The Red Game
- Decar (starting player) :black-meeple:
- Paul (2nd) :meeple:
- Jere (3rd) :red-meeple:
All players have selected their wood so we are ready to begin.
Decar will place the first tile which I will draw tomorrow morning, so for now we just have the starting tile:

Good luck to all players! I hope it is a great game :) :(y)

Fingers crossed Complete City for 4! fingers crossed
-
Good luck all!

The first tile has been drawn...

I suspect I know what Decar's move is going to be...
Fingers crossed Complete City for 4! fingers crossed

Quiet! I'm thinking ^-^
-
I see 6 options. Maybe you could roll a dice? ;)
-
Quiet! I'm thinking ^-^
Still undecided whether to use a standard or large follower to claim that city? ;)
-
Something like that ;)
I'm unsure why my camera rotated my image, that wasn't helpful.
I'll claim the city for 4 points.
...and leave a follower on the road ::)
PS: I didn't want to give too much tablecloth away ;)
-
Think you can't do that. C:-)
You have to leave the follower on the road and then claim the city. ;)

Could you explicitly say which meeples you use? Thanks!
-
Decar :black-meeple:: +4 (4)
In this instance there's only one piece of "wood" that would allow Decar to claim both features and I think we all know what it is! In the case of large followers and mayors though (assuming anyone has them), these should be identified as it won't be obvious from the picture...
Paul's turn (expect some sort of Lego!)...
-
Wow, playing by forum is amazing - How did Dan change my tablecloth!?!
- The 'wood' I played was plastic...and hard to see and partakes in opera when I'm not using him :(y)
-
An invisible phantom! This game is more realistic than I had anticipated ;) just hope that if you place it as an invisible farmer we won't find out in the end scoring! :)
-
Sorry about the angle. But it's a regular :meeple:
-
Paul,
why don't you use the inn at the lake tile?
-
Its a road segment with an invisible inn. :)
-
Its a road segment with an invisible inn. :)
Ha ha. I'd suggest that maybe he removed the inn because he's a teetotaller but I'm pretty sure this isn't the case! ;)
-
Can you guys believe I didn't even see the lake. :o
At least it's not a huge mistake and it has been updated for my next turn. C:-)

What do people think of the unveiling of my new fan-made expansion for Kids of Carcassonne? It's called "The Kids that never put their toys away"...
Jéré's turn!
-
I claim a road segment with a standard follower... But won't use my invisible guy just yet.

How much is it to purchase this elephant piece? I'd guess at least 8 pts. Looks powerful anyway :)
-
Interesting tablecloth ;D

Interesting tablecloth ;D
Made in Redmond, WA and ultra portable while you're traveling abroad ;)
-
FYI: I'm out this evening, but should be back to lay a tile. I'm also travelling tomorrow; but should be back in the evening.
-
I'm not 100% convinced that Jéré's image was correct as he seems to have placed all meeples as farmers. :D
This is the correct version, with new tile for Decar to place... :(y)
-
At least you can tell that they're all standing robbers, unlike in normal JCloisterZone (that's my only complaint about it, my friend thought he was placing farmers everywhere as it looked like all of the meeples were laying down from how the view was)

Sorry Dan but it's a bit late to complain. You had the opportunity to do so after I submitted my beta version to you. ;)

Here we go:

It bloody rotated it again! Baah!
-
It bloody rotated it again! Baah!
Most likely your camera has a rotation setting that is imprinted into the image file but I believe most of these cameras also has the setting to turn this off. Not sure when it comes to Samsung Galaxy phones but hopefully there's a setting there as well.
-
Yep, the image loads Left to Right not Top to Bottom so the renderer in the browser must get confused.
It's the camera on my phone - which appears to have no setting on it.... hmmm

Yeah. This sucks for many as it's annoying, even for me sometimes. :) But I often edit my images and this usually removes this issue.
One thing you could do, if you can spare a few seconds:
1. Open the image in a photo editor (any one will do)
2. Press CTRL + a to mark the entire image.
3. Press CTRL + x (to cut) or CTRL + c (to copy) the image
4. Open a new image in editor for a clean slate and don't overwrite/save changes to the original image
5. Press CTRL + v to paste the image. Most image editors will automatically adjust to the pasted size accordingly. Photoshop for example opens a new image with the exact dimensions as the clipboard.
6. Save the file as .jpg (for small size) or .png etc.
:meeple:
Edit: I found that I always take photos with the phone's wider side horizontal, as if taken a widescreen image. This has always fixed this issue. Hope this works for you as well.

Hi Paul,
your table cloth is nice. ;D

Hi Paul,
your table cloth is nice. ;D
Pretty soon every member knows every table cloth owned by all members here. ;)
This is not cloth per se but plastic. What do you call these? Plastic covers?

Nice move! Now we have a board shaped like a sword. Aggressive stuff... >:D

We have a similar thing which my wife refers to as a "table protector". I'm not sure it's up to the job though as I've got up in the middle of the night on more than one occasion to attack the table with a variety of weaponry and the table protector does nothing to protect it, it just lies there feeling undeservedly proud of itself...

