What is your number 2?
« on: May 06, 2022, 06:42:41 AM »
Lets for argument sake that for everyone here, Carcassonne is their number one game. Curious to know, what is your number two?

I'd say in our household the number two favourite to play would be Ticket to Ride for sure and it's also my second favourite looking collection. But not much beats out my wife's Killer Bunnies collection in terms of number of expansions and content. Still don't know how anybody is ever going to shuffle that ridiculous amount of cards.

Just for clarification, I'm counting Carcassonne Remakes, spin offs and expansions as part of number one. Number two has to be a completely different game

Our current number 2 is Fluxx! Thanks @Decar for the recommendation! :(y) :(y)

https://www.looneylabs.com/games/fluxx

We got the basic one v5.0, and two other versions (Woderland Fluxx and Oz Fluxx) and some other odds and ends such as a Tiny Fluxx... We have lots of fan with a quick fix of Tiny Fluxx already in bed before falling sleep. :o

Check here all the versions and surrender... >:D >:D >:D

Right now, it's a toss up between The Red Dragon Inn (https://slugfestgames.com/rdifamily/) and Dominion (https://www.riograndegames.com/games/dominion/)

I have a complete collection of Dominion, and I've collected all of the Red Dragon Inn retail products. I'm continually debating whether to collect the promotional material for that one, that stuff adds up!

It's a bit pricey, but there are a lot of fun games in Looney's Pyramid Arcade: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/187988/pyramid-arcade
Picked it up last Christmas, and the fam & I still are still enjoying it.
It's all fun and games...until the Mirror Zone comes out.

Chinese Mahjong!  It is basically gin rummy, but with the joy of tiles (37x28x22mm).  There is a reason that more than a billion people worldwide play this game!

Simple introduction: http://www.mahjongpictureguide.com/

(The American game is very different from all other versions and in my opinion much less fun.)

Bang! with expansions. Very addictive game. But it needs 5+ players.
For 4+ players is UNO with all additional rules like which cards and movecards when placed card 0 and 7.

Other is that one of most popular game in Slovakia is Joker. And we play a lot version of Joker, which we call in Slovakia as American Joker.

Guillotine or 7 Wonders+Leaders+Cities. Guillotine is my favorite game just because it is so straight-forward yet has so much back-stabbing, plus I love the theme since I'm a French historian. But 7 Wonders I think is the best for a larger group and it is also very straight forward yet has a lot of strategy, especially once the Leaders and Cities expansions are added.

Simple rules and mechanisms so its easy to teach but still big choices to be made.
Scales well from 2-4 players.
Other than smaller card games and Carcassonne, it is definitely my most played game.
Made in 1998 but doesn't feel old to me. A classic for sure.

It's recent reprints are out of print again. Hoping it gets picked up for another run.

Actually, its Teraforming Mars. With all expansions. And best with 3-4 players. Spend too much time playing it :D

Carcassonne South Seas for me!
That's counted as part of number one.  :D Number two has to come from outside the Carcassonne Series.

Been quite the diversity in games, been interesting learning about everyone's favourites. Quite a few I've never hear of myself. The idea of Fluxx sounds particularly interesting with the goals and gameplay changing throughout the game. So far Dominion seems to be the second favourite with two votes.

Catan.  I went collector crazy with it and own all the expansions and extensions for it too, just like Carcassonne.  It doesn't have as many expansions as Carcassonne, but they tend to be more expensive.

As a former Catan collector myself (I haven't played the game in probably a decade now), I disagree. For every one promo Carcassonne releases, Catan has at least three! It also has nearly as many spin-offs and is quickly catching up on the number of full expansions to the base game it has, although they aren't as cross-compatible as Carcassonne's are. Rivals for Catan alone has two full-sized expansions and at least 10 single-card promos, not counting at least one cut-out promo. Catan also has many more gameplay accessories.
