Can I help with the Dutch translation of the site?

Hi Windekind!!!

You can join the for sure! Sinscerly is feeling very lonely with the Dutch translation.  ;)

Send me a PM with your email and I will set up an acxount for you at wikicarpedia.com

Merry Christmas!!!

PS:

BTW, I extend Eloniel's call to all other languages. We would need at least to native (gamer  :red-meeple:) speakers per language to produce the best quality translations.

So far we have 1 American (Mikeagan), 1 British (wolnic), 1 Dutch (Sinscerly), 1 French (Eloniel), 2 Germans (Murphy013 and LRV), 1 Polish (Maj.Frost), 1 Spanish (Meepledrone - that would be me)

I'm feeling lonely too  :'(

Cheers! ;D

Thank you Dan for the Advent Quiz!!!

Very intense 24 days  ;)

Merry Christmas to you and all the people at CarcC!!!

Official Rules / Re: The Festival & Traders & builders
« on: December 23, 2018, 09:06:04 AM »
Helloooo!!!
What if I put festival tile near a city where there are a follower with a Builder ad I decide to take the same follower back retaking also the builder? Can I play again because the tile was placed near the city with the follower?  :o

Hi again!!!

I understood the scenario as follows:
  • You have a city with a meeple and a builder
  • You draw a Festival tile and extend that city
  • You decide to remove the meeple thanks to the Festival tile, and the same happens builder as it was your only meeple  in the city
  • You want to know if you can perform the double turn provided by the builder, although it is not present anymore

If I understood it right, then the answer is YES, because you got the double turn when you extended the city with the builder in it; it doesn't matter if it is gone when the second part of the builder turn begins. Please check footnote #4, at http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Traders_and_Builders for more details.

If you are talking about a different scenario, please let me know. This was my interpretation of placing the Festival tile "near" the city. If the Festival tile does not extend the city, you won't get the double turn.

Hope this helps.

Merry Christmas!!!

Official Rules / Re: The Barber-Surgeons questions
« on: December 23, 2018, 08:07:18 AM »
Hellooooo!!!

First game with this expansion... It's very difficoult to play with and here some questions:

Hello and Merry Christmas!!!

The Wikicarpedia (http://wikicarpedia.com) provides some clarifications on the basic rules and the interaction of The Barber-Surgeons and The Festival on the following pages:  ;D

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Barber-Surgeons
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Festival

Anyway, I reply to your questions one at a time.

Helloooo1 - does the Abbot go to the Barber-Surgeons fter scoring if they are free?

YES, the abbot goes to a free bathhouse, if available. Please check footnote #1 at http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Barber-Surgeons#cite_note-1 for more details.

2 - it's clear that if there is a Barber-Surgeons on a city or street, the follower who takes the points from these takes also the points written on the barber-surgeons. But after? does the same follower go in a barber-surgeons?

YES, if there is an empty bathhouse and the meeple is alone on the scored road or city. Nevertheless this meeple could be spared from the bathhouse if additional features were completed and you, as the player placing the tile, decide the scoring order of the features so other meeple (yours or from another player ;) ) is taken to the available bathhouse.

A meeple is alone if  there is no other meeple from the same player or from another player on the feature. Note that if a builder was on the scored city or road too, it would not interfere with the meeple moving to the bathhouse as the builder is not a meeple. Please check footnote #1 at  http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Barber-Surgeons for more details.

3 - can I take back a follower from the barber-surgeons with a Festival tile?

YES, as per The Festival rules, any of the player's figures on the playing area can be retrieved, so bathhouses are included. Please, check footnote #4 at http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Festival.

4 - what happens at the end of the game?

thanky you and marry christmas!!!  O0

The Barber-Surgeons rules do not describe any actions regarding the end of the game or the final scoring. This suggests that meeples still trapped in bathhouses at the end of the game will not be involved in any scoring. You only remove them when scoring - No other action on them is possible as you don't place any more tiles or meeples.

Hope this helps...

Again, Merry Christmas!

Cheers!

I'm not able to get the Game References selection to work. Everything just says "Transmogrifying...". I'm running Safari 12.0.2 (latest edition).

I'm using Safari 10.1.2 on Mac. This is probably your browser cache that needs to be refreshed. Hold Shift while clicking Reload, or press either Ctrl-F5 or Ctrl-R (⌘-R on a Mac). Let me know if this woks for you.

