distributing the shipping and packaging costs. This was mistake since the amounts remaining from Slovakia and Czech Republic were not proportional to the number of maps they ordered. Thanks Bumsakalaka for letting me know. :o
So, in the end, I also owed Bumsakala €2.72 but Bumsakalaka will take care of that difference when sending the maps to DIN0.

Update for the UK distribution:
I got the tubes in to send the maps on to Cidervampire and PurpleMeeple!
They are smaller than I thought, so I had to roll the maps up very tight, but it fits!
I'll be going to the post office later to send them out!

Those of us in the USA owe Meepledrone a big thank you. I was trying to do the polite thing and not pressure Swan Panasia, but that was clearly misplaced. I bought the stuff on October 20, but apparently buying something and sending money isn't enough to prompt their shipping department to pack and send stuff. So, it looks like Meepledrone was correct to push a bit, and hopefully we'll get some movement soon.
I do want to let USA buyers know, I am headed out of the country Dec 9 through January 7, so if it arrives in that time frame, there will be some delay. That being said, let's hope that it arrives before so that I can distribute. I suppose if it hadn't been for Meepledrone, I might not have even pushed to get the ball rolling until after I got back. - :pink-meeple:

Good news! With Meepledrone's help, I was able to successfully negotiate the transaction with Swan Panasia, and our maps are on the way.
Tracking number is: CG001336111TW. Although it's from Taiwan, you can check it with USPS tracking. I'll let you know as things develop, and you can also check yourself whenever you feel like. The customer service rep indicated that it might be like 16-18 days, but with corona, who knows.

Ich bin mir über den Zeitpunkt der Lieferung nicht sicher.
Da Deutschland in der Pole-Position ist, würde ich erwarten, dass jeder aus Deutschland sich als Verteilerzentrum für die anderen Leute in Deutschland und dem Rest von Europa zur Verfügung stellt. So haben wir es auch für die USA gemacht.
Ich kann dem Freiwilligen helfen, indem ich den Kontakt zu Swan Panasia herstelle und ein Angebot anfordere, aber ich bräuchte eine Zieladresse + E-Mail + Telefonnummer, damit sie die Versandkosten berechnen können. Sobald sie sich wieder melden, sollte der Freiwillige die Bestätigungen von allen Beteiligten einholen und das Geld für die Bezahlung einsammeln (das kann meiner Erfahrung nach eine Weile dauern, es sei denn, der Freiwillige zahlt im Voraus - Bestätigungen sind also sehr wichtig, es sei denn, man möchte nicht mit zusätzlichen Karten dastehen).
Wir haben jede Karte für etwa 16 € plus einen Teil der Versandkosten bekommen. Ich war überrascht, dass ich nur 6,59 € an Zollgebühren zahlen musste... Ich hatte mit 100 € oder so gerechnet, aber das Paket wurde als nicht zollpflichtig eingestuft (:o). Dazu kommen noch die Kosten für Verpackung und Versand bis zum Bestimmungsort.
Gibt es Freiwillige, die als Verteilerzentrale fungieren? Ich denke, 13 Personen sind eine ausreichend große Gruppe, um den Prozess zu starten.

I'm not certain about the delivery timing.
As Germany is in pole position, I would expect anyone from Germany to volunteer as distribution hub for the other people in Germany and the rest of Europe. This is how we did it for the USA.
I can assist the volunteer by opening the contact with Swan Panasia and requesting the quotation, but I would need a destination address + email + phone number for them to calculate the shipping costs. Once they replay, the volunteer should handle the confirmations from everyone and collect the money for the payment (this may take a while as per my experience, unless the volunteer pays up front - so confirmations are crucial unless you don't care to end up with extra maps).
We got each map for around €16 plus a portion of the shipping. I was surprised I only paid €6,59 as Customs Duties... I was expecting €100 or so, but the parcel was tagged as nondutiable (:o). Then on top of that, you will have to add packaging and shipping to final destination.
Any volunteers to act as distributor hub? I think 13 people is a group large enough to start the process.

We don't have a UPS near us, so we have to pick it up.
I used a shipping calculator on the internet. But the result is significantly more expensive.

Yes I saw this and was thinking about waiting for a couple of weeks and see what happens.
Before getting hands-on with first bulk order, I asked Cundco and Smiling Monster (the Swan Panasia distributor based in Germany) about their intentions regarding the Taiwan map and both replied they would not sell it. The same happened with the Singapore distributor, so we had to go to Swan Panasia directly. Now we are getting mixed signals...
I have no problem in waiting for any developments.

So, that would be $21.91 + $2.32 = $24.32 that I want to receive from people via PayPal, VenMo, or possibly other means. If people choose to pay via PayPal, you've got absorb the fee if you want the assurance of insurance for paying for a good rather than friends and family. I must receive $24.32 per map after whatever associated costs there are. PM me, and I can give you payment addresses.
The second payment will have two, possibly three, parts. If I have to pay some customs and duties, then I will pass those along and will need to be reimbursed.. Second, I have to ship to you, so that's to be worked out. I usually do USPS first class, but if people want something different, then we can work that out too. Finally, if I have to pay for any containers, then that may be a third component. No tip requested or required.
My ballpark is no more than $45-$50 all in per map. Hopefully less. That being said, I am just looking to cover my out of pocket expenses. My time and effort is a labor of love to community to increase all of our enjoyment.

