Hi Gang just wanted to share this sweet find.

It is the German edition and I have already found and printed English rules. Funny enough I was strongly looking at picking this reprinted title recently and am glad I held off. The copy is unplayed and unpunched. Has anyone played this and have opinion on it?

Today was an exceptional day I also Thifted a German copy of, The End of the Triumvirate. Another title with good ratings. Again I was able to sort out the rules and other translated bits, (also looks unplayed).

Someone must have unloaded their Euro collection because at this same location today was all of the following:

Catan 3rd Edition
Catan Cities and Knights 3rd Edition
Catan Seafareres 3rd Edition
Catan Fisherman (mini expansion in shrink in the Seafarers box.)
Catan The Great River (mini expansion in shrink in the Seafarers box.)
Catan Seafarers 3rd Edition 5/6 player
Catan 4th Edition
Catan Cities and Knights 4th Edition
Catan Cities and Knights 5/6 PLAYER 4th Edition

The price of this altogether was far less than what you would pay now for the New Catan.

Finding this all at once is a rare find - thankfully  ;)

I think I've asked this before but any thrifters out there? Any good finds lately?

If you do Thrift I hope your wife is as patient as mine. You might either be amazed or horrified by the collection in my basement  :o

General / Music and Carcassonne

What music do you listen to when playing Carcassonne?

Not sure if this has been discussed at any length previously. I couldn’t find a reference on a quick search. If so, apologies in advance.

This idea came up as I was looking at Paul’s recent post for Videos related to Carcassonne.

http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2420.msg34432;topicseen#new

While I was searching for something to possibly post there, (didn’t really find something I thought was adequate), there was a search suggestion for, Board game music – Carcassonne. This got me thinking, what do people listen to when playing Carcassonne at home?

Do you play theme music like the following selection from youtube? Do you listen to other period music or is it heavy metal all the way?  O0

If you listen to theme music, what would you recommend?

We don’t play theme music and just enjoy what we like to listen to. Our taste is towards American contemporary Folk music like, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Chris Issak and Shawn Colvin. We do listen to a fair amount of Irish / Celtic /Newfie music (my wife is from Newfoundland) which seems to fit the mood quite well.

Though we might just give this selection a try, in the background, next time we play.

General / Thrifting and my first find of Carcassonne
« on: June 20, 2015, 09:58:32 AM »
Two parts to this tale:

I am very happy to have finally found a Thrift copy of Carcassonne for $2, CND this week.

It was the RGG 3rd English edition, without the river. The box is in perfect shape and tiles were punched but it looks unplayed.

This is the exact same copy of my original first new purchase. That copy for us has seen about 350 plays so I plan to replace those very (nicely) worn tiles with this, thrift copy.  I am a little torn on this because even though those tiles are fading I have enjoyed every moment of play.

Have you ever thrifted a copy of Carc? What have you done with that copy? Do you actively Thrift?

I frequent the BGG Thrift thread and got the Thrift bug after my first good score, and have been actively looking for about 3 years. One of my first was a complete copy Starfarers Catan, $2.50. I have gone onto find some other good titles most of which were complete and in very good condition.

2 complete copies of Small World, one in shrink
Pandemic, New Edition
Conquest of Empire, 1984 edition
Squad Leader and Various other wargames
Several copies of Heroscape
Scotland Yard, HeroQuest
Several Gigamic abstracts
Settlers of Catan (3rd edition)
Lost Cities, Red November, Fortress America
Shogun, New World, Guillotine and more

Do you have any top finds?

Cheers,
