The webpage says that The Falcons releases on 27 April. Also, where do you order it? I don't see any option on the site.

€12.99 for Über Stock und Stein is a great price. €55 for shipping to New Zealand, not so much. I think I'll pass on the Easter promotion this year...

The Easter box is all ooh_jim's. I never made boxes for fan expansions. In any case, all my source files are on Apple Pages and I don't believe they open properly anymore, which is a personal annoyance. I am half tempted to remake all of these in Illustrator so they are of a higher, more consistent quality, but I simply don't have the time.

Just spent €215 on Friday pledging for Tang Gardens Complete set. Never played the game but it looks gorgeous and sounds fairly straightforward to learn. I backed Darwin’s Journey last year from the same company—haven’t received it yet due to Covid delays but it also looks really nice, is a theme I like, and is a longer game, so the two should balance each other out nicely.

Hello ooh_jim, thank you for sending the files. I may go back at some point and do a few more of my own that could help address some of the issues you brought up. Even though I really like the Corn Circles, Tunnels & Plague box, I'd like to create a Pentagon box for Tunnels, Plague, The Cult, and Halflings II. At the same time, I may revise the Corn Circles II box to fit both versions since they have the same watermarks.

On a related note, could you send me your edit files for your first batch of boxes? I printed the sheets out at 100% but they still seem to be too small for some reason. They are taller than they should be and not deep enough to fit all the tiles in the expansion while leaving room to extract them. Right now, it's like all the expansions are wearing tights and I am afraid to damage them pulling them out. Considering some of the expansions are worth over $100, I'd prefer to not damage them.  :-\

I have a goal to someday recreate all the boxes in Illustrator, which should fix the graphical errors that are present in the current editions, but it will take a lot of time that I simply don't have. When/if I do, I will certainly upload them all here.

This is actually a question worth a thorough poll. I guess they will not, especially as C3 art is not that substantially different visually from C2 and items are well compatible. This opens a number of potential approaches: slow replacement of all boxed expansions by C3 editions, re-releases of some C2 minis as C3, re-releases of some long time sought after C1 minis that never saw a light of a day as C2 now in C3 art etc. ... (I admit that the last option is more my wish than a probable scenario but ... who knows).
I'd say the only C1 expansions that may still be reprinted are The Besiegers and The Windroses. All the other unreleased ones are Spielbox expansions, and I just can't see those getting converted over at this point, especially since most of them cause more problems than they're worth. I think we've seen the last of The Plague, The Tunnels, and Little Buildings. I also can't see things like The School or Darmstadt, which were both done for specific fundraising/promotional purposes, converted to C3.

I love seeing all my boxes still in use. I never ended up making ones for the last few Carcassonne 1 expansions, or for things like the scoring tiles. Are you planning on sharing your files? I'd love to print them out.

It's an incorrectly-placed shepherd.
I suspect it's actually a proxy for the new types meeple.

This is an interesting thing to do with Carcassonne again. The game already has the Wheel of Fortune, which did the same thing. I still wonder why it hasn't been re-released in the new art. This seems like another attempt at the same thing, but with a ghost theme rather than a fate theme (though both have a mystical air about them). I am a little surprised at the low tile count. 60 tiles is not that many, especially since the base game now comes with 84 tiles and the 20th anniversary edition came with 104 plus a new double start tile. The premise of a co-operative mode, ghosts, a new multi-tile feature, and multiple levels of difficulty are all interesting and I am excited to see where they go in the context of an expansion.

In related news, Hans im Glueck also has fully embraced the Carcassonne 3.0 name: https://www.hans-im-glueck.de/news/Carcassonneversion3.html. Check also the list of Carcassonne products, which shows "7. Das Katapult (nicht mehr erhältlich)". I believe this is the first official acknowledgement that The Catapult is not going to be produced. No mention of Wheel of Fortune or a few early spin-offs.

Over two months after I placed my Advent order, it finally arrived today! A Valentine's Day miracle!  O0

Just for the record, I received a copy of The Signposts, The Gifts, a pink Abbot, a large 20th Anniversary bag, a small 20th Anniversary bag, and—most importantly—a Spiel '21 tile. Due to the increasing value of my complete set of Spiel tiles, I have retired them entirely from play. I'm pretty sure the value of those eight tiles is equal to the total value of all the rest of my Carcassonne material, except perhaps for my Corn Circles I and Tunnel tiles.

Years ago I paid somebody on this forum to assemble and ship a copy of this expansion to me. But after making sets for the first round of people who bought them, that person dropped the project leaving a bunch of us without copies. If one was ever shipped to me, it must have gotten lost in the mail (or worse, my mother-in-law's basement). In any case, I never received it.

I liked the look of Zamek the second I saw it, and I also like the new art, which serves as a nice homage to the original art while updating and enhancing it. The fact that the expansion is finally being published just underlines my interest even more. I don't have infinite funds, but if one of these Polish distributors can ship it to New Zealand relatively affordably, I am very interested.