Tile please O:-)

Since you asked...

Seems like payment for my rotating camera....
I'll employ the same trick as before.
+2 points for the road and a meeple in the city.

Sorry it's late (and quite rubbish) but the King himself delivered it to me!
Over to you Jéré...
PS - Exciting news! I've just discovered that my wife has ordered a new tablecloth! Things might never be the same again!

My turn:

Congrats for the new tablecloth! I promise to make my excel spreadsheet look sexier before the end of the game.

Congrats for the new tablecloth! I promise to make my excel spreadsheet look sexier before the end of the game.
Thanks Jéré, but I don't like to count my tablecloths before they've... hatched (???)... as my wife has a tendency to take things back to the shop quite quickly. Good luck with the increased sexiness! ;)
-
Nothing too exciting here I'm afraid.

Sorry for the delay Paul. :-[

Exciting times!
Let me know if you intend to fly anyone anywhere and I'll let you know what number you've rolled... :)

The new tablecloth arrived today. It's going back to the shop. The "tablecloth" in the photo above is a dry tea-towel...

Wee... Flew into the edge of the world. Too bad the flier has a lousy design I can't steer. :o

Hmm. Apparently the Carcassonne Gods weren't satisfied with Paul's efforts and so are giving Decar a chance to put things right (if he chooses to do so)...

Well, clearly they do mind if you can't see the image.
But fine, let's do everything the way you want to do it...
:red-meeple: Jéré's turn!
-
Argh! Something went wrong! The game is a bit messed up. The tile where my large farmer is located is not correctly positioned: Road should be heading south. Please pay attention! C:-)
Paul please redo your turn. Thanks!
-
Or maybe I should just shut up and land on Paul's road with inn using the flier! ;)
-
Argh! Something went wrong! The game is a bit messed up. The tile where my large farmer is located is not correctly positioned: Road should be heading south. Please pay attention! C:-)
Apologies if I've messed anything up again, and thanks for pointing it out. You should count yourself lucky; I made two mistakes on the Blue game! And after such a long delay while I tried to sort everything out as well... :-[
In truth, I have quite a lot on at the moment (as do all of us I'm sure). It's nothing out of the ordinary, just work and family stuff really, but everything I do at CarcC all adds to it and I have a lot on here too. I love it all (obviously), but too many late nights and early mornings are certainly taking their toll and I'm making mistakes in other areas too (see Order of the Meeple where I missed off some achievements for three people and Last Meeple Standing where I arranged a game with jma03 that shouldn't have happened).
I think it's probably going to be better for the consistency of the game if I stick to drawing tiles, rolling dice and nothing else other than communicating these draws and rolls back to you guys. This is kind of how I'd hoped it would be from the start anyway as most of the fun comes from setting up and posting the photos of each move and I want everyone else to be able to enjoy that side of things too. Plus I'm already sick of the sight of my own tablecloth, tea-towel and living-room rug... :))
With this in mind, I will re-draw another tile for you Jéré once Paul has taken his last move again. This will prevent any unfair knowledge of tiles to come from influencing his decision! Paul, I will also re-roll for you if you choose to use a flying machine with your second attempt. Apologies again for any confusion I've caused. :-\
-
Here is the correct board. I placed my tile on the same spot and flew to join in on the city using the number 2 roll. This would probably have been my move anyway.
-
Question: Do we decide which meeple to use before you roll the flier dice? Is this not the official rule still?
-
Well, the tile was correctly placed when you drew Paul's tile... So I'm not blaming you. I think players should be responsible for checking (and double-checking!) that everything is placed correctly, not you Dan!
-
Well, the tile was correctly placed when you drew Paul's tile... So I'm not blaming you. I think players should be responsible for checking (and double-checking!) that everything is placed correctly, not you!
But it was my fault. :@ I placed the tile with the big follower wrong. Up until my turn, the tile was correctly placed and I had placed that tile wrong prior to my move hence did not see it until someone else spotted it.
-
Question: Do we decide which meeple to use before you roll the flier dice? Is this not the official rule still?
Yes, the follower is deployed on the flier symbol then the die is rolled. So you choose which one you use beforehand.
-
Now Paul has re-positioned the Tile - the dice must be re-rolled. Otherwise you've could have put that tile anywhere you liked in order to fly to an appropriate tile.
-
Just to be clear, I have “re-rolled” (https://www.random.org/) for Paul’s flyer and it was a 2 again; hence that he was able to land on Decar’s little city. I did say that I would re-roll for Paul in my message, but when it was a 2 again I just let him carry on rather than confusing things further.
So, it’s now over to Jéré who has a ccff to place (single city, no pennant)...
-
This is a lot of effort for one game!! Good luck all :)
-
OK, I could do with a sensible close up and clear indicator of what type of meeple is where.
Paul, I think that was a normal follower you put on the flyer - is that right?
-
That was a normal follower yes. :yellow-meeple:
From now on, I will always state which follower is placed like many of you have done so far. Last thing I need is to add confusion! ???
-
goodo!
..because that table cloth isn't confusing in the slightest! :(y) :(y) :P

:) I usually have that green mat used for miniature battle gaming but it's currently occupied by a heap of LEGO bags. I got until Midnight today to clean up the apartment before family comes home from vacation. Gotta love a slow day at work when need one! :-*

Hopefully this is correct. Standard follower, bottom right.

