You will both be notified when the next competition becomes available. In the mean time I recommend visiting the chat room every so often and getting in some friendly games, but I think both of you are already doing this...

what is this waiting list for? i read about many events in this forum but i have not clue what is really going on.

Hey Andrornalin, welcome to Carcassonne Central!
A few times a year, there are leagues created where players on this forum can compete against each other. You can subscribe to them on the topic designated to that league before it starts.
Next to that, we often just play friendlies with two or more players involved. We have a chatroom where forummembers meet:

When you want to play, you can post in the PLAY ME NOW-thread or schedule a game up ahead where you can say what time you'll be online and in the chatroom (watch out with the timezones ;) ). In the Weekly Online Game-thread match reports are often posted, along with a screenshot of the game.
