I suggest that players are online uses the _ as prefix of his/her nickname

If you type the nickname of someone else in the chat room and then press enter (or just include their name anywhere in a message) it will play a sound at their end which may help to summon them back to life if they appear to be away.

iRC is so good, you can ask it how long a person has been idle.

I think forumisto was talking about the JCZ chat. I'm not sure there is a chat in the server-game lobby. Perhaps it could point to #cc-league.
