Prehistory: For my annual tournament with expansions I have taken from local distributor some basic sets. This time they (sets) were messed up, and they offered to me to do the job: make all sets as complete as possible. It took me 2 complete evenings to sort everything out, and I was able to create 23 complete sets, with many-many spare tile left. For such a job they gave me a 45 EUR gift card! Very generous! Now, on topic: also they gave me unneeded expansion German Castles, which spend some time on sun with one corner. This created an interesting effect - ugly green became comfortable green! Just curious - is it possible to fix all other ugly green tiles? What do you think? Worth a try?

I have been asked by TheSteveAllen to post this on his behalf, as he is of the firm belief that it will attract more attention and support if it were to be posted by an global moderator, rather than an ordinary member Over that last couple of weeks, since being tragically 'ousted' from the Carcassonne Central World Cup, I have been enthusiastically testing the playing set-ups for the Quarter Final, Semi-Final and Final stages of the competition along with other friends on this forum who have also shown that they have an interest in trying them out. As a result of these matches, I have decided to come up for a special competition for us 'Also-rans' so that we can enjoy the benefits of the contest without having to worry too much about the results. The idea is that anyone who completed the group stages of the competition (15 of us, I believe), should be allowed to enter this follow-up tournament with the game configurations being played by those who qualified. Participants will be given a set of 'fixtures' which they can play, possibly 5 each, to be completed at the same time as the 'real' final match. An independent arbitrator (possibly MrNumbers) will create this fixture list, which will be a list of opponents and game configurations e.g. Thodekey v Halfling (SF configuration). Participants will then play as many of their fixtures as possible until the 'real' tournament ends. Points will be awarded as per the scores plus 30 points for a win, e.g. Thodekey 245 : Halfling 270 scores 245 points to Thodekey and 270 points against, with 300 points to Halfling and 245 points against. The league table will be in Points difference order eg. Halfling has 55 points, Thodekey has -25 points from this fixture. This is designed to encourage games to be played, with the winner uncertain until the very last fixture. Exact details are still to be clarified, but could you please reply to this post if you would like to participate. A further bonus, is that we will also be playtesting for Farin at the same time, which helps us all.

Here are the fixtures for the Quarterfinal of the 2017 World Cup. This year I have changed the format a little bit to avoid the situation, in which players could possibly play each other again in semifinal. This known problem was already discussed once. Here are expansions that will be used during this final round. I have made some minor changes from last year (excluded Wind Roses completely, excluded A&M from final game etc.). QF:Traders and Builders + Abbey and Mayor + The Corn Circles + The Count of Carcassonne + GQ11 + The Phantom = 123 tiles (starting tile and 2 tiles from GQ11 are excluded). GQ11 option "The Pig herd is present on the farm tile" is ON. SF:Inns and Cathedrals + The Tower + The Festival + The Goldmines + The German Monasteries + Mage and Witch = 134 tiles (cloisters from the base game have to be removed). Final:Traders and Builders + The Princess and The Dragon + Bridges, Castles and Bazaars + The River II + The Besiegers + The Flier + The Phantom = 163 tiles (starting tile is excluded). Please, make appointments and play your games! Good luck to everyone!

I didn't do a research, how rare Abbey & Mayor in old edition is, but our FLGS has some 5 copies of it. Price is 15 EUR. If someone is interested, I could help with delivery (of course, postage costs will make the price bigger).

This weekend our biggest board games distributor Brain Games is organizing first board game festival in Baltics, called BaltiCon. If you like, you can read about it on the official homepage (information is available also in English). It could be called micro-Spiel Brain Games asked me if I would like to organize some Carcassonne tournament. I agreed, but instead of my usual tournament (with expansions) or simple base game tournament I chose to run the first Carcassonne spin-off tournament. I have 12 spin-offs, so it gives me 12 tables and maximum of 24 participants. Format is similar to my usual tournament (and our World Cup format), with only exception how to calculate tie-breaks in group stage. Tournament will run this Sunday, 26.11, I will publish some reports and links afterwards

