We played our challenge match this evening and after a promising start (for me) it went downhill after that with the final score being 2 games to 1 in MrNumbers' favour!

Game 1 (started by danisthirty)
:blue-meeple: danisthirty 116 : 100 MrNumbers :red-meeple:

MrNumbers made a costly mistake in this game where he failed to notice that a field he was aggressively adding farmers to wasn't connected to the main farm where all the points (and my farmers) were. He spotted this once I'd gone to the trouble of making a hole where he needed a joining tile to be, but with 3 farmers already committed to the smaller farm there was no way back by then. Even so, it wasn't an easy win by any stretch of the imagination and the fact that there were only 16 points between us at the end of the game just goes to show how many points MrNumbers was able to generate elsewhere! :(y)

Game 2 (started by MrNumbers)
:red-meeple: MrNumbers 96 : 93 danisthirty :blue-meeple:

This game seemed like it was going to end in the same way as the first. I enjoyed my fair share of luck, but MrNumbers took a risk to win a nice city outright which left him waiting for the last cccr and also a cfcf to complete his city (and adjacent cloister). The game was turned on its head somewhat when he then drew both of the tiles he needed one after another! With a few more meeples back in hand and a big points boost MrNumbers secured the win thanks to the completion of another city (where he needed, and drew the final crrr) and a few small farms dotted around. I had felt I was going to win this one, but after his mistake in the first game this felt like some sort of karmic realignment...

Game 3 (started by MrNumbers)
:red-meeple: MrNumbers 78 : 61 danisthirty :blue-meeple:

This was a dreadful game for me! I just didn't seem to be able to close anything and had rather a frustrating time of it seeing MrNumbers getting all the tiles I wanted so badly! Desperation got the better of me towards the end, and after placing my last meeple on a farm which I never managed to join to the more valuable farm next door, all I could do was sit back and watch MrNumbers increase his score whilst swearing at the curtains. >:(

Congratulations on your wins MrNumbers! I'll be back again next month I'm sure... :)

Since it's just Jere and I, I am challenging him to a challenge match!

Two great games, and both very close! My drawing the final fffr cloister tile in the first game allowed me to clinch it by winning the main 24-point farm outright; robbing Jéré of a small farm of his own and taking 8 points for the cloister in the process.

Jéré didn't manage his meeples as carefully as he normally does in our second game and after a couple of risks didn't pay off he got himself into the tricky situation of having no meeples left to play with! :( He had some good points on the board though, and left me with a bit of a mountain to climb to take the win. Again, I drew a tile I needed in the end - the final rrrf (after Jéré had drawn the first 3 of them >:() - and merged the two farms to take overall control of both. Very low-scoring for both of us, but in the end I had enough points to win the challenge match 2 - 0! 8)

Thanks for the games Jeremie. It's rare enough that I beat you at all, so to win 2 games in a row was something special for me against my #1 Carcassonne nemesis! ;) :(y) :(y)
