News and Events / Forum downtime 3rd October 2021
« on: October 03, 2021, 06:29:09 PM »
Hello all,
Earlier today the forum went offline, and upon investigation into the server logs some PHP files where present in the cache folder that had malicious code. I have cleared all the files in the cache, and the forum is now back up. Please post here if you find any more issues.

I have enabled additional security rules at the server level to provide further protection.

Most likely DNS changes are taking time to get to some folks... Should catch up today.

Sorry for the downtime, but we had to move the forum to a new host unexpectedly. Let me know if you find any issues, by replying to this topic.

Thanks!

Should be all fixed now. The backup had an error, and was causing the webserver to stay offline. Emails should be catching up now as well.

Thanks for your patience. :)

Hi jcircus,
was the server not online this afernoon (German time) - for you in the early morning ?

Yes, It went offline and I contacted the datacenter as soon as I got the notice to check and reboot. I am investigating the cause. It was offline for about 1 hour.

hmmm the time sync service seemed to be dead on the server. It is now fixed and at the correct time. Sorry about that.

My postings at CarcF - today 15 05 2015:
Quote from: 'kettlefish'
CarcC is not online since 12:40pm (German time) - West Canadian time 3:40am
It was online around 12:27pm.
Quote
Not Found
HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found.

Quote from: 'kettlefish'
CarcC is again online since 2:10pm (14:10) German time = West Canadian time 5:10am.
-----------------------------
But something is strange - the time at CarcC is now 21:15 (9:15pm) for Germany- crazy

After some investigation, looks like the web server had a brief DDOS attack on that day, which caused the web engine to start issuing out 404 errors to requests.

Need to do a quick reboot to apply some security updates. Should only be offline a few minutes.

Not sure why you keep getting up/down notifications from uptimerobot, but they are bogus. I also have the same monitor, and it shows solid uptime since 04/08/15. so why such a large difference? That's why i have switched to statuscake for all my monitoring...

Thanks for the update Kettlefish. I realize you can't update this thread while it is down, but I would like to keep a record here if possible. I will check both threads daily and I have Statuscake notifying me directly if there is an automated test problem.

Thanks!