Decar's turn... :black1-meeple: (hopefully the tile layout is now correct)
(the majority of future posts from me in this thread will be details of tiles drawn only)
-
Sorry for the delay.
No surprises here. I'll take the risk and hope Paul fancies working together ;)
Roll the die Dan!
-
:) Think it's safe to say no matter what the dice result is, there is only one place to land, on my road. Argh! >:D
-
Indeed its the perfect runway for landing
-
Let's just hope they can get off the runway ;)
-
Roll the die Dan!
Sorry Decar, but it's a 4... :(
(actually it's a 3 - nicely flown)
-
Next tile is a standard ffrr (i.e. one of the "bend in the road" tiles from the basic game)
Sorry for drawing such a boring tile Paul!
-
Phew, that's a nice tile, just don't get that orientation wrong ;)
Also, Dan I forgot to say 'please' roll the dice.
But I'll say thank you :) Thank You
-
Next tile is a standard ffrr (i.e. one of the "bend in the road" tiles from the basic game)
Sorry for drawing such a boring tile Paul!
I was hoping to get that one for some reason...
-
The ffrr tile reminds me of a part of the song Wild Nights. "...on a corner or a bend... " by John Cougar Mellancamp.
I'll make my move when I come home from fotball game.
-
Nothing fancy; A road claimed.
-
Can I have a cloister? Pleaase :)
-
That barn has to go somewhere ;)
-
Indeed I need to fill that gap before Paul places his big LEGO barn
-
Can I have a cloister? Pleaase :)
Yeah, no problem! :(y)
>:D
EDIT: I should probably point out that this tile was drawn at random and isn't merely some sort of mean trick
-
Worse cloister ever! :) thanks anyway ;)

Hi Jéré,
why didn't you placed the cloister on the top of the other cloister?
Your "excel-table cloth" is still in white.
-
Hi Jéré,
why didn't you placed the cloister on the top of the other cloister?
Your "excel-table cloth" is still in white.
Because I thought the 2 meeples in same city needed some company...
About my excel tablecloth, I have found a very nice one but it created an issue that would require a lot of work to fix: just before going on holidays I have cut the tiles from the CAR. I was in a rush and I did it "quick and dirty." Result is that there is some white left around some tiles and when I add a background image it looks terrible.
-
and by company you mean a road block :(
Jéré would you like me to send you the tiles JCZ uses?
-
Jéré would you like me to send you the tiles JCZ uses?
That would definitely help! Thanks!
-
here comes an example table cloth for the excel table from Jéré (tablecloth in yellow-green)
-
Good idea! Looks nice. :)
-
What I had in mind was actually to use a wooden tabletop background... It will look very familiar for the users of the iOS app.
-
Worse cloister ever! :) thanks anyway ;)
I like this tile. Even if it doesn't work very well for your current position, the fact that it's a frfr which separates the two roads makes it an interesting one as far as I'm concerned. :(y)
Decar's tile next, and it's a crfr (start tile) from the basic game...
-
Here is the manual version of Carcassonne Excel. I've limited it to only the base game but should give you an idea what can be done.
You could in theory make the entire game in Excel, with random drawing a tile and placing it. Back in the days when I used Excel extensively, I made an entire webpage in it, with links, popups, images etc. including a download section.
Video to the Carcassonne Excel example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhAYt2WM2oE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhAYt2WM2oE)

here comes the example with table wood Jéré:

Gosh! PowerPoint. That was twenty years ago since I used it and taught my students this when I worked as teacher. Is it still around? :@

Next challenge for Decar: rescue a near trapped meeple and claim a city in the same operation.

Thanks Jere, sorry totally slipped my mind. But that was the plan :(y)
-
Thanks Jere, sorry totally slipped my mind. But that was the plan :(y)
...but you do realise that I will have the option to expand your own city (you know one of those weird moves) and trap 2 meeples instead of just one? :)
-
The thought had crossed my mind Jere (sorry)! I was tempted to extend the Cathedral Road into your city; but for now it's all about finishing some features; before I get stuck.
You may notice i'm running out of table space:

My farmer wasn't good enough to keep him company? :P

Sorry, he's just that way inclined!
-
Good morning Red game!
Here are three clues as to what your next tiles is:
1) It’s exclusive to Inns & Cathedrals
2) It’s a city-city-city-city
3) There are only 2 of them
Hopefully this should be more than enough to work out what it is. Now you just have to decide where to put it.
Have fun with your tile Paul... :yellow-meeple:
-
It takes longer for me to find the tiles than to do my turn. :o They are not exactly sorted other than by expansions.
Not sure if it's good to have it early on or not but I will be brave and "sacrifice" a standard meeple for that city.

