CC-MasterMind-Landscape 3x3-tiles - riddle 2
« on: June 25, 2017, 12:46:41 AM »
I've created a small landscape with 9 landscape tiles = 3 x 3 tiles. The tiles are placed according the rules, but the start tile is not a necessary component of this landscape. Each tile is different.

The base game has 72 tiles total - but there are only 24 tiles which are different.
The landscape has 9 different tiles (3x3tiles) - placement like the regular Carcassonne rules.

The tile list at HiG will help you - new Edition: CCII-base game - tiles . The small pictures onto the tiles like farm, garden, etc. have no effect.
You can also look at the tile list for the classical edition CCI-base game - tiles.

You can place the real tiles and take a photo or you can use the files in the following link.

I've in the attachments are some examples from the last riddle.

This is the following CC-MasterMind riddle: Which tiles I have choosen and how I placed them for the 3x3-tile landscape?

There are 3 rows (1, 2, 3) and 3 columns (A, B, c)

example:
If the start tile is placed in the middle of my mini landscape (name of the tile "D") , then it has the position: 2B (2.row and column B).

Some tiles have more than only one meeple (examples  :orange-meeple:+ :blue-meeple:  or  :yellow-meeple:+ :blue-meeple:+ :orange-meeple:  or  :black1-meeple:+ :violet-meeple:)

The following Meeple will show you the result of your guesses:
green   :green-meeple: - right tile - in correct row, column and orientation
red  :red-meeple: - wrong tile
violet    :violet-meeple: - right tile - wrong column and wrong row
blue  :blue-meeple: - right tile - in correct column
yellow    :yellow-meeple: - right tile - in correct row
black  :black1-meeple: - right tile - in correct orientation
orange   :orange-meeple: - right tile - in wrong orientation

row 3: 3x :red-meeple:
column A, B, C:  2x :red-meeple:

Something I am not clear on: Do you clues count the same meeple twice?

I know column A,B,C must have at least 3 red meeple because row 3 does.

Can I assume the 2-red meeple are 2 different red meeple or are you allowed to count the same meeple twice?

The information "row 3: 3 :red-meeple:" is a nice help - so here yes it is twice.

I'm not sure if these are useful to you for future games; I made some icons.  I think many players do not understand what orange or black or blue meeple are.  Also it is hard for colour-blind players.

row 3 - has 3 tiles in the correct column, as such I must know the 3 tiles need to be rotated:

RFCR and only join FCCC in two ways, and the current way is wrong.
I also know the the RRRF tile is oriented wrong, so it must be a road facing upward:

So the bottom row must look something like this:

I know the second Row has 1 incorrect tile, and 2 tiles in the right row and the correct orientation.
So essentially, only the columns are wrong.

Well that doesn't make sense.

The FFFF tile must be wrong it cant fit now.  Neither can the FFFR tile, unless it rotates and goes on the end.
The RRCC tile could be rotated, unless it's already correct.
If it's rotated only a XCRF tile will fit, that tile is in the row below and in use.

So there's a combination of incomplete or contradictory meeple.  Or I'm playing a different game.

Either way here's my complete guess:

Sticking my tuppence-worth in ...

From the first proposal, you know that you can exclude the bottom three tiles from the solution, and that one of the remaining tiles in each column is "in", and the other "out". But you can't tell which. I don't think it matters at this early stage about the alignment, or valid column/row status. But it will be useful later once you've identified the 9 actual tiles that make up the puzzle.

From the second proposal, you've eliminated three more tiles (top row) but also identified three definite tiles (bottom row) that are in the solution. You also know some info about the three tiles in the middle row, as a couple of these were used in the first proposal. And that one of the three is not in the solution.

So at this stage we have three definites, 3 more from 6 possibles (first entry) and 2 from 3 from the second entry. And 6 eliminated for sure.

For a third guess I think I'd probably try to use tiles where we don't know anything at this point. I'm actually hoping to get a number of reds, and maybe from the feedback from kettlefish, identify a few more tiles we know are in.

You may have noticed that kettlefish doesn't provide ALL the matches, leaving out, for example, all the column info from the second guess, or how many red there were in rows 1 and 2 in the first guess - we know that there should be three. I assume it would make it too easy if she did!

So here's what I'd try ...
AutumnForest (C2), Catch Of The Day (C1/2/WD), Cliffs&W'falls (C1/2), Coast (C1/2), FishHuts (C2), Fluvium (C2), NewForest (C2), Harvest (C1/2), Stone Circles (C1/2), Wells (C2), Jordan River 2 (AotC), River I/II (GR)
Devt: Sakura (C2), WinterEdge (C1), WinterCoast (WD/WE) and others

Hi Decar,
here is the result for the 3rd guess.
The 3 tiles in your row 3 are not all in row 3 in my riddle, but the tiles are in the correct column (A,B,C).

See the attachment.