Let's get going on this USA order of the Taiwan maps
Here's who we've got:

Payment will come in two parts. First, people will pay to get it across the pond to me.
The above represents $328.67 in total or $21.91 per map not including Customs Duties or domestic shipping. Bear in mind, the Europe group was charged around €30 for the currency conversion, so we will take this into account ahead of time. For €30/15 maps is €2 per map. Given the current conversation rate from Google of 0.86 €/$, then that's an extra $2.32 per map. So, that would be $21.91 + $2.32 = $24.32 that I want to receive from people via PayPal, VenMo, or possibly other means. If people choose to pay via PayPal, you've got absorb the fee if you want the assurance of insurance for paying for a good rather than friends and family. I must receive $24.32 per map after whatever associated costs there are. PM me, and I can give you payment addresses.
The second payment will have two, possibly three, parts. If I have to pay some customs and duties, then I will pass those along and will need to be reimbursed.. Second, I have to ship to you, so that's to be worked out. I usually do USPS first class, but if people want something different, then we can work that out too. Finally, if I have to pay for any containers, then that may be a third component. No tip requested or required.
My ballpark is no more than $45-$50 all in per map. Hopefully less. That being said, I am just looking to cover my out of pocket expenses. My time and effort is a labor of love to community to increase all of our enjoyment.

USA update. Maps are in the mail.
So, for the drama. The USPS at 22nd and Van Ness told me that the USPS on 24th and Castro had tubes with caps. I went to USPS on 24th today to mail things, and no tubes with caps. Apparently, they don't exist and no USPS sells tubes with caps. Nevertheless, I was able to get some boxes that fit the maps snugly, and I reinforced the packing with tape. While there would have been an option to get some tubes with caps delivered from Amazon, I'm leaving the country on Dec 9, not returning until Jan 7. So, people would have to have waited a long time in all likelihood.
I made an executive decision to just make it happen today. PM's with tracking to follow.

The idea is to request the order sent to either of you. When you receive it, you would have to split the order, buy additional tubes/boxes to forward the corresponding lot of maps to one person per country who would distribute them to their final owners.
Who is the final volunteer? You will have to confirm the orders and collect the money to pay Swan Panasia and then a second round to ship the maps to each country.

Additionally, we would need to decide within each country who is the recipient and domestic distributor. I underline my proposal (first person with largest order).

USA update! I've been reimbursed by everyone, which is greatly appreciated and two of the eight have already been delivered. Somehow, one has been delivered clear across the country in New York even though one is California has not as of yet...as well several points in between.... How this is possible is beyond me.

HiG haven't disclosed if they are going to sell it on Cundco. Smiling Monster, the Swan Panasia distributor based in Germany had no plans either. I asked them both before starting with the bulk orders. We re completely in the dark for the time being.

I just got word from Swan Panasia about the 2nd bulk order to Europe:
The 37 maps delivered to Germany would cost: (37 * 500 TWD/Map + 4,700 TWD for shipping) = 23,200 TWD.
Assuming 1 TWD = 0,03184 EUR
The 37 maps delivered to Germany would cost: (37 * 15.92 EUR/Map + 149,65 EUR for shipping) = 768,69 EUR. Each map would be 20,78 EUR including shipping, but I would consider an extra 1 EUR due to currency conversion, as it was the case for the previous bulk oder.
On top of this, you will have to add:
* Customs Duties (if any - it was 6,59 EUR for Spain since the box was marked as non dutieable). Do we know if this is the same for Germany?
* Shipping to each country hub and final reciepient. This could be around 15 EUR (as far as I understood to Konrad2605) + additional cardboard boxes/tubes + final delivery if necessary. Please Konrad2605, correct me if I'm wrong.
We would need to confirm if you all agree about the costs.
Once we know everyone is onboard, we would nned to collect the money up front to cover Swan Panasia costs + ~5 EUR per map for possible extra costs = 26 EUR/map.
Wehn Konrad2605 has received the money, he would pay Swan Panasia and the maps would be shipped to him. Once he receives them, he would need to add have to reorganize the maps in separate shippings and get extra boxes as required for the new shippings. He would also get an estimation of the shipping costs to each country, send the packages and collect the money difference from each recipient. These recipients would manage the domestic distribution as required (additional shipping vs. delivery in hand and possible celebratory game... you name it ;)).
I don't know if all this detail is necessary at this point, but I just want to let you know all the intermediate steps required.

Before any money is exchanged, I would recommend to do it once everyone agrees with the costs. If anyone decides to quit, we would need a new quotation without the canceled maps.

In the case of Poland, ma_Rysia would collect all the money locally and make one payment for the maps to reduce currency fluctuations.

We played the Taiwan map at the weekend. With 4 people. We had 2x the basic game and the 1st expansion.

We had only tried the map in general and it worked well.
As you can see, almost all fields are occupied.
