The tile that wolnic posted (the first one) is actually quite nice! I like the yin-yang visual.

Great tile! Like an updated version of the original Inns & Cathedrals CRCR tile, which we always play as a single road.

But what I was actually thinking of would be a bit different, because I want the farm between the two separate cities on the CCRR tile to be isolated from the corner between the two roads. So you could put a farmer on the tiny patch of grass with a maximum possible score of 6. It wouldn't make sense to have a tiny farm where you have a well on the CRCR tile, because then the roads would enter each city twice.

Right. Like the original CRCR tile in I&C. Agree this is awful. I don't have CC1 but would definitely play that as a single road.

I agree with the "visual game" rule, but also want some (not too many) realism constraints.

Also, as I was thinking about this today, I wondered whether there are any tiles with a single road segment, so you could place and score a farmer for 1 point in a turn? I think a CCFF tile with separate city segments and a single short road connecting them would be cool. Could place a farmer (between road and cities for max score 6, or outside the road for a potentially bigger farm) or a thief for an immediate score of 1!

Yesterday I used the C1 version of Princess & Dragon for the first time since I've started playing Carcassonne. Oh the horror...

The C2 version of this tile is also ugly but is definitely less ugly and, in fact, never hurt my eyes before:

Old art = darmstadtium

New art = the sign post tile with the bridge over the city. All the sign posts tiles are ugly.

Can't argue about the signposts, but a lesser known fact about the darmstadtium is that it is built around a medieval fortification (which you can see in the tile), so it is not simply a modern building in Carcassonne. Maybe this will ease your dislike.

I didn't know that.

To be honest, when I first saw the tile I thought it was a sled carrying rocks. I didn't know it was a real building until I read about it.

BBG, In the game's defense the City Gates tiles were produced as a print and play by a fan and selected by HiG to be published on their website as a fan-expansion.

Bazaar. Auctions makes the game much longer and they are not suitable for this game.
Also, the official rules of the bazaar is just so bad. Auctions meant to counter the randomness of drawing tiles but it ends up giving great advantages to the player who pick the tiles first.

I would be able to overlook how ugly the cCCF princess tile is if it had been a mirror image (CCcF) to complement the cCCF tile of I&C.
