Success!!! Thanks for all the suggestions. Based on the information that it might be a problem with the path, and the directory, I examined the older version that worked from a thumb drive. Noticing the structure of the folders, I then recreated that pattern in the newer version. Basically, the unpacker had put the jar and yami file in the wrong place. So I moved them to the folder they were supposed to be in, and ... voila.... success.

Thanks to all who helped. Once again, I have access to the best Carcassonne game.   :(y)

Tried using the 32 bit version of Java. But unfortunately still getting the error. The splash screen for the game does appear for about 10 seconds, then vanishes. And a few moments later, the error file appears in the folder.

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
   at com.jcloisterzone.ui.Bootstrap.loadPlugins(Bootstrap.java:102)
   at com.jcloisterzone.ui.Bootstrap.run(Bootstrap.java:177)
   at com.jcloisterzone.ui.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:207)

Arrggghhh!!!!  >:( Computers, ya gotta love them.

The Java I had was not the latest. So I uninstalled same, and got the latest. Changed my unpacker to Opener Pro. This time, I got the splash screen of JCloisterZone to show up. But it soon vanished, and nothing happened. I did get an error file.

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
   at com.jcloisterzone.ui.Bootstrap.loadPlugins(Bootstrap.java:102)
   at com.jcloisterzone.ui.Bootstrap.run(Bootstrap.java:177)
   at com.jcloisterzone.ui.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:207)

So, I think the problem is with java.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the suggestions. I am using the latest version from the official website. And I did update the java to the latest, 64 bit platform. I also right clicked on the jar file, and opted to run it with the Java platform. And it gives me the error.

I'm using Unpacker to unpack the downloaded file from the official site. But I had used unpacker before without any issues. And to complicate matters, when I run an old version of the jar file from a thumb drive, it opens that old version just fine. I must be doing something wrong. Just can't figure out what it might be.

Maybe I'll try WinRar as the unzipper, and see if that works.  Thanks for the help.

I've recently had to reinstall the game on my newly repaired system. It's now running Windows 10, 64 bit. Previously, it was working fine on a Windows 10, 32 bit machine. Now, I keep getting the "invalid or corrupt jarfile" error, when I try to run the jar file. Oddly, when I try to run an older version of JCloisterzone from a thumbdrive, it works just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First of all, thank you Farin for all your hard work on this. Definitely a work of love, and it shows. I love it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.  :(y) :(y)

I do have a question, though. Would it be a difficult task to be able to change the background from white to something else? Say a darker color? I'm not even thinking of a texture pic, say a table top. That would be extra nice. But, I'm just thinking about something to ease the glare of the bright white off these ancient eyes of mine. A nice peaceful dark green, perhaps? Just an idea.

Please keep up the great work!

The Marketplace / WTB Carcassonne Suite of Uitilites Disk
« on: June 19, 2015, 12:07:21 PM »
A few years ago, long before the apps on our phones, and tablets, I purchased a disk from a company 2die4games. It had the meridan game, along with a set of utilities to add isometric, 3D meeples, etc. Over the years, I have lost the disk. So I cannot install the extras on my PC version. It is the Meridan/Deep Silver version.

The link to 2die4Games is still there. But the option to purchase from them no longer works. Does anyone have a disk that they would be willing to sell? I'd love to get it again.

If you do, suggest a price, and I'll see if I can meet it.

Thanks.

That is exactly what happened, Danisthirty.   :(y) :(y) Thanks. I had an AI opponent selected.

I thought for sure I was going crazy. Not there one day. There the next. Mystery solved! Dang! I thought it was those pesky aliens who made the circles. Oh well...

Thanks for the info.  I signed in, and still couldn't see the darn CC, and had no idea how to scroll down, as the page seemed complete, and the scroll button on my mouse did nothing, and there were no scroll bars. Then I signed out of the server/game, and signed on, and the Corn Circles returned. cue alien music.  Seem they are of mysterious origin after all. :o

Loving the JCZone. Many thanks.

First of all, many many thanks, Farin, for all the hard work on this game.

I've tried the beta, and noticed that Crop Circles are no longer there. I don't really like them, since they usually mess me up. But I do play with them to keep me sharp. Did I miss a discussion on getting rid of this expansion?

Also, thanks for the option of not having the bidding at the bazaar. You can tell you're a player who understands the flow of the game.

A question. How difficult is it to make an alternate set of tiles, if someone wanted to contribute to the effort? Just wondering.

Best Wishes, Reggie  :green-meeple:

General / New Art vs Old Art...a Solution
« on: February 14, 2015, 05:47:43 AM »
As someone who tends to be a "complete"-ist, I have been wondering what to do about the new art. Should I start down that track? Or should I just stick with the old art for as long as they are available. I'm sure they will be around for a long time. And if I do buy the new art, how do I integrate their different look?

I have a proposal. Maybe, if we mix the new and old together for play, e.g. playing with 2 base games, we can have a house rule that old cities can only be completed or added to using old art tiles. And new art cities can only be added to by new art tiles. We would then have "old" cites, and "new" cities. In so doing, the new art would be concentrated and not really clash with an adjoining tile. Depending on your feelings about the new tiles, you could even award more pts for a new city, or an old city. The roads and fields would not be affected by this rule. So, we would still juxtapose new and old road, and field tiles. However, field color can vary from tile to tile, much like the patchwork fields of the countryside without clashing.

Not sure how this would look. Not even sure playing with 2 base game makes any sense. But what do you think?  :green-meeple:

Yes. Yes. Yes, Safari.  That version of Catan is exactly what I meant for our beloved game. Not only is there the detail on the pieces, but also animation, i.e. running waterfalls, windblown trees. Why oh why couldn't that have been Carcassonne?  :( Just imagine how our cities would look. Or the rivers.

Oh well... That's the great thing about dreaming. It costs nothing.  But, gosh.. wouldn't it be nice if we had such a version.

BTW, 3D printing is great!  I had the tile grids from Thingiverse printed by Sculpteo. And they work great. It makes shifting the playing field easy. We consider them a necessary accessory. A "necessory"??? Sorry 'bout that. Couldn't resist.   O:-)

WoW. Thanks for the link.

This is close to the idea. But it still plays with "real" flat tiles. I'm thinking more along the lines of a tile with all the features represented by small 3d models. So, a tile with a city wall would have a wall actually on the tile, as an object on the tile. You could then view the wall from different angles and different point of views. Think of a virtual 3D printed tile. When you complete a city, you have a little 3D city you can rotate and zoom in and out. Inns would be tiny 3D structures on the tiles.

I will look into the simulator you mentioned, though. It looks very interesting.  Thanks.
