Hey Everyone. I am looking for Expansions that have the original tile art style. From what I understand HiG and Zman both made original art versions before they "upgraded" to the new art for the expansions. How can you tell form the boxes which expansions are in the old art?

Is the attached picture a box that contains original tile art or the new tile art?

Welcome to the forum Ted,

That's the old art style.

The new artwork boxes looks like this:

As you'll see they have quite a different style. The new ones are generally more colourful and realistic looking, and the logo has more of a 3d/shaded look.

The older boxes generally have a border and look a little more cartoony.

Also, there were two different publishers for the English edition: before Z-Man, there was Rio Grande Games (RGG). Anything you find with the Rio Grande logo will be classic artwork, since that switchover happened before the art changed.

If you want Hills and Sheep in the original artwork you will have to get it from Z-Man as it was released after RGG stopped printing Carcassonne.

Just to be clear - zman published all of the expansion in the old-style, so it's best to go with the artwork on the box. This also allows you to consider a broader range of european publishers.

I have some original art expansion to move on if you are interested in used tiles.
Expansions 1,2,3,6,7,8 and some small ones too. Windroses, gq expansion, river 1, de kloosters.

Cundco stills sells Trader & Builders(2), Abbey & Mayor(5), King, Count & Consorts(6) and Bridges, Castles & Bazzars (8 ) in German for the old art.
