I'm a bit late getting this posted, but I the annual birthday game with my family using Zoom and playingcards.io.  Here are the photos of players, final landscape before/after scoring:

(full-size here).

(full-size here).

We used an 89-tile mix (base game + Inns - 1 Cathedral), so each player had 22 turns.  We also used bridges, and my  pennant keepers and Collectives variants.

As usual, I came in last place, but it was a VERY close game.  No one was able to connect the two Black fields at the bottom, so Black held on for the win.

Game ended with 2147 to 2006 points.
Wow!  Very close for such a big game!

Great landscape.  Had to open it in another window to zoom in and browse around!  Also love the arrow hole created by the halflings.

Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to the Forum, @Aregmeeple.

Even though I have lots of expansions and variants, I usually prefer the base game with 3 or 4 players.

Regardless of what you end with, if you hang out a while you’ll have no trouble with all manner of Carc trivia!  Enjoy!

At a board game meetup last night, we played with the 20th Anniversary set they had at the cafe.  To keep the game shorter, we omitted the river and the 15 arrow expansion tiles.  We included my Guesthouses expansion as a surrogate for I&C.  And we omitted the Abbots because I don't like them.   >:D

The one new player picked up the game quickly and we offered occasional tips in key situations.  Two pivotal moments: After a nasty FRFR placement by Red, Green got locked into an incomplete city (lower left) when the last CFRR tile was played; later, Green was blocked out of the massive 28-point city when Yellow got a lucky draw of the CCFF-S tile (top center).  Red won despite having only one farmer!  Here is the landscape just before final scoring:

As always, the game was fun and exciting.  And I still think a 72-tile game is the right duration, especially for new players.

On a personal note, I was definitely reminded of how much I prefer the simplicity and elegance of the C1 art.  But the game really is just great with any art!   :D

Other Games / Linie 1 (aka Streetcar) + Carcassonne = Double the Fun!
« on: April 02, 2024, 10:30:37 AM »
I thought some of you might be interested in my observation that the tiles from Linie 1 (aka Streetcar in the US) and the tiles from Carcassonne Travel Edition are close enough to the same size that you can glue them together and carry both games in the same box.  A bit more detail here:
https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3276916/thicker-tiles-glue-carcassonne-travel-edition-on-t

Also, we think Linie 1 is a great little game.

Enjoy!

@Ker42 great game!  Thanks for sharing the photo and the story.
That is a monster Inn road bottom left!   >:D

Looks like you all really like the Ferries, too.  My kids hate those.

Also, did you include the Zoo in there?  I see some escaped animals…

After seeing 5 people interested, I decided to make more double-sided tiles!  I was able to use up almost all of my unneeded extra tiles, ending up with 3 sets of 73 tiles (no missing tile here)!  I literally drew the names out of a Phillies hat and the winners are:
If the winners could message me with shipping information, I will get the packages in the mail.  The tiles fit very nicely in a standard expansion box.  I also had exactly 3 extra scoreboards, which fit perfectly in those boxes when cut in half.  Finally, I will put in whatever appropriate wood bits (ferries, gold bars, dragon, etc.) I have for the tiles that ended up in each box.  The meeples will be up to you, but they should be able to fit in the box as well.

Glad to find happy homes for what I think is a really fun variant.

Cheers!

The Marketplace / WTG: About 100 double-sided C1 tiles
« on: February 27, 2024, 05:26:05 AM »
About 18 months ago, I made a set of 60 double-sided Carcasssonne tiles.  My original idea was to keep make only a small set, 60 tiles plus a start tile.  But then I got carried away and started adding things and eventually ended up with many more tiles than I need.

I have been yet again reorganizing my collection and now I am ready to give away about 100 of these double-sided tiles.  It includes 12 double-sided River/City tiles, but I'm keeping the double-sided Abbeys.  Otherwise, it is a mix of base game and random selections from many expansions.  You can use some expansion rules (e.g. Inns, Fliers, Hills, Ferries, Belagerer all work fine, regardless of how many tile are in play).  For others (e.g. a handful of tower tiles) you can just ignore the expansion rules.  We usually ignore everything except the Inns.  The variety of edge combinations makes the tile draw seem very random and unpredictable, but the balance of tile types makes for a good game (e.g. not too many cities or roads).

The feel of the tiles really is great and the game is quite fun with experienced players; I might avoid this with newbies because of the extra decision making.

I'm happy to ship them (just tiles) anywhere for free.  I really just want someone to get some use out of them.

Please reply here if you are interested.  If we have more than one interested person, we'll have a lottery.

Cheers.

+1!

I'm especially thankful for posts like this because they help me convince my family that my Carcassonne obsession could be even more profound and consuming... >:D

The video doesn't give instrumental and vocal credits...are you playing or singing?

Well, a month on and there seems to be no fix from Google, so I think it has to be a new security "feature".

I discovered a pretty simple edit that seems to work.  Just use this format for the img tag:
Code: [Select]
[img]https://drive.google.com/thumbnail?id=<insert google file id here>&sz=w350[/img]
The "w350" specifies the width.

I updated my first forum post -- perhaps a few others can confirm that they see the image at the top of this post:
https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=4962.msg76193#msg76193

I may try to work my way through all ~800 of my posts and update the image links... good memories  :)

Thanks everyone for your help.