No award labels. No guy under a tree in top right corner. Robber instead of a lady. That looks like a sealed Hans im Glück first edition to me.

Received Carcassonne: Safari yesterday. I had the Spiel DOCH! tiles for it but never actually bought the game. My partner saw it on Monday in an ad, asked why we didn’t have it, and I promptly found it on clearance at a place where we had a gift card from Christmas. It arrived two days later! Haven’t played it yet but it’s now fully punched and I’ve read the rules. Triangular scoring? Weird but I’m intrigued.

Meanwhile, my CundCo Advent order was finally shipped after I contacted Hans im Glück on Facebook. Fingers crossed that it arrives before 2023. :D

Congratulations Dan, Tom and Hector! You three will handle the forum and website well and a triumvirate should mean that the site management never completely collapse again as it has at least twice before.

As somebody who has been a member of this forum since 2008, when Gantry and Matt Harper were still active daily, I must say that this is a promising new development. I joined this forum about a year after buying my first Carcassonne product: the original Big Box, as well as the Games Quarterly Expansion. I immediately became addicted and this game quickly came to replace my earlier addiction to The Settlers of Catan (which I haven't played in many years). This community has certainly led me to spending hundreds of dollars over the years, but in many ways it saved me money since I also had early or day one knowledge of almost every Carcassonne product released. This meant that I was able to get every C1 expansion shortly after it came out and I have more or less continued to do so with new C2/3 content, after an initial hesitation.

I have seen at least three waves of management come and go, with Gantry and Matt gradually replaced in everyday moderation by Scott, kettlefish, and Novelty Nostalgia. Following the combination of a massive forum crash several years ago, the forum's migration to a new server, and the resignation/departure of many of our Hans im Gluck contacts not long after C2 released, the forum simmered for many years. Danisthirty was instrumental in keeping the group alive at this time, with me providing semi-regular weekly polls to encourage discussion and engagement. However the drift toward online tournaments, which I had no interest in, and my own personal life led me away, although I always checked in regularly (mostly to see if any new product has been announced).

I suspect I am now the seniormost active member of the group, if the fortnightly comment or post can be counted as "active." That's kind of a cool distinction and I truly wish I had more time for the hobby. My original interest in the forum came directly from Matt, who told me about his combined rules soon after they were uploaded onto BoardGameGeek (which I also joined as a result of the CAR). I volunteered to make the covers for them in those early days because his covers were not visually appealing and I had some experience from Catan rules booklets I had done. I stopped making covers after he did a major refresh for, I think, the 7th edition of the CAR. In those years, I also made a few fan expansions (most of which I never actually played myself) and published two Carcassonne campaigns (which I have played, although I've never done all 50 scenarios in the second edition). During the 2020 lockdown, I planned to work on and release a third edition campaign using the C2 expansions as a template, but I quickly ran out of time as my work role was reassigned. I haven't really had any time to work on it since and, as many of you may have noticed, I still don't engage heavily on the site despite checking in daily.

With all that being said, I am unbelievably happy that the torch has finally been passed. Gantry was a very active member for the first few years that the forum operated and then he became more of a behind-the-scenes tech support for when something went wrong, as well as the site's financial backer. It was never fair to him that he was saddled with the site once he lost interest and/or ran out of time to run it. But that is the nature of the internet: so many good websites are gone now because the person who paid the bills no longer wanted to. I am very glad such is now the case here. So I raise a glass of mead to you three to a long reign and an amicable power-sharing agreement. May your meeple towers never fall and may your tile towers runneth over. Salud!

Edit: Just for nostalgia's sake, here is the list of original admins, moderators, and staff from the old forum. Lots of old-timers I haven't heard from in many years...

Wish I was loving the postman. My Cundco order has been sitting awaiting departure in Germany since the 2nd of December.
Yeah, I got notified on 10 December that it was "awaiting information" (which, for the record, WAS included on the original order, as my receipt attests). Despite two replies, I haven't heard anything. I know they've been closed for the past three weeks, but I really hope they get on it soon and that my Spiel '21 tile is in the parcel.

General / Re: Meeple Stickers
« on: January 06, 2022, 05:24:25 PM »
Since the 20th Anniversary Edition provided me with an extra *cough* fifth *cough* set of meeples, I did apply them. They are of identical quality to the Spielbox stickers from about eight years ago, which I applied to my Wheel of Fortune meeples back then. My advice for applying them is carefully position them on each side of the meeple and then use your fingers to squeeze the meeple for about five seconds. Make sure your hands are on the warmer side, too. This will get the sticker's glue nice and deep into the meeple. I have done that with all of the meeple from this set (as well as a pink set sans the pink Abbot, which I am still waiting for from my Advent order of over a month ago now). I don't think any of the stickers have fallen off or gotten loose. That being said, the stickers are fairly obvious. The sides are thick enough to be visible on the meeples and because the wood grain is not flat, there are small air pockets across the sticker. I personally think they look fine and I prefer these stickers far more than the Spielbox stickers, but I recommend applying them only if this is your second (or more) set of meeples.
