The Marketplace / Send me Carcassonne Star Wars!
« on: October 17, 2015, 11:37:35 AM »
If you're not aware due to licensing restrictions Carcassonne: Star Wars is not available outside of Europe.  This means people in the USA cannot get hold of it from a local retailer.

I thought I'd start this post to at least:

1) list online shops that WILL ship to the USA

2)Allow people in USA to find people in Europe who could order on their behalf and then forward the game via domestic shipping; possibly grouping orders to save on postage.

General / Inns and Cathedrals and Traders and Builder Tile - Changes
« on: October 13, 2015, 12:16:50 PM »
I thought I'd include some fairly low quality photos of the two reworked expansions that we released last month.

I don't think they're good enough to use/print copy etc, so I hope it's ok to show people so they can comment on the new art work.

First Inns and Cathedrals 2.0

&

Traders and Builders 2.0

There's 1 significant change to Inns and Cathedrals.  The Inn on the 3-way cross-roads now affects BOTH roads, not just the one on the right.  This is highlighted in the Rules, here is the tile:

Also you may have spotted that 4 tiles have Gardens to play alongside  The Abbot Expansion, here they are:

InC:

TnB:

I think these are tactically interesting as it gives the player an extra choice on a powerful (or useless when I play it) tiles.  Do I play on the city with a trade good, or the Garden for example.  Or the Road with an Inn or The Garden.

As a small peace offering to the neigh-sayers - Here's a High Resolution Garden, I thought you may want to make stickers and modify your Carcassonne Tiles :)

Quizzes, Puzzles and Challenges / Guess Who?
« on: October 07, 2015, 02:24:44 AM »
Given Mastermind was working so well, I thought we could also play another childhood classic with a Carcassonne twist - 'Guess Who?'

The Rules are pretty simple - someone thinks of a tile (from the base game to begin with).

Players have to guess the tile, they may ask questions which can be answered with a 'Yes' or 'No' answer.

Here is an Example:

"Does it have a city?"  -  :(n)
"Does it have a junction?"   -  :(y)
"Is it FRRR?" -  :(n)
"Is it RRRR?" -  :(y)

The winner gets to chose the next tile.

You can review the tiles from the base game here: http://tehill.net/carcassonne/tiles/files.php

So to begin:  "I'm thinking of a tile....Guess who"

I thought it might be nice to list a few things from other publishers too:

DLP Games has announced 2 mini expansions + 1 large expansion for Orléans - The Invasion - http://www.dlp-games.de/content/startseite/

Castellion has also been announced -  https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/143404/castellion

General / Holiday purchases
« on: August 10, 2015, 12:13:28 PM »
I'm heading to the US for 10 days next month to visit a friend.  I'll probably be buying my weight in games to save on postage.

If anyone wants anything from meeplesource or elsewhere, I'll happily shove it in my suitcase and post it when I get back.

Let me know!

Intro
Unless you've been living in a cardboard box - you're probably aware that tomorrow is the start of GenCon. Gen Con is the original, longest-running, best-attended, gaming convention in the world!

When is it?
It runs from 30th July until the 2nd August, 2015.

GENCANT
Anyone who cannot attend, is implicitly a 'GenCanter'.

#GenCant was established in 2014 for those unable to attend GenCon - www.gencant.com

Contest
We're going to be running a small contest over the GenCon Period. The rules are quite simple:
  • Play a basic Carcassonne game, on your own (1-player)
  • Take a screenshot or photo at the end
  • Post it here in the forum with the result
Or post it on Twitter with the following on the end of the tweet:

#GenCantSoloCon #GenCant @carcassonne

You may:
Play a digital Carcassonne (like JCloisterZone) and take a screenshot OR you can play analogue Carcassonne and tally your score.

So long as it's the 72-tile Basic Carcassonne you're taking part in #GenCant!

What do I need?
JCloisterZone allows you to play 1-player Carcassonne.

If you need help getting JCloisterZone running, there's usually plenty of people in the #cc-league chatroom willing to help!

More Details
The Contest is now open, and will run until midnight 2nd August!
Enter as many times as you like!

How many points can you score?

General / Most loved....
« on: July 13, 2015, 03:12:16 AM »
What are your most loved Carcassonne possessions?

Is it that hard to acquire expansion signed by KJW, you picked up in a charity shop on your trip to outer-Mongolia, for threepence?

Or the unique handcrafted tableware, that another member lost their finger while constructing for you?

