I have recently played Carcassonne with a couple who happily advised "we have played once before with friends. The friends had occasionally played with their own son...but never without. It was their son who did all the scoring etc. The game that these 4 people played was peppered with comments of 'all these 1 tile rivers are very hard to complete, and I can't see in the rules the value of a completed river!"
I took the liberty of explaining that the river is completed ahead of drawing any of the 72 main game tiles. They much preferred this version of play with the exception of my farming.
Upon fessing up that I have more museum of Carcassonne visitor stamps than all the world champions put together, that I had met the great Tom Hill on more than 1 occasion and that I own a mustachioed tile - they declined to play again and quickly turned the conversation to 7 Wonders.
Here endeth the lesson.

I have noticed lots of comments about the use of wooden meeples in WikiCarpedia.
I have just invested in some gemstone meeples, others have plastic, glass and I expect there are meeples made in other materials.
Is it necessary to include 'wooden', surely just 'meeple' is enough?
