as I understand the S-CAR

Q1: How many points does a castle score when a farm is connected to a barn? See illustration below. The rules says "...1 point for every completed city..." - technically, I guess, a castle is not a city, so does that mean it is worth 0 points?

A Barn barn would score 4 points / completed city               5 points / castle

Q2: Same as Q1 but with a pig involved. See illustration below.

The pig should have been removed along with the farmers when the Barn was placed so it does not score in conjunction with a barn

Q3: What if the castle has not been completed?

A castle is a one tile/token structure so it can never be incomplete

I still have a stack of duplicate game tiles to work through first, but my own  expansions are around 60 tiles each at present so I am getting through them.  I even bought a copy of Carcassonne II to use as I was doing my own start tile based expansion and needed the darker backs.

Thanks for confirming this, the Z-Man north american site has them for sale and I just wanted to be sure of the surface of the tiles.   :(y)

Do the blank Carcassonne tiles have the same linen cloth type finish as the standard printed ones?

I find the linen finish on the standard tiles to be very durable and it allows you to remove and replace custom label printed tiles with ease.

thanks

Will these tiles match Carcassonne's.  :)

I doubt it, these days even Carcassonne tiles don't match Carcassonne tiles.

It occurs to me that the tile with a single city and 4 pennant gates could function as an alternative to the Abbey tiles. I could terminate everything except an open city and would be more visually consistent and it would be a regular draw tile.  Perhaps several of them could be mixed in with the base deck and other expansions.

Having compared the official German text (through Google translate) with the english language version it is obvious that the english text is for an earlier version that was meant exclusively for posting on Carcassonne Central.  This explains the differences.

It still gives a much better explanation of the functionality of the expansion so again thanks for posting it.

I added it to Downloads section on this forum.

Thanks for posting the translation.  Much clearer to understand.

Just a typo in the opening paragraph, chopper is used instead of copper.

There is also a mention of four of the tiles with yellow and red banners from a Families Expansion.  I cannot make out which tiles these ones are.

The tile examples in the document do not have any banners at all, presumably they are from draft versions of the tiles before the banners were added.

Apologies if I am being too fussy.

again thanks for taking the effort to post the english language version on this forum..

Take a look at reply 42 for a rough english translation.

Unfortunately I do not have an ID on that particular forum, unless you are referring to 42 as some sort of answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything

I am somewhat surprised that no english language translation appears to be available on this site.

Also from what I can gather by using google translate it seems that these new gates can connect to just about any other tile; city gate, road or field.  Doesn't this undermine one of the basic principals of the game where matching tile edges gives the game most of its challenge when placing tiles?

I can understand introducing one or two of these tiles as a wild-card option, but 24 of these tiles seems too many.

Am I missing something here, perhaps if someone can post a more correct translation on this site it would help.

Just wondering, since the castles are to be played and scored like Cloisters would it not have made more sense to place the German/ Dutch monasteries on double tiles?

With the lack of any future direction from HiG on product development (aside from a veiled hint from kettlefish which seemed to imply a reprint of perhaps the tunnels) one is forced to scour the byways of the internet highway for possible clues.

Z-man games website shows that most of the Carcassonne original expansions (Inns, Traders, Princess,Abbey) are out out of stock.  That of itself does not tell much but the only 2 items which are out of stock but are flagged as being reprinted are Carcassonne 2 and Carcassonne Big Box 5.  This could indicate that the big box route is the only way to pick up those expansions and even then you will only get Inns and Traders plus the long out of print Wheel.

Official Rules / Re: Abbot / Mayor / Wagon and Tower

I completely agree with Obervet based on the existing rules and current published game range.

However with the river (3?) in the big box 5 now sprouting sheep and vineyards it is possible that, with the ruling that Abbots can go on towers, HiG may be tipping their hand and they in fact plan to produce tiles with gardens and tower foundations within the gardens  - the joys of what we may have to look forward to in Carcassonne 2.