Bet you wish you put that road tile somewhere more useful now Paul :(y)
Tough to tell. Considering the outcome would have changed either way I would still be in a pickle. Now that the road is shared, there's plenty of beneficial tiles for both share holders to survive the winding road.
Speaking of winding road, if haven't heard it yet, look up Shery Crow's song with the same name. O:-)
-
Let's hope so ;D
I'm a 'Long and Winding Road' kind of guy myself
-
Here it is: just more wood :)
Wow Jéré! Your Excel-based Carcassonne is starting to look less and less like a spreadsheet and more like an actual tabletop game. Very nice indeed :(y)

Any news Decar? :black1-meeple:
-
Sorry,
Totally misjudged how busy i'd be yesterday and today.
I need to prepare a demo for 5pm today for a Fortune 30 customer.
I've taken a photo
it's going to block in paul/my city and road.
I'll use my phantom for 2 points- road to cloister.
and attempt to share a city with ANOTHER meeple with Jere.
ill upload photo properly when ive got a sec: https://goo.gl/photos/oqJKQgP4QdymTy5x8

Scores so far: (please correct if wrong)
:black-meeple: : 8 (2-tile city, 2-tile road, 2-tile road)
:yellow-meeple: : 4 (2-tile city)
:red-meeple: : 2 (2-tile road)
Now it's over to Paul :yellow-meeple: to place this crrf...
-
Please take your time Paul :(y) :(y) :(y) :(y) - but there's not many more of them.
-
Seriously??
That's almost indecent :o
-
The way I see it, if we're getting the good tiles now; you'll be getting the awesome tiles later :(y)

I think I may have forgotten to turn off the "tile-drawing bias" when I picked it out of the bag! Either that or your voodoo curse has backfired...
-
I'll have to think about this. I'll let you guys know in the year 2077. ;)

I hope so... :'(
I think I may have forgotten to turn off the "tile-drawing bias" when I picked it out of the bag! Either that or your voodoo curse has backfired...
I will send an enhancement request to Farin for JCZ 3.4: The voodoo curse (but it will be an option hidden deep into the settings and only me would know how to turn it on/off).
I'll have to think about this. I'll let you guys know in the year 2077. ;)
Arghhh!! >:( ;)
-
I almost had to eat those words when I said "year 2077". Took me 2 hours to find the Barn tiles.
Well, I guess it's an obvious move but not a complete win for me. I don't score for the Barn which sucks (large red follower). Gotta think long term though.
ERRATA: The city scoring is for yellow and black not red and black!
-
Boom!
A game-changing placement there from Paul... :o
I make that 9 points for Jéré for the farm + 14 points for Paul/ Decar for the road + 4 points for Paul/ Decar for the city:
:black-meeple: : 26 (2-tile city, 2-tile road, 2-tile road, 7-tile road [+inn], 2-tile city)
:yellow-meeple: : 22 (2-tile city, 7-tile road [+inn], 2-tile city)
:red-meeple: : 11 (2-tile road, 3-city farm)
Next tile is for Jéré :red-meeple:...

At least, something I did well was to anticipate Paul's placement of the barn with my large follower! Thanks for the points and I get my large guy back! :(y)
-
I expand my city and place a farmer in the tiny field.

Thanks again Dan (+1 for continually pulling tiles). I'm blatantly going to have AP over these....be warned.

This isn't something I suffer from too much, but my brain has been running in Safe Mode for years... :o
-
Some (totally random) stats after 7 turns :))
Average time elapsed between the moment Dan reveals a tile and players posting their turn:
:black1-meeple: Decar: 33.6 hours
:yellow-meeple: Paul: 2.4 hours
:red-meeple: Jéré: 2.9 hours
-
I'm glad you've put that extra time I've found for you to good use. :(y)
Sorry, I obviously didn't understand. I thought a premise of a playing-by-forum was that it would be played over an extended period of time; to fully consider out moves; and that there was no rush to be finished.
Besides, all of the expansions we're playing are in JCloisterZone. If we wanted it to be over faster; we're all in relatively close time-zones, I'm sure we can meet up one evening and just play the game. That way we don't have to put Dan through the effort of managing the game for us.
Again, I apologize for any inconvenience caused by delaying any games, stopping you from using your tiles for games with other people; while your tiles are laid out across your desk/floor or usual food preparation surface.
I'm not really motivated by friendly reminders.
I concede.
If you're calculations are correct I think you'll easily have the game completed by next Sunday; then you'll have time for other things. I'm sure Dan will happily set an alarm to post a new tile every 3 hours to make sure this happens.
I'm sorry to have held you up.
-
So what happens now? Decar has left the game.
I am afraid I must follow Decar's lead. I am currently looking at a huge pile of tiles and - I did not write this. Paul
-
Hi all.
Based on recent feedback, it appears that there’s no longer sufficient support to continue with the game. This seems like a shame, but these things happen so it’s better to quit while we’re ahead less behind than we’ll probably end up. Apologies to anyone who feels let down by this but there isn’t really any fair or reasonable way of continuing either game as I see it...

