WOW! I'm late but I would like to thank everyone in Carcassonne for your warmth and kindness especially @Linkarssonne (our perfect host), @Challa007 (the bringer of joy and Oktoberfest champion), @Willem (the crazy collector) and @MMike (the master tinkerer) who made our stay so great. MrsMeepledrone also came back delighted and inspired with the same good spirits, although she didn't have high expectations at first. In the end, after these wonderful days, she even threatened me if we do not return next year... She also loved the surprise cake for her birthday!

In her mind, she had pictured us, hard-core fans, as people talking in mysterious ways for hours about obscure aspects of the game. But what she found was a group of lighthearted friends enjoying a weekend together in a charming medieval city full of nice activities for young and old, who wanted to play the game in as many different ways as possible... A total shock!

Not only did we finally meet in real life in an incomparable setting, but also met with people from Spain (@Desi, Jose, Rafa, Lola...) and other countries, with interesting stories.

Exhausted after exchanging gifts on Friday. I couldn't recover to become thrilled for meeting friends in our wandering around La Cité the same evening. It was exciting to meet everyone with a smile and chat while eating and drinking together.

On Saturday and on Sunday, we participated in the activities and took the opportunity to talk to Réka of HiG, mess around with the mural including fan-made tiles (check the pictures and sharpen your eyes), and play Carcassonne games in different flavors both in the old city and back in the house.

What an awesome weekend!!!

Friday (Part 1)

MrsMeepledrone and myself spent the first part of the week in Toulouse and @Linkarssonne picked us up at the hotel on Friday. Then we stopped by the airport to pick up @Willem and @MMike. Afterwards we had something to eat at a McDonald's (an old tradition from Essen) and headed for the house in Carcassonne.

Our scarce luggage. The red and the brown suitcases were all Carcassonne stuff.

It seems that the stuff put together by the five of us, including @Linkarssonne's filled the car completely. We were carrying boxes and bags on our laps too.

Ohhh! The healthiest of meals... What a treat!!! The three companion meeples coming with me everywhere certainly approved.

Once we arrived, unloading the Carcassonne stuff was crazy. Is this a kitchen or what? Boxes and more boxes cluttered all the place.

Friday (Part 2)

Visiting La Cité for the first time was a great experience. Getting lost in its streets and meeting friends was exciting in equal measure. In the end, we had dinner together... The more, the merrier... And enjoyed the city at night too when going back to the house.

Climbing up to the old city. Does this entrance ring any C1 bells? Well, forget about the circular markings!

Now we know what meeples see when they visit the Cathedral tile in Exp. 1 - Inns & Cathedrals.

The night view is also breathtaking.

Once at the house, we played our first game of Abstractssonne and another of Pinkassonne (with the New King's Orders) before retiring...

Saturday

Saturday was a day full of surprises. We started early to get a birthday cake for MrsMeepledrone. We had a very limited window between bakeries opened and @Linkarssonne had to leave for the French National Championship. @Challa007 and @Linkarssonne and I went scouting and succeeded after a few tries. After singing Happy Birthday and blowing the candles, we rushed to Carcassonne and disbanded. Everyone had a different adventure. Ha ha ha!

The view while coming back to the house with our trophy: an awesome and delicate raspberry cake.

MrsMepledrone was delighted with the cake. It was a total surprise and she was so excited! @Challa007 hid a meeple in it and rigged things so MrsMepledrone found it in her slice. Memorable! Ha ha ha!

Birthday cake and a Carcassonne game for breakfast? What a wonderful combination!

Just a small pause to watch La Cité on the hill before laving the house. What an amazing view from our bedroom!

The mural of tiles. Pick a tile from a box, glue it to the mural and take a coin... We glued also fan-made tiles... Why not? Contributing is mandatory! We met here Réka of Hans-im-Glück and talked with her for an hour or so. She is in charge of creating game component prototypes and some new Carcassonne expansions... I was surprised that MrsMepledrone and her chatted about techniques to improve cardboard supports and all (Do you remember the issues with Eloise the cat in The Spell Circles?

)... You can learn a lot from your own failures and successes! So interesting!

Later we met @DrMeeple !!! We went together to the activity next to the square full of restaurants where you could smell herbs and spices and learn about their properties and benefits. We got silver coins!

We also met @Ratz65 and and MrsRatz65 (from the CarcF) and @smoula and MrsSmoula (from CarcCZ)! So cool to chat with them and show them some fan-made creations: Pinkassonne, Abstractsonne, a mini map...

What a treat ending the day with a Winter-Summer game using the C2-WE transition tiles from the Czech forum! So much fun! Yeaaaaah!!!

Sunday

Sunday was a day with many many games. We, of course, visited the citadel, but today I only took pictures of games or so it seems...

Game in the morning by the Tourism Office. We played the Blanchiland Map available on the Forum but printed on a neoprene mat. So much fun! We earned coins and a coaster set each (red, yellow, blue, black, green)... We were static until we found out that there were pink coasters and they were almost impossible to find!!! Argghhhhh!!!

We also stopped by to see how the mural was progressing and check what happened to out fan-made tiles. Can you spot any of them?

Games in the evening: a Winter-Summer game was very well welcomed,...

...and a reprise of the Blanchiland map,...

...and the game with a select set of fan expansions: The Gambler's Luck, The City Gates, The Royal Gateways, Vistas, Wells,... and of course The Oktoberfest!!!! Some meeples left the board because their owner went to the Oktoberfest the previous day

Monday

@MMike had left the day before, but we stayed a little longer to enjoy a last visit to Carcassonne in the morning. The city was less crowded than during the weekend, and we could enjoy the city almost to ourselves with a little rain every now and then. No remains of the presence of the event... We could visit some stores and see some copies of the game and its expansions. Could it all have been a just dream?

My precious coins! Won with one's sweat and effort in the activities...

We could enjoy the city and its secrets behind every door or around any corner.

MrsMepledrone received a surprise gift from the Tourism Office: a plush piggy we named Chanchito... We don't know why she had the impulse to throw Chanchito into the air: up and down, up and down... especially when she saw Lady Carcas's statue at the Narbonne gate.

We couldn't allow Chanchito to suffer any mishap. We swore to protect it... Chanchitoooooo! Chanchitoooooo!

Saying goodbye to the citadel. We'd love to come again next year, right?

@Linkarssonne dropped @Willem and us at the airport. Our companion meeples could say goodbye properly... So long Willem! Have a nice flight! He had a few hours by himself at the airport to cherish those moments we all enjoyed and shared in Carcassonne.

In the evening, MrsMeepledrone and I finally were back home, and had a couple of Oktobestfest beer bottles to chat and remember all the fun! Thanks @Challa007 for this treat!!!

Epilog

We knew Chanchito was up to something! But we didn't know what...

Chanchito concealed all the pink coasters in plain sight, so nobody could take them.
- Chanchito, you are really naughty!!! What is everybody going to think of you when they find out?