Hi guys! Another year passed by and I am sure you are ready for another challenge, which is know as The World Cup of Carcassonne Central, 2017 edition. Previous World Cups were hosted by Danisthirty, but I always was "behind the curtain", so the fact that I am hosting it now doesn't change much For whose, who isn't familiar with the format, please, check out 2014, 2015 and 2016 World Cups. Like in previous years, competition will consist of a group stage, followed by a knock-out stage with the top 2 players from each group qualifying to quarterfinals, winners advance to semifinal and the most experienced ones will play in Grand Finale! A lot will depend on how many people will be taking part, but be sure you'll see Inns & Cathedrals, Traders & Builders, Princess & Dragon, The Tower, Abbey & Mayor, Bridges, Castle & Bazaars, River 1 & 2 and most of the mini-expansions supported by the current version of JCloisterZone occurring at least once each! Stay tuned for more specific information. One thing I want to change (as much as it is possible) is following the terms, which will be given for playing your games. I already had made some difficult decisions about disqualifications and forfeiting games in the past and World Cup won't be an exception. Of course, everyone of us could have some force majeure and it is totally understandable, but you need to be at least in contact with your opponent or me, so we could find a solution together. Long story short, if you feel you won't be able to play all your games till the end of the competition, think twice before applying to World Cup 2017 And, of course, make sure you have read our "Unwritten rules" - Code of Conduct and are prepared to stick to it as closely as possible. We had 40 participants in 2015 (unbeaten record), so why can't we beat it this year? One more thing - I have some prizes to choose from, so be sure your win won't stay unnoticed Maybe even, prizes won't be for the first place only... Needless to say - I’m in! [almost] All group games are complete, and we have to play the final round! Previously, after one player's proposal, I stated that during final round we will have 3 groups of 6 players each. But given the current situation with lack of players in some groups and other considerations, I decided to return to previous scheme, when each group's players play with their opponents from other groups with same finishing position. So, we will have 6 groups with 3 players each, except one group. F6 group has only one player since other two players left/disqualified from the tournament. That is why Rosco automatically gets 16th place from 18 players. Everyone else must play exactly 2 games (with other players from his group) and it will determine the final rankings. Many of you know that I organize regular Carcassonne public game nights as well as annual tournaments with expansions. Also some of you know, that my second favorite game is Ticket to Ride. Then an idea came to my mind: why I can't organize also Ticket to Ride game nights? I have almost all expansion maps, I can use the same place, all I have to do is to arrange base game sets from local distributor (which differs from Carcassonne distributor). In November, 2016 on one of the Carcassonne game nights I shared this idea with community, and they took it very positively, one of them even wanted to help me with organization. I had a meeting with TtR local distributor and their representative was very nice and forthcoming: he gave me 2 USA sets, 2 Europe sets and 1 Rails&Sails set for my game nights. In January I had first game night, we had 30 people and 16 games! In February we had even more - 34 people! This is more than my Carcassonne events attendance! Since then I have two regular monthly public events - Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride game nights. In April I had a message from Latvian Railway Museum, which offered their place for tournament organization, with no rent fee. Is there any better place for such tournament?! This will be the first tournament with expansions, not only USA and Europe, I will use all available maps. Also I developed special tournament format, which is fair using different expansion maps. So the TtR tournament is scheduled to the end of August in this venue, but the final games will be held inside the real restored 1920's carriage (dark green on the website). If, by the chance, you are interested in taking part - you are welcome! Of course, I will publish a full photo-report after the event. P.S. Forgot to mention the prizes: 1st place receives Ticket to Ride Rails&Sails (~80 EUR worth), 2nd - 50 EUR gift card to a boardgame shop, 3rd - 30 EUR gift card. Plus some prizes from Railway museum, for example, a ride with a handcar

Ice Cool is dexterity game, which is made, designed and produced in Latvia, by local distributor "Brain Games" (which is also Carcassonne official distributor and supports me on my Carcassonne events). This game received "Kinderspiel des Jahres" just two days ago. Haven't played it myself, but overall feedback is very good. I am very happy and proud for the guys from "Brain Games"!