At present I do not know who is in and who is out. Other than that Decar, I believe, is out. :(
Paul/ Jéré: I would be grateful if you could both post below to confirm whether you wish to continue with the game? I will try to find a replacement player for Decar if you wish to continue...
-
I wish to continue.
MrNumbers edited my earlier post. Maybe copied it something went haywire. :@

My apologies O:-)
I transfered this post from Blue game's thread, but somehow :-\ ??? I was thinking it was Paul's message, so I just merged them in right thread. Now I see my mistake. Please, restore Rosco's post (as it seems I don't have enough rights to do so).
-
Hello all.
As you may have noticed, this game has ground to a bit of a halt as one of the participants has dropped out. However, since the other two players wish to continue, and I’d like it to continue too, Black’s space in this game is being made available to anyone who wishes to take it over. This will include Black’s wood choices which I will communicate to the new player via PM, score, current position on the board and opportunity to place the next tile. We won’t be starting over as this would be unfair to the two players who have already invested a lot of time and effort in the game so far...
There are no pre-requisites for taking part, but I do ask that you consider this only if you feel that you will be able to commit yourself to it and take your turns in a relatively timely manner (i.e. no more than a couple of days per tile if possible). It’s preferable that you’re able to keep track of the game on a table somewhere so that you can submit your turns via photo but this needn’t be a barrier if you’re unable to do so but are otherwise keen to play as someone else (probably me) can do this for you.
So without further ado, please post below if you’d be interested in taking part! :)
-
:)
-
If you agree I'm In.
So few chances to play recently I'll take anything.
I can't replicate the game at home but I'll do my very best to instruct clearly where I want the tiles placed. ;D

Excellent! I'm happy for you to step in if you are. Details are on the way... :(y)
If you're someone who might have been interested in this, but missed out, there is still a space in the Blue Game (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1929.msg27388#msg27388). Good luck! :)
-
OK, so I'll place the cccc tile on the upper left on top the cccr tile with a large follower on the left city segment and the normal follower on the upper city segment.
-

You can't place a large follower and a normal follower on the same turn... C:-)
-
Sorry I meant the large follower on the left and the phantom on the upper city segment.
-
Please join me in wishing ChooseLife a warm welcome to the Red Game! :) :(y)
Here is the landscape after his first contribution to it... and he's off to a good start as :black1-meeple:!
(please note that this is a large follower on the city segment adjacent to Paul's cathedral city)
The next tile is shown below, and it's up to Paul :yellow-meeple: to place it:

I'll post a screenshot tomorrow morning. So prepare the next tile and player. :@

Over to Jéré now, here's your tile:
-
Hi! Sorry, i'm travelling so no screenshot this time, hope it's ok.
Just want to close my city for 10 pts and place a normal follower on the other small city. Thanks!
...and welcome Chooselife!! ;)
-
Just want to close my city for 10 pts and place a normal follower on the other small city. Thanks!
Nice! :)
OK I will set the game up and take a photo when I get home. Hopefully. Depending on what kind of a state the house is in... :o
In the meantime though, the next tile is for ChooseLife :black1-meeple: to place and is a rrrf (T-junction) from the basic game.
-
Hum........ ::)
I'll put it on the lower right on the opposite to the :red-meeple: farmer with the junction pointing down (just like a "T") and I'll lay down a farmer on the upper undivided field segment.
-
I should be compensated with some points whenever anyone uses my barn! :@
-
I've been inspired by some of Paul's Lego posts, but since we don't have much Lego in the house, you'll have to settle with Duplo as the two guys in this picture were only too happy to help...
The first guy (with yellow hat) has just placed ChooseLife's tile for him, complete with farmer. Meanwhile, Duplo Superman (minus cape) has just wheeled on the next tile for Paul to place. Exciting times!
:blue-meeple:
-
Nothing fancy, just finishing my running course (road) for four points. :yellow-meeple:
-
Next tile is a straight road - frfr - from the basic game.
Jéré's turn! :red-meeple: :(y)
-
In the train, almost home...
Please complete the road where my farmer is and place the pig in the field. That should be 8pts. Thanks!
-
So, Jéré's farmer had a pig in his pocket all along, and this has propelled him into the lead...
:red-meeple: : 29 (2-tile road, 3-city farm, 4-tile city [+pennant], 4-city farm [+pig])
:black-meeple: : 26 (2-tile city, 2-tile road, 2-tile road, 7-tile road [+inn], 2-tile city)
:yellow-meeple: : 26 (2-tile city, 7-tile road [+inn], 2-tile city, 4-tile road)
Not much in it though!
Chooselife is next to place a tile, so here it is:
-
I'll join in the Cathedral city and place a builder.

