General / Tile reference tool on Wikicarpedia
« on: March 20, 2023, 11:40:04 AM »
I noticed in the homepage there are 3 different points of access for this magnificient lifesaver of a tool, one for every edition, but they all bring to the exact same form, with the only difference being the fact that one of the versions is already selected in the "Filters" tab, and it's unselectable.

Why just not providing one single link instead of three, and let the people select what they want on the spot? I personally find the pre-selection useful but also annoying in soem cases and it would be more friendly to new users. Basically what I'm proposing is to change the homepage link to this

and open the selector form always like this

and let the user select what he wants. I hope I explained myself good. What do you think?

Reviews & Session Reports / One of our craziest openings ever
« on: March 18, 2023, 04:30:05 PM »
Game started and a huge, stubborn war for a road immediately broke out, helped by bridges and flying machines.

In the end, Red :red-meeple: and Black :black1-meeple: tied, 15 points each so there were no winners and no losers, and the battle moved to the nearest growing city...

On a serious note, happenings like this increasingly convince me that street segments should be counted, not tiles.

This was also the first time we tried out a new way to manage baazars in 2-players game:
  • Player A draws a bazaar tile, he completes his turn normally, then draws another tile keeping it face down
  • Player B also draws a tile, also keeping it face down
  • Player A can either play the newly drawn tile or decide to switch tiles with Player B
  • Player B has the ability to block the switch by paying 4 points
It worked well, way better than our previous method, involving a Whatsapp chat, well timed bidding and convoluted subrules in case of identical offers ;D

In the end, a very funny game. Final result: Black :black1-meeple: 144 - 114 :red-meeple: Red

General / The Phantom on Wikicarpedia
« on: March 12, 2023, 04:49:29 AM »
Since The Phantom is "the only expansion to date that is completely edition independent", shouldn't the page title be just "The Phantom" instead of "The Phantom (1st edition)"?

Also, wouldn't it be better for the table row dedicated to it in the main page table to be one single cell with the text "C1 & C2 & C3 rules" on it?

Currently it's like this:

and at first glance it may give away the idea that can be used only with C1 (I know version can be mixed together in a game but you get what I mean).

Official Rules / A normal meeple and an abbot on the same monastery
« on: March 12, 2023, 04:00:23 AM »
This is a re-creation of a scenario that happened last night during a game.

Blue :blue-meeple: throws the dice and gets 1, so his abbot flies on the monastery that is already occupied by the blue meeple. Now my question: can the two figures be treated separately, that is, for example, by removing the abbot first, getting points for it, and then getting point for the monastery again when it gets completed (since the blue normal meeple is still on it)? I expect the answer to be YES since I can't find anything in the rules telling me otherwise but we'd like to be certain

In the actual game, both the abbot and the normal meeple remained on the monastery until this got completed, so Blue :blue-meeple: got 18 points. I expect this to be also a legal outcome.

Last doubt: can ANOTHER figure (from the same player or another) be placed on the same monastery by using another flying machine? Is there a limit on how many figures can stay on the same feature/tile?

General / City wall pieces: is this a horrible idea?
« on: March 10, 2023, 07:19:48 AM »
So I was tinkering with my 3D printer and I tried to create a piece to implement a game mechanic I wish to test since the day I started playing Carcassonne. Basically, it's simply a piece of wall (similar to the ones included in the spin-off "The City", but smaller), like this:

*

and basically you can use it to "close" a side of a city, similarly to what an Abbey does, but only for one side. The piece would be placed over the edge of a tile (only on a field). A player would NOT be allowed to use it to completely close a city.

This is not even my original idea but something very close to it and maybe more doable. Would something like this work? Has something similar (or identical!) already been done? What do you think about it?

* This model was created by manipulating the file "Straight_Bridge_v1.stl" made available by user Meepledrone in another thread.

General / Is it possible to check if a certain, specific tile exist?
« on: March 06, 2023, 10:36:57 AM »
The Tile Reference tool on Wikicarpedia is beautiful and I want to marry it. But I was wondering if there's an "official" way to make the opposite kind of search, that is check if a certain tile exist somewhere, including all existing expansions.
Example. We were playing a game and we got curious whether a CCCC tile with a monastery in the middle exists. What I did:
  • 1 go to the Tile Reference tool
  • 2 check all the selectors for each and every expansion from every version of the game (840 tiles returned)
  • 3 refine the search by removing all features I didn't care about and selecting "All features required" (58 tiles remaining)
  • 4 Ctrl+F "CCCC"
  • 5 check visually if that specific tile exists (it doesn't)
Considering I can merge steps 2 and 3, is there a "better" way to do all this? My laptop is very old and it was overheating when I was selecting all those options  :))

General / Weird thing while registering
« on: February 16, 2023, 07:23:39 AM »
I was registering and in the "additional information" form I was asked for my location, my gender and... C2 art style? Maybe it is an error?

Official Rules / Can bridges be placed towards abbeys?
« on: February 16, 2023, 07:21:35 AM »
The general question is: can bridges be placed towards abbeys?

Specific case that triggered the doubt is the scenario below: can the tile indicated by the arrow be placed there, and then a curved bridge be placed on the tile above, towards the pre-existing abbey? Also the bridge on the right: could it be placed there?
