Reviews & Session Reports / Re: Championship in Thailand

Nice pictures...

With the Carcassonne championship, I will ask HiG...

Great I look forward to hearing more =)

Well done on reaching the semi-finals! I've played a little bit of Settlers of Catan in the past but I wasn't very good at it and found it very frustrating when everyone else seemed to be getting lots of resources and building things everywhere whereas I always seemed to be left behind. A game of Carcassonne would have to be going very badly indeed for me to get as stuck as I typically did when playing Catan!

Yes I agree. I only really just started to enjoy Catan myself, but if you mess up your initial placements (or someone else messes them up for you) then the game can be pretty much lost from the outset

Reviews & Session Reports / Championship in Thailand
« on: May 11, 2014, 09:26:54 AM »
Yesterday I competed in the National Catan Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
It was great fun with 32 contestants taking part. I made it to the semi-finals, but never really expected to even do that well.
Finally a very skilled Thai guy won the championship and a free flight / accommodation to compete in Germany.

Here are some pics. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.631946163552350.1073741843.460665910680377&type=1

The organizer of this championship and I are now dreaming about running a Carcassonne championship some time. It would be great to have some official backing on board. Hopefully he can connect with someone at Essen this year to help make it happen.

Leagues (including expansion leagues) / Re: A Carcassonne League?

@rfielder - hopefully any concerns you may have over the suitability of using JCloisterZone will be addressed in the email, but please do let me know if they're not  :)
Dan:

I am sure JCloisterZone will be fine.

My only concern is getting it work between two individuals across the internet.  Has anyone here actually made that happen?

I suspect you'll have headaches with firewalls and port routing.

General / Re: What defines "Mega-Carcassonne"?
« on: April 18, 2014, 10:06:32 AM »
For us MegaCarc at its very core was about pushing yourself. Incorporating all the different elements and seeing whether you and the group could keep up with the craziness as you got your head around the order of play and the interplay between the expansions' rules. Back when we first called it MegaCarc (without even realising there were others using the same term) we had 3 major expansions and King & Scout. Then it grew as our collection grew. It was never about the amount of tiles. A completed game of MEGAcarc always left you with a great sense of achievement. Almost like it was a battle between the players and the game itself. If you made it through the game then everyone felt like a winner!

Great work... It will definitely help me get my head around sheep and hills before I obtain a copy

The Marketplace / Re: Wheel of Fortune
« on: April 17, 2014, 09:33:19 AM »
It may come as a surprise but I resorted to using my wheel of fortune tiles as my main base set. The reason being my base set had too much wear and tear, and they didn't have watermarks which made it a pain to sort from my 4 other expansions that I purchased in the beginning without watermarks. I let my kids play with my old base set as its already well used

My friends and I did a league competition on BSW. It was hard work because of timezone issues. As we'd moved all around the world, but we managed to make it work and it was a great deal of fun!

We gave each round a timeslot of 2 weeks to make sure they could schedule in a match

Awesome... We're working out what we need at this end. Might need to use two kick starter accounts if it doesn't fit the tiers you offer

I received a reply from Cundco that they hope to have it for sale around April.

my oddball pick was the Plague.

It is without doubt my favorite "mini" expansion. I really enjoy the cutthroat feel it has. It's not perfect by any means, but I love playing it.

Either way I'm backing it if the postage won't be too ridiculous to Australia