My sexy Excel spreadsheet is back :)
... and I place the tile in the cathedral city to "help" a little bit.
-
Jéré, how kind of you! O:-)
OK, I won't post a photo of the next tile as it's a cccr from the basic game, with pennant.
Have fun with it ChooseLife! :black1-meeple: :(y)
-
I'll join on the bottom left city with the road to the left.
-
I'll join on the bottom left city with the road to the left.
I feel compelled to point out that - "sharing is caring" - before anyone else does. Can't think who though? ;)
The next tile is a cfcf featuring two separate city caps at opposite ends of the tile and a single farm running between them.
Looks like it’s up to Paul to decide where to put it!
:yellow-meeple: :(y)
-
Simple moi, scoring a little city.
-
Cathedral city is missing a tile. See my last move.
Btw, you just took the lead. (y)

That it does. Maybe it fell to the floor. Edge of the world and all that. *making excuses* :@

I'm out of tiles now (I've started drawing 6 at a time and taking a photo of them so that I can crop it to an individual tile and post the photo or simply describe it if it's from the base game). I'll draw some more when I get home and let you know what comes out...
Right, so here's the next tile:
Over to you Jéré :red-meeple: :(y)
-
Ok, let's try something new:
A FLYING MAYOR :)

A flying red mayor. That is as close as we can get to a Red Baron in this game. ;D
-
Hehe :)
I might as well crush the barn with my bell-bottoms!

Nicely flown!
Excitingly enough, the next tile is a ccrr with a pennant in the city AND an inn on the road.
What have you got Chooselife? :black1-meeple: :(y)
-
Please add it to the top right city with the phantom with the open city segment to the left.

Paul, a gift for you...
An ffff from the basic game can only mean one thing; it's cloister time! :yellow-meeple: O:-)
-
I hope this done right as I am in a bit of a hurry. Cloister placed for 8 points later. O:-)
-
Not bad, apart from that you missed the inn off the road on Chooselife's tile above his phantom. That's the only thing I spotted anyway... C:-)
-

Darn-stadt. :yellow-meeple:
At least a new record from tile drawn posting to tile placed posting. :(y)

It's like we're playing 2 games at the same time: Carcassonne and Spot the difference :D

So tempting now making this permanent!

Haha please don't! ;)
-
Haha please don't! ;)
Probably right. I mean, I will make mistakes unwillingly anyway so. :@ But I will try not to! I do have the board permanently set up but still get some things wrong.
-
It's just that there is a small risk that the next player doesn't notice the difference... and he will have to undo his turn like it already happened in this game. Otherwise this would be fun. The loop runner was a good one as it couldn't disturb the course of the game :)

The course of the game
A running gag
Loop holes
:@
Yep, it's that kind of morning (for me) ^-^

It's like we're playing 2 games at the same time: Carcassonne and Spot the difference :D
Hmm. That gives me an idea... ;)
Right, next tile is one from Abbey & Mayor. It's a cfff with pennant but the city takes up most of the tile as the corners of it stretch out into the two other corners of the tile such that there are 3 distinct fields (I would post a picture but my phone is out of battery so I can't get to it).
-
Unless Chooselife has an abbey, it's going to hurt...
-
An overview of some of emotions ChooseLife may be feeling...
:o >:( :-[ :'(
That's got to hurt.
Anyway, onward and upward and all that. The next tile is the rrrr (4-way cross-roads) from the basic game.
Good luck ChooseLife! :black1-meeple: :(y)
-
From what I see on the table, I can conclude that Chooselife does not have an abbey.
Builder costs 5 credits, phantom and large follower both cost 3 credits for a total of 11.
4 credits left, which was not enough to buy an abbey (5 credits)
Very sorry Chooselife. :-/
-
An overview of some of the emotions Jéré may be feeling...
O0 >:D :P
-
From what I see on the table, I can conclude that Chooselife does not have an abbey.
An abbey isn't the only way to close that city though is it? Obviously I can't say either way, but there was something else available for 4 points... >:D
-
I think Chooselife is K.O.
-
I can't go out for the weekend without you nailing me to the wall. >:D >:D
I'll put the rrrr to the right of my farmer on the bottom right closing a road for 2 points.
-
Sorry for the delay.
Paul, your next tile is a cfff...
Good luck :yellow-meeple:
:yellow-meeple: : 30 (2-tile city, 7-tile road [+inn], 2-tile city, 4-tile road, 2-tile city)
:red-meeple: : 29 (2-tile road, 3-city farm, 4-tile city [+pennant], 4-city farm [+pig])
:black-meeple: : 28 (2-tile city, 2-tile road, 2-tile road, 7-tile road [+inn], 2-tile city, 2-tile road)
-
I'll take that city to the south and complete it for 4 points. Yep, even I am entitled to do a lazy ass turn. :@
Mondays are usually a lot of work for me, sorry about that!
-
OK then, let's make it so...
:yellow-meeple: : 34 (2-tile city, 7-tile road [+inn], 2-tile city, 4-tile road, 2-tile city, 2-tile city)
:red-meeple: : 29 (2-tile road, 3-city farm, 4-tile city [+pennant], 4-city farm [+pig])
:black-meeple: : 28 (2-tile city, 2-tile road, 2-tile road, 7-tile road [+inn], 2-tile city, 2-tile road)
(next tile coming soon)
-
Jéré, the next tile is the cccc from the basic game. Have fun with it! :)
-
Thanks! I'll try to be nice with Chooselife. Hopefully he will forgive me for trapping 9 credits worth of wood!
I place the cccc tile in his city:
-
How very generous of you Jéré! It looks as though you've turned over a new leaf and decided to make this a friendly game... O:-)
Let's see how Chooselife decides to reward your "kindness". The next tile is a cathedral! >:D
-
A cathedral is it well let's spread the faith. Please add it to the available spot on the bottom right.
-
Awww, you guys!
:red-meeple: :-* :black1-meeple:
Hopefully Paul isn't feeling too left out? It's a cfrf (affectionately referred to as the "rat tail") for you :yellow-meeple:...
-
Hopefully I can make my turn today!
-
Hopefully I can make my turn today!
No problem at all! Evidently Jéré and Chooselife were chomping at the bit to get going again, but I think they have things slightly easier than you in terms of setting up the game and posting their moves. Take all the time you need. :)
-
Yeah. Felt guilty about my last move without a screenshot. Need a bigger table now so have lay out the Tiles from now on.
-
And here it is. A clean and hopefully accurate version of our Red Game.
The upside of having tiles in excess allows me to use the other side to fill the gaps and use the Count tiles to keep track of the rows.
Now I simply have to collect the tiles in order and then when it is my turn again I can lay them out much faster. If more than 13 rows I just bring out another Count tile set and start from 1 again and so forth. :@