Also, the home page says "First Edition rules" but that isn't accurate. The First edition only refers to the original game and, specifically, the original rules for Farming. I am not sure if you have the original Farming rules anywhere (you definitely should, if not) but I'd use some other term than "First edition" to refer to the older art. Perhaps "First Generation", "Doris Mätthaus Edition", or "Mätthaus Art Edition"

Good point! In the Carcassonne world, as you mentioned, the word "edition" has multiple meanings depending on the context:
  • 1st Edition, 2nd Edition and 3rd Edition refer to the different versions of scoring rules for two-tile cities and farms.
  • New Edition refers to new-artwork Carcassonne, New Carcassonne, Carcassonne 2.0, Carcassonne II, or CII for short
This leaves a gap regarding how to refer to Carcassonne I, so to speak. We tried to avoid the term "Old Edition", in contrast to "New Edition", as we assumed that HiG could surprise us with a "New New Edition" some day. So we opted to refer to Carcassonne I as "First Edition", so the current "New Edition" could become "Second Edition" eventually, and so on and so forth.

For the same reasons, we avoided talking about "old artwork" and "new artwork", so we never have to face an "old new artwork" situation.

So this is the rationale behind the naming convention. In any case, I shared your remarks with the whole team to open a discussion.

Regarding the three editions of scoring rules, we haven't included them yet, but it will happen soon.

Thanks for your comments.

Cheers!

Hi all,

I wanted to share with you one of the features you'll find at Wikicarpedia (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/) and that we hope that will help you survive in the Carcassonne world so full of expansions: the Game Reference (http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Game_Reference).

It allows you to select expansions (fully or partially) from three editions of Carcassonne: the 1st Edition, the new Edition and the Winter Edition. Once you make your pick, the Game Reference sections update automatically so you get an adapted Carcassone Reference Guide to meet your needs. The Game Reference includes:
  • A Game Reference summary
  • A detailed description of the Preparation phase
  • A detailed description of the Final Scoring phase
  • A detailed description of the Order of Play to be used in several phases during the game: the River Rounds, the normal Game Rounds and the Extra Abbey Round
  • A detailed summary of the Scoring During the Game, applicable to the Order of Play rounds
  • A detailed summary of the Scoring After the Game, applicable to Final Scoring phase

Besides selecting expansions, you can also find other features such as:
  • Filtering out the expansions of a particular Carcassonne edition you may be not interested in.
  • Select expansions belonging to a particular Big Box, for example.
  • Clearing your selection or selecting all the visible expansions with just one click
  • Deciding what edition rules and graphics (if available) you want to see, that is, your preferred edition.
  • Highlighting all the rules that belong to other editions than the preferred one.
The Game Reference page relies on the Expansion Selector at the very top that is organized in several tabs:
  • "Expansions" tabs: The first three tabs from the left allow you to pick expansions in full or partially when possible:
    • Tab "Major expansions": lists all official major expansions by HiG.
    • Tab "Minor expansions": lists all official minor expansions by HiG and some of their licensed equivalents.
    • Tab "Other expansions": lists the rest of licensed expansions as well as some unofficial ones.[/li}
  • Tab "Quick Selectors": allows you to choose from a predefined list of available expansions sets.
  • Tab "Filters": allows you to choose what Carcassonne editions are displayed and your preferred edition. It also allows you to activate the highlighting feature.
  • Tab "?": provides a short user guide.
I invite to try it and share your comments. Thank you in advance.

Cheers!

Official Rules / Re: The Festival & Shepherd
« on: December 15, 2018, 02:17:15 PM »
If you play with the expansions, the festival and hills and scheep, can the shepherd be removed or placed?
If you can removed the shepherd, then the sheep are lost? Or can you count them? Or do they stay?

In Car 7.4 there is no mention of the shepherd.

Hi Windekind,

There are no official clarifications about the interaction of these two expansions in the 1st or the new edition. After checking the CAR 7.4 and Wikicarpedia (http://wikicarpedia.com/), the rules indicate that The Festival allows you to remove any figure on the tiles of the playing area. That would include the shepherd.

Additionally, the following conclusions can be drawn:
  • Removing a shepherd does not invoke the Herd flock into stable action, so no flock scoring would take place
  • Regarding the shepherd's flock, it is reasonable to leave it as is on the game board: If it was shared with one or more shepherds, the other shepherds would not be affected; otherwise, the flock could be claimed by a new shepherd. It would be an analogous case to the sheep found on some tiles in 1st edition minor expansions such as The River III or Halflings II.
After looking into your question I also have added some clarifications (check the footnotes) to the Wikicarpedia The Festival pages for the 1st and new edition covering this matter and the interaction with other new edition expansions. You can check them for more details:

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Festival_(1st_edition)
http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/The_Festival

All your comments are welcome.

Cheers!

