Reviews & Session Reports / Old enemies renew their fierce rivalry
« on: March 21, 2020, 04:47:55 AM »
Last night danisthirty and jungleboy renewed their ancient rivalry in an epic game that would have been played in front of a full house at JCloisterZone Arena if not for the international ban on mass gatherings.

The game was base + Besiegers + Mage & Witch + phantom. It was close all the way and in the end, I secured a 152-149 victory with the last tile of the game, a FFFR cloister which allowed me to tie up the main farm.

IIRC, we also played another game before this one but I don't remember who won. I'll just assume it was me!

The ring is amazing but a better photo would indeed be nice  ;)

I've got the version without the wooden ark, and am a bit jealous now ;)

I can feel your inadequacy from here emoji code6]

Nice! I remember how important having the wooden ark was to me when I got my copy. Seems a bit silly in hindsight!

it's always a pleasure meeting fellow Carcassonne Centralers! ;)

That’s not what you told me when we met.

That's sad. Maybe a stupid question, but will we still be able to play local games vs AI opponents after the servers go down?

School of Sorcery by Steve Finn launched yesterday.

It's a reboot of the out-of-print The Institute of Magical Arts, which I own and love (although I haven't played it for ages now). It has some improved artwork and streamlined rules, but I'm happy with the original, and I don't really buy games anymore, so I won't back this one. But if you're after a 2-player magical game with lots of tension, dice rolling and an unusual take on area control, check it out.

Any other combinations you may find interesting are welcome... So step forward and reveal yourselves, oh Carcassonne players!  ;)

We discussed expansion combinations quite a lot back in the olden days. Here's an old post with my thoughts.

Four-player game. I'm green and go last. Hmm...

A drunken builder won't ever build anything that lasts...  :o

Maybe that's why the road edges don't always match up  ;)

Too bad your score doesn’t increase for having multiple inns!

Hope you're travels have been exciting.  It looks as if they are!

Yes they have been, thank you! But they’re over now as I’m back in Portugal awaiting an epic challenge from chooselife.

Hope all is well with the little meeple!

Other Games / Senet (Ancient Egyptian Board Game)
« on: December 07, 2019, 12:22:36 AM »
A couple of days ago at the Egyptian Museum in Turin, Italy, I came across the game of Senet. The board and components were found in the tomb of Kha, one of the most famous displays in the museum.

According to Wikipedia, Senet dates from 3100 BC, but the complete rules aren't known.