Nice! Only thing missing (as far as I can tell) is the rrrr to the right of Chooselife's farmer. But I guess if you'd included that you would have had to have put a whole row of other tiles in and I know you're running short... :)

In my defense, I was only following the last image. :@ (Darn! So close to a perfect turn.)

Next tile is a ccrr with no pennant (basic game).
Over to you Jéré :red-meeple: :(y)

How about being unfriendly again? :)
My large farmer wants to become a large knight:

On the right of the bottom abbey. :)
Are you sure? That might make it a little bit more difficult for Jéré to close his city, and he's always so kind to everyone else after all... O:-)
Right, so, time to move on. The next tile is for Paul and is field on all 4 sides with a cloister in the middle. Do it!

I'll see about making my move tomorrow during work hours.

Oopsie daisie. Two days. I'm not sure when tonight I be home so I'll do it tomorrow. :-[

On the right of the bottom abbey. :)
Where exactly is this placed?!? I see no abbey tile on the board nor that one has been placed.

I see at least 2 mistakes in your image Paul.
- missing meeple in bottom cathedral city
- roundabout with well in the middle not oriented correctly

Spoiler Alert! ;D

Yep. I got my league stuff. :) The metal meeple is heavy so it's on the jogging course... :@

Jéré - it's a ffrr from the basic game for you...
Good luck! :red-meeple: :(y)

I place a farmer in the south field.
I tried to add some nice things like Paul, but I'm not as skilled :-(

I used my abbey, gained 9 points from already placed follower on a cloister.
I also think I am at a huge disadvantage here. 5 points gone to waste for me while you guys are roaming free with too many followers. If it's alright by the other players, I would ask if it's possible to gain a fifth (regular) meeple to compensate this.
It's all new territory but I also would like to keep the game fun instead of having to battle unfair odds the remainder of the game.

I don't we trade, I'l give you two of my meeples when/if free for one Abbey.
Since the followers were "bought" it woudl be fun to trade them.
-
Hi Paul, I’m sorry if you feel like the abbey was a waste but if you thought buying it was going to put you at a disadvantage then why did you buy it? Part of the point of the game was that everyone was free to do whatever they wanted with their credits, and nobody knew what everyone else was going to do. It’s true that the abbey was expensive, but I don’t think it was disproportionately expensive for such a potentially powerful piece, it all depends how you choose to use it.
You could look at it another way and say that Chooselife would gladly sacrifice some of his extra pieces for an abbey now that he desperately needs one. The point is that you don’t know how the game is going to go or what else the other players are going to bring to the table. That was what made this game unique.
I like the idea of players being able to swap pieces during the game, and this could definitely be considered for a future game. Out of fairness to everyone involved though, I’d prefer it if we stuck to the rules established at the start of this game until the end.

Sorry! Feel free to stick needles in your Dan meeple if it helps... :o

This isn't a championship or a contest with prizes, as far as I know. How about a vote or at least a discussion? Is anyone on my side on this?
This is how the board looks like now and for the rest of the game:
Yellow (me): A barn and four meeples.
Black: Large follower, Phantom and 5 regular followers
Red: Large follower, Mayor, 4 standard followers.
In essence, they have 2-3 more followers to play with rest of the game.
Now, we all didn't quite know how this would turn out as it's new to us all, figure this is supposed to be a friendly fun game I'm sure we can allow for some leeway.

I understand both positions the ones playing want to have fun and win and Dan not playing is giving us the ability to play by keep it tight.
The majority of the wood I've on board is either stuck or in minority so but although trading would be a awesome way to get me back in the game if I end up winning it wouldn't be that fare as the rules changed halfway and I was the ones suggesting it. >:D O:-)
In the end this is the most close to a proper game I've been playing and the opportunities and schedule to get back as an regular at JCZ evenings are getting dimmer and dimmer so I'm happy with whatever you decide.