General / Re: Carc 2.0 Finally Complete!
« on: December 12, 2018, 08:38:10 AM »
Hi, i'm looking for a list of every official expansions/mini expansions/ tiles published on magazines but only for the 2.0 version of Carcassonne and somehow i couldn't find this. So I know that all the 10 expansions (except the 7: The catapult) had been rereleased, that the Big box includes nine mini expansions and that at least 3 or 4 spiel tiles exist but what other 2.0 product exist (plus where by them ?) Thanks !

Hi Eloniel,

Have you checked WICA?

http://wikicarpedia.com

You'll find here the list you are looking for and the updated annotated rules associated. The aim is it to become an online updated online CAR, a Carcassonne Complete Annotated Rules Wikipedia!

We are currently finishing the new edition major expansion pages, but the listing is already there including all the latest minor expansions and promos.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Official Rules / Re: Expansion 8, Scoring the Castle token
« on: November 22, 2018, 03:12:51 PM »
I think this comes down to:

Do the German Cathedrals or German Castles or Garden count as scoring a feature for the Castle token?

Which bonus points does the Castle receive?
Cathedral, Inn, Mage, Witch - Yes
Fairy?  Ringmaster?  (On the feature or on the Castle token or both or neither)???
The Watch Tower bonus points - (no?)?
  The Little Buildings (yes?)?
Bonus points from G. Cathedral or G. Castle (yes)?
  Markets of Leipzig?  (Yes?)?
The meeple bonus from the Labyrinth (Yes?)?

The castle will get the points scored by a feature with all its "scoring modifiers" applied:
  • Roads, with modifiers: Inns, Mage/Witch, Little Buildings, Labyrinths, G.Cathedrals, G.Castles, Bathhouses.
  • Cities, with modifiers: Cathedral, Mage/Witch, Little Buildings, G.Castles, Bathhouse, Cathars/Siege/Besiegers, Darmstatdtium.
  • Monasteries and their variations (Shrines/Abbeys/G. monasteries with a monk/Darmstatdt churches) if the feature tile is in the castle area of influence or fief (6 tiles around it), with modifiers: Vineyards, Challenges, Little Buildings.
Additionally, these features are also considered by extension when completed, but no official clarification exists about it:
  • G. Cathedrals, with modifiers: Inns (when the G. cathedral is in the fief.)
  • G. Castles (when the tile is partially or totally included in the fief.)
  • Gardens (when the garden tile is in the fief). However, this feature is omitted in the C2 rules of BC&B ( Expansion 8 ) when discussing C2 features considered for castle scoring, so this is an open question.
When placed on a feature, the Fairy, the Ringmaster and the Watchtowers are associated to a meeple (not necessarily having the majority) and not to the feature, so they are not to be taken into consideration for the castle. Something similar happens to Markets of Leipzig, associated to meeples in Leipzig (with certain additional conditions per bonus type).

On the other hand, when talking about the castle itself:
  • A Fairy cannot be placed on a castle as it is not located on a single tile as of C1. The Fairy can be placed in a castle in C2.
  • A Ringmaster can be placed on a castle but no clarification is provided regarding its scoring when the castle is completed: as the ringmaster is not a single tile, the 9-tile scoring area cannot be considered (a house rule could dictate that the 6-tile fief is to be considered instead).
  • Watchtowers do not apply to castles.
Check the scoring info and evaluation order on the WICA Game Reference (go to the "Quick Selectors" tab and click the "Select All" button to show all the expansions combined in the Order of Play and Scoring sections on the same page):

http://wikicarpedia.com/index.php?title=Game_Reference&edition=C2

More information on the rules and clarifications can be found here, of course;

http://wikicarpedia.com/

Hope this helps.

Edit: Integrated comment in following post.

Edit: Updated Markets of Leipzig after discussion on the mechanics associated to bonus.

News and Events / Re: New Expansion: Die Badehäuser
« on: November 16, 2018, 11:18:34 AM »
Another question: could be possible to place a tile, as consequence complete a city / road ... and place the Meeple in the bathhouse, pay the points, recover the Meeple, and use it in the tile, everything in the same round?

Hi Meeplefan,

This is not allowed because you move the the Meeple to a bathhouse after Scoring (Phase #3), and, as per the rules, you can only buy you Meeple back from a Bathhouse right after placing a tile (Phase #1) and then you are allowed to place it right away in Phase #2 (Placing a Meeple) in the same turn.

Therefore, after moving a Meeple to a bathhouse, you will only be able to get it back and place it in a later turn... Unless, of course, you have a double turn thanks to the Builder or a Dispatch, but this is another story.

Cheers!
