The Marketplace / Re: WTB - Many different expansions and special items
« on: October 15, 2022, 06:43:05 AM »
I see you have Ark of the covenant included in there. I should let you know that there are two versions of this spin-off: 1) includes a cardborad ark piece and a plastic stand, 2) includes a wooden ark piece. The second one is usually more desirable. I don't know which one you want or if you are interested in seeking out both, but I would recommend to first think about this and verify which version potential sellers are offering.

If you wish to know what they look like, here is the cardboard one (plastic piece on the left is not official):

and here the wooden one:

You can find more pictures of both in the image section on BGG.

Jut to make a distiction clear, there are other items sometimes also called "bundles", which do have a unique box or box art. These also include base game + some expansion(s). On WICA they are called limited editions.

48
They are not special, just regular boxes wrapped together by shrinkwrap. Also note that this list of bundles is nowhere near exhaustive - there are tens if not hundreds of other bundles not included there, released in various countries by various sellers.

Exactly! The Cults is one of those (many) unfortunate expansions that set out to do a very specific thing, but failed completely at execution. This is even worse because the cults are trying to solve a problem that never existed. For some reason, in the early years of casual Carcassonne there was this paradigm that cloisters are "too powerfull" and whoever draws more cloisters probably wins. This couldn't be further from the truth - cloisters are the weakest and most risky feature of the original game and for many many years has not recieved any boons in the various expansions making them seriously malnourished feature. In fact cloisters recieved several counter-elements (including cults) making them even weaker! It was way overdue when HiG finally decided to throw cloisters a bone. They are the ultimate red herring of Carcassonne.

Even if they were justified, the Cults failed for the reasons you mentioned. So to answer the question, no I usually don't play with rules for the Cults, just with the tiles to make them into more cloisters in hopes of making this feature type more powerful.

General / Re: How many players in your normal Carcassonne games?

Base game only for the purposes of competitive tournament style play - exclusively with 2 players.
Addition of any expansions ideally 3 players.

Or charity supporters - the point of the tile.

Charity supporters would pay more for one (ore two, or three) and let the money go where is supposed to go. So 30€ for three tiles (e.g.), not for ten tiles.

10X 3€ tile provides better granularity than 3X 10€ tile, so the potential supporters have more options on how much to spend. Also 10€ for a single tile is kind of a lot for the primary market, even if it is for charity purposes. From the point of the buyer, it is still a normal product.

Thanks for the update Willem! Let's hope the numbers are indeed high. But I have to agree that making a charity tile explicitly limited is a strange choice. The other charity items in the past were not limited.

Of course they are  ::)

How does your farm scoring work?

No lines means one tile, unlike Count of Carcassonne or Wheel of fortune.

If you like keeping track of yor games, perhaps you would be interested in Carcassonne Game Notation
https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=5644.0

Currently it supports base game only, but if you care for a quick highly competitive game (tournament style), then you recording your games would help you improve your play  :(y)

An expanded notation for all the expansions is in the works as well.

Are you sure? What about interaction with Ferries? That has potential to be very annoying.