I think in further games you should have some credits to use them during the game ...
-
Paul,
I would have expected you to do some sort of mea culpa and say: "well, I realise now (after playing for 3 months) that my purchases were perhaps not the best and will not allow me to win... I will do better next time!". But no, unfortunately... Maybe you could also reckon that the current situation might be the result of other players having better strategies (tile placements, purchases, etc.) But instead you seem to think that there is something unfair in the way we all agreed to spend our respective credits.
I understand this is not a competition but this is certainly a fun experiment and by changing the rules mid-way, we couldn't properly measure how good (or bad) our initial purchases were. This is one of the reason why I would like to continue like this until the end. Otherwise, how will I accurately know if I had a good strategy if we modify the parameters? After several months of playing, that would be my reward to be able to evaluate my strategy. I actually don't care much about winning... it is certainly a bonus but not my main criterion for having fun.
Another reason would be that you are currently the leader on the score board and you have a big fat barn comfortably sitting in the middle of the main field... dude, that's a shit load of points you've got right there! I've seen situation worse than that!
Thirdly, you speculate on the current content of my meeple supply. At this stage, we have revealed most of our purchases but there is still a bit of unknown... What if I also bought an abbey and I profoundly regret, a bit like you do? What if I have a barn that I'm desesperately trying to place in main field, and at the end I fail to acheive that and I say the F word out loud?? What about bridges: how good are they in the context of our current game? You simply assume that my supply is full of standard followers ready to invade the landscape but that's wrong, I can tell you that. Just wait and see. I think the fun resides in discovering what the others have bought and how you can improve you own strategy for the next game... and also gathering ideas in order to improve the rules next time. I have already suggestions for the prices in credits but I won't share now, just once we have completed the game.
If I were you, I'd try to complete other small cities in the main field to score even more points with your barn. Try to make good use of the trapped monk you just rescued. By the way, with your abbey, you have also blocked (not completely but...) our farmers from joining the main field... so it was not completely vain! Cheer up man! I've seen much desperate situations and I still believe that this game is fun and friendly.
Jéré

Paul, do you have any further comments? If not, I'd suggest to simply move on and I'd ask Dan to reveal the next tile.
Let us know :) thanks!
-
Ok. Next tile.
-
Not to complicate things further, I'll leave my Abbey tile where it is and simply put a monk on it and claim 9 points from the other cloister (finally ending my turn).

Next tile is a cccf (no pennant) for Jéré...

I presume auto spellcheck scrambled your sentence. Could you repost please.

Come on guys emoji code14] I want to play the tile on the road hiatus at the bottom of the map and put a follower/robber/meeple in.

What do you mean by hiatus?

A pause or gap in a sequence, series, or process: 'there was a brief hiatus in the war with France' @ Oxford Dictionary

Hi atus! :) Welcome to the forums... :(y)
Do you mean like this?

I know right, I'm wasting my time with databases and my true calling in life was as an MS Paint artist! ;)

Please guys, be more engaging when making a move. I spend a lot of time prepping my move and get sh*t for my opinions or if I am doing something wrong.
You can use the count coords from my turn for example. I don't want to use my time to try to guess your move. Honestly, I am the only one in this game truly putting an effort into this.

Sorry if the vagueness about the latest move has bothered you Paul. But let's remember that CarcC is a worldwide forum and that standards of English between members are always going to be inconsistent at best. If it helps keep the game moving by describing where a tile should be placed rather than waiting however many days are required to post a photo (which are often error-prone due to the nature of re-constructing the board each time) then I'm all for it.
Apologies also if I haven't congratulated you sufficiently on the effort you're personally putting into this game. Well done! :) :(y)

Sorry Paul but I have to disagree with you first as I don't believe I give you sh*t for your movements or complaining about what you are doing special because Carcassonne is not a cooperative game so you can do pretty much whatever you want as long as according to the rules.
Also I don't give a rats arse on the time you take to do your move or to understand mine, my only concern is to play as fast as possible in order not to keep you and Dan waiting for me and since I'm only able to check the forum on tapatalk mobile it's not easy to go back pages just to check coordinates.
I really think as was succinct enough for everybody understand my move as we are all seasoned players so next time when I receive a tapatalk notification instead of answering it as fast as possible I'll put the crying baby back on the crib pick up the crayons and do sketch of my move so it is beyond doubt.
Sorry for the terms and the expressions used but I really think you exceeded a bit on your considerations about the effort that Jere, I and Dan for that matter put into this.

I forfeit this game. What started as a good idea has turned ugly and this is not what I consider a friendly game nor treatment of a fellow member.

Just because it's a friendly game doesn't mean you shouldn't expect others to try to win; it's still a game after all and games have winners.
If I could understand the source of this perceived "ugliness" or bad treatment then perhaps we could work something out, but other than that you didn't understand how many followers you had and then didn't like that Chooselife's post wasn't clear enough for you, I remain at a loss as to what's actually wrong... ???

Can we keep playing please....

Can we keep playing please....
If you and Jéré would like to keep the game going as a 2-player then I would be happy to continue drawing tiles for you. But I don't think 3 players is an option anymore unless Paul wishes to change his mind about throwing in the towel.
