Happy Father's Day
« on: June 21, 2015, 12:17:32 AM »
I'm not sure which countries are celebrating it today, but for those of us that are, I hope all the dads out there are having a wonderful and relaxing Father's Day today.  :(y)

In New Zealand we celebrate it in early September with Mothers Day in early May.

In Italy is 19/03
A knight is sworn to valour.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.

Blimey. I was aware that some countries had it on different days but it seems from this more like almost every country has it on their own day! Oh well, happy Father's Day anyway...

Fathers day in the UK is one of the few festivals that we have taken from the States.  (I think)

In Italian the date is linked to the Christian religion, it falls on the same day of the anniversary of St. Joseph, father of Jesus.

In Germany Ascension Day is called Father's Day by secular people, in Eastern Germany they call it Gentleman's Day.

I don't know about Father's Day in other countries, but in Germany it's an official holiday because of Ascension Day and nearly nobody works. Hence many young men (without having children) have a walk with their clique. They pull a little trolley with many alcoholic beverages, at the evening many of them are drunk ... Nowadays young women do the same ...

And in Austria it's one week afterwards. And no drinking with friends since no official holiday. ;)
