Meeple Flags will replace scoring tiles
« on: August 18, 2021, 12:47:31 AM »
This is an spoiler about a new accessory HiG will be releasing to replace scoring tiles: Meeple Flags.

If you don't know what Meeple Flags are, check this out:

They were created by Game Crafter in the US:

https://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/meeple-flags-for-carcassonne

There is also a thread on CarcC discussing them a couple of years ago, where I first knew of them:

https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4209.0

After the introduction for the newcomers, let's go to the nitty-gritty...

As posted on Reddit by the creator of Meeple Flags himself:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Carcassonne/comments/p6gr2h/after_a_couple_of_years_i_have_now_contributed_an/

Quote
After a couple of years, I have now contributed an officially licensed Carc product!

I was contacted by Hans im Gluck (European publisher of carc) a few months back about my Meeple Flags that I sell on the Game Crafter. Hans Im Gluck and I signed a contract, making them officially licensed products. I even got a tile signed by Klaus himself! HiG will apparently be making their own version soon for the European market that has a harder time getting TGC products overseas. I'm not sure if that matters to many people, but the folks who make Carc are actually really nice people.

I was excited, but there aren't many people outside of this forum that really would know what I'm talking about, so I figured I'd share here :)

If you check, Cundco does not offer scoring tiles for the time being, so they should be available soon.

This is great news at least for those of us based in Europe, since the shipping costs from the US were rather steep.

I'm looking forward to see them available soon on CundCo.

I'm intrigued if they will use the same artwork or will go for a C2 look...

This looks nice, and may prevent some errors ("did I already flip my scoring tile?").

I'll definitely order them once available at CundCo  :yellow-meeple:

When these came out in the US a few years ago, i did look into getting some, but yes the shipping costs can be high from US into Europe.
Cundco's shipping costs have gone up to ship to the UK, but at least it can be combined with other stuff (there's always something else i wanna buy from Cundco).

Looking forward to it!

When you open them you get the burnt smell from the laser cut and you have to clean the sot from the edges.

The fit perfectly on Cundco meeples. I tried them on meeples from Meeplesource.com but they have a slightly different profile so they feel a little wobbly.

One thing, last week I played a game outdoors and it was a bit windy. I have to lay the scoring meeples with flags flat as the wind was knocking them down all the time.

In any case, all the players were extremely happy as the go past the 50 space and they got their first flag!  ;)

Ah yes I remember these!
I thought these were quite clever solution, but the shipping from US was way too steep for such a small product. If HiG is publishing it officially on Cundco, I am all for it  :(y)
Not sure about the artwork, but the production will certainly be different - more in line with other official Carcassonne products.
I do have few things to note however: 1) there is quite a bit of variation among meeples, so not all are guaranteed to fit; 2) even those which fit perfectly will likely were out with repeated use and become too loose; 3) they do not fit woman followers - this can be solved by simply changing the flag on normal follower every time either of the scoring figures passes 50 points.

These look like a lot of fun.  Thanks for sharing.

I have always loved the scoring track, but only used the scoring tiles once, because the flipping was a hopeless mess for us.

A few years ago, I discovered cheap vintage French coins on eBay.  Search “French coins lot” and there are tons of options.  My favorites are the aluminum WWII era coins, like these.  Each coin is worth 50 points.  The coins fit perfectly into a small empty spice jar.  To help us remember to take a coin, we have a slightly bizarre ritual in which the player who earns a coin declares, “Smell my points,” and we all take a whiff of the open spice jar.

Those coins look cool and I love the authenticity of it! We've done similar but have gone for "smiley tokens" (https://www.meeplesource.com/proddetail.php?prod=Smiley) to represent 50 points. We don't have any kind of ritual like yours (thankfully?), but generally people don't forget to pick up a smiley as they complete a lap of the scoretrack since they're highly sought-after during games.

Thanks for posting this MeepleDrone! I'm super excited about it myself. To thank me for such a great idea, HiG sent me a ton of expansions for my old version of Carc, which I can't find anywhere anymore. Honestly, it was better than money. And I still get to keep the small amount of money made for my Gamecrafter sales, royalty-free, until I sell like 3000 euros worth (which would mean like selling 300 of them in a year, so that probably won't happen). Anyway, the HiG folks are really kind and helpful.  :blue-meeple:

Congratulations on your exploits!

Getting C1 stuff is awesome! That deserves a Mega Carc game to put your Meeple Flags to a good use too.

Some suggestions for the start configuration just in case:  ;)

Now I feel the urge to buy even more Meeple Flags from you as they will be the C1 version... Although customs will cost me the other arm and leg...

Congratulations! I am so jelly, getting old C1 expansions is a blessing. I'm buying some flags for sure, would it be better to buy them from HiG or Gamecrafter?

I sent you a DM asking a few things I'm concerned about.