If you are new to the competitions, please, carefully read the following tournament notes/guidance/rules before continuing. If you already participated in some Carcassonne Central competitions before, the following rules are pretty much the same as always, except final stage (points 9-10). Let's try this format this time and see how it goes. 1. Players have already been divided into three different groups (Fliers, Goldminers, Wizards). Each player will play one game of Carcassonne against every other player in their group individually via a series of 2-player/ head-to-head games. The winner of each game will be awarded two league points whereas the loser gets nothing. If the game is tied, both players receive one league point each. 2. Players in each group will be ranked according to the number of league points they have scored. PD (Points Differential) will be used as an initial tie-breaker if there is no clear winner based on league points alone, and total combined score (from all games) will be used as a second tie-breaker if necessary. Your PD is calculated by taking the total number of points scored by you and subtracting the total number of points scored against you (combined across all games). 3. Games will be played online through the latest stable version of JCloisterZone (currently 3.4.3). Please ensure you have downloaded this and are familiar with its controls and features before the competition begins. It is also recommended that you have played at least one practice game against a live opponent in order to identify and resolve any technical problems before your first game. 4. JCloisterZone includes a number of artificial aids such as farm hints, projected scores and even tile-counting assistance. We all are busy people, and time is valuable for all of us. Many players spend decent amount of time anyway to count points for farms and uncompleted features, so with the purpose of speeding up our games, I allow to use "projected scores" feature. Other aids are still prohibited. I can't stop you from using them anyway, and won't know if you do, but I do urge you to play as fair as possible. I know it's a competition and we all want to win, but let's keep it fair, fun and friendly as far as possible... 5. Each game will include the basic tiles plus four expansions: Flier, Goldmines, Mage & Witch and Crop Circles. This is 102 tiles including the start tile, so 101 tile will be shuffled and randomly drawn for you and your opponent in turn. The starting player should be chosen at random through JCZ by selecting the "Randomize seating order" checkbox on the pre-game screen. 6. If any unexpected behaviour occurs during your game (for example if you think you have discovered a bug within JCloisterZone which may have altered the course of the game for you), please consult with your opponent and the CAR/ anyone else who happens to be in the chat room at the time to determine whether it appears to be a genuine bug. If it is, please save your game and post details of the bug along with anything else relating to how it came about on the forums. If however, you and your opponent are both happy to continue with your game despite the bug then feel free to do so, but don’t forget to mention the bug afterwards no matter how minor it may have seemed! 7. Please post a screenshot of your game, including final scores and score breakdown, back to your group thread as soon as your game is complete. It's always interesting to hear what happened during the game too, so please feel free to post any thoughts/ comments at the same time if you wish. If you're not sure how to capture/ post screenshots, please ask on the forums and either myself or someone else will explain how to do this (we're a friendly bunch!) 8. It is the players responsibility to liaise with their fellow group-members in order to find a mutually convenient time to play their game. This is expected to be done predominantly through Private Messages but feel free to use your group thread (here) too if this is easier. Please do keep any appointments you make, or at least give your opponent as much notice as possible if something occurs which prevents you from playing at the agreed time (more on the "Unwritten Rules" is available here). 9. Each of the 3 initial groups contains 6 players so the first stage of the competition will end when every player (all 18 of us) has played 5 games. At this point, the pool will split again into 3 groups of 6 depending on finishing position in the initial groups. So, the 2 top-ranked players from groups will form group F1, those who came 3rd and 4th in each group will form group F2, and 5th and 6th - group F3. 10. Play in groups F1 to F3 will constitute the second stage of the competition which will run in the same way as the first. League points, PD and total score will be reset at this point (but remembered for overall stats) so that no single player in any group has any kind of advantage. Finishing positions in groups at the second stage will determine overall rank: 1st=F1-1, 2nd=F1-2, 3rd=F1-3, 4th=F1-4, 5th=F1-5, ..., 15th=F3-3, 16th=F3-4, 17th=F3-5, 18th=F3-6. Finally, you may find the following links helpful: Carcassonne Central IRC Chat and JCloisterZone. Good luck everyone!