Photos please :)

General / Your Carcassonne Nightmares
« on: July 07, 2015, 02:32:52 PM »
So I was wondering the other day:  Would I play Death at Carcassonne?

Obviously I'm referring to the myth that you are able to challenge the personification of death (aka: the grim reaper) at a game in order to win your life.

Famously captured in the film "The Seventh Seal" where Death Plays Chess.

Given I don't know anyone who's come back from the dead and claimed to have found a game they won; I'm guessing Death's either a very good player or a subtle cheat.

Which leads me to my Subject - what would your Carcassonne Nightmare entail?

I'll start the ball rolling with some simple suggestions, but the more ironic the better  :(y):
  * That feeling you get when you realize your meeple is trapped for the duration of the game..but you're only 10 tiles into the game...then you realize your monk is trapped too.
  * Your Carcassonne Collection has been eaten by termites.
  * Discovering your complete Carcassonne collection is in fact missing an obscure long out of print, mini-expansion that was only given to people with the same name as you; that attended a Bakery in Essen at 8am; 2 years before you were born.
  * Drawing all the RFRF tiles sequentially;
  * Realizing although there's a thousand places to put the fffc tile at the end of the game, none of the are going to let you win
  * Still having 6 meeple in your hand when you place your last tile
  * You opponent's ability to draw precisely the tile they need immediately after you required them to need it.

News and Events / Welcome Tournament
« on: July 03, 2015, 07:44:13 AM »
Sorry for the spam. I'd like to put a post here so that anyone passing through who isn't logged in can see the news on the Recent Posts section on the main page.

Carcassonne Central will be holding a 'Welcome' tournament very soon to encourage new members to join the forum and get used to playing online and arranging challenges.  The only caveat for joining is that you have not played in a tournament here before.  If you're not a member of the forum you can sign up and get some more information from the League Forum:

I'd like to propose a new 'welcome' tournament for players who are new to the forum and have not entered a tournament here on Carcassonne Central before.

I think it's a good way for new members to learn the ropes and get used to scheduling games and learning to use JCloisterZone.

I'd like to get an idea how many people would be interested in taking part and I'm very open to suggestions.

The format will be dependent on the number of players.  Possibly a simple knock-out with a Repêchage; maybe 3/4-player games; maybe groups like the expansion leagues are played.

I suspect we will focus on the basic-game, but maybe include 1-small expansion or mini-expansion (again I'm open to ideas).

Currently the only entry requirement is that you have NOT entered a tournament or league on Carcassonne Central before.

Let me know below, if you're interested!

The tournament has started!

Riding on the success of the UK Championships, some of us thought it would be a nice idea to organize a Carcassonne Central Meetup Event (CCME for short)

It's all pretty simple:

1) See who wants to come.
2) Organize/Pick a date (probably a Saturday) most of us can make.
3) Find a venue which is reasonable for us all to get to.
4) Turn up and play Carcassonne all day.
5) Cake?
6) Beer?

The Date is Confirmed:   31st October - Shadow Games - http://www.shadow-games.co.uk

Rugby  10am - 5pm

Confirmed Attendees:  Me, Dan, Curt, Rich The Fish, Piklach, JT Atomico

Basically Wooden will be attending the meetup - http://www.basicallywooden.co.uk
They're bringing prototypes and if you're thinking about placing an order you might be able to pick it up there and save on postage :)

Check the Poster Out below!

The cheapest place to park for the day is opposite the council house on Evreux Way, Rugby CV21 2DT. It is about £3.50 a day and is open for 24 hours. Failing that then I would use the John Barford car park, CV21 2SL which is £5 for up to 11 hours. Both of these are less than a five minute walk to the shop.

ORIGINAL POST - please ignore
I've picked 3-semi random dates later this year, at different times during the month; so maybe people can let us know if they would like to come & if they can make any of these dates:
  • 26th September 2015
Danisthirty, Decar, JT Atomico, Koremu, Curt
  • 17th October 2015
Danisthirty, Decar, JT Atomico, Koremu, Curt
  • 7th November 2015
Danisthirty, Decar, JT Atomico, Koremu, Curt

Possible Alternative Date:

August (28-29) - Jungleboy

I'm open to suggestions too; but trying to keep it simple for now.

Decar - Cardiff
Danisthirty - Reading
JT Atomico - London
Curt - London/Cambridge
Koremu - West Yorkshire
Rosco - Cumbria

- Current Mid Point
