I recently got a copy of the School, and liked the plastic meeple. Specifically, the one I got seems to be clear, unless looked at from the side. I don't have a copy of 'The Phantom', but am I right in reading that The Phantom had meeples like this as well?

The phantoms are totally plastic colored from all sides and not just 1.

The Phantom's meeples appear to be painted on all sides or are dyed plastic. The School's meeple is thicker than The Phantom's and only one side, if any, is painted, giving it more of a clear look. It's possible they made straight-up clear versions, too.

The School meeples (Teachers) are made of clear translucent plastic and painted on their edges, or sides, in the various colors. The front and back are clear. They are thicker than Phantom meeples.

Phantom meeples are made of colorized translucent plastic in the various colors, unpainted.

Thanks guys! I was thinking about getting the Phantom, but read somewhere that it couldn't be done with the school because of the coloring.

Looks like I may pick it up and then give it a shot, without the school, since they do look *quite* similar!

Just buy a different meeple for the school. I have a pink lady meeple for my school. Therefore no confusion

Another option is the completely clear meeples, as sold by the Carcassonne Shoppe, and nail polish.

That is what we did for one phantom - we purchased as set of phantom meeples, but red was out of stock, so I also ordered a set of clear meeples. My partner had some red nail polish, which she used on one side. Looks very good - maybe not as nice as a true red meeple, but very good.
