As previous years, a Carcassonne event is announced in the city of Carcassonne, France.

In four months' time, it's that time again: our Carcassonne games festival will be taking place in Carcassonne for the third time! Come with us to France and experience a great weekend in the medieval city of Carcassonne. Finally play Carcassonne in Carcassonne - and many other exciting programme highlights await you.
We won't tell you exactly what yet. But we've prepared something great for you again!


Did anyone here took part in previous editions?
Just like other foreign player in the comment of the original topic, I fear that taking a fly to the event may not be worth it due to the fact some parts of it are strictly reserved for French people (French National Tournament require to live in France and have the French nationality).

What usually happens there, side to the French National Tournament? Is it worth travelling to Carcassonne?
Playing the game in the city sounds like something amazing, are there games planned side to the tournament (or even a side tournament)? Ways to win the goodies (such as The Wonders of Humanity last year) for foreign players?

Linksux and Oldbonz have attended previously. The French National Tournament is only a small part of what takes place that weekend. There will be various activities all over the castle complex. Generally there are meeple-related games, educational activities, a Cundco booth, and of course you can tour the Chateau Comtal and the ramparts. Wonders of Humanity was a scavenger hunt that was open to everyone, not just French nationals.

Willem and Challa007 will be attending, and Willem has promised to bring a travel edition with him so I'm sure that all the non-French people will be able to play with them. If I could afford the flights, I would be going.

I hope to attend as well... I haven't attended previously, but all the people I know who attended were very happy with the experience both going with and without kids.

I was also thinking of looking here for this event. (First time for me)
For now, I'm figuring out what would be worth it financially (travel, accommodation, other expenses)

Has anyone already arranged something (some accommodation)
When do you arrive and depart?
Maybe we could come up with something together.

Meet-up happening in a few hours… we are already here… waiting for the others to arrive…

It’s so great to meet all those people you know from the forum but never actually met before…. 
We are in a rented house with @Linkarssonne (who organised this meet-up), @Meepledrone , @Willem and @MMike .
And the first thing we did, is to exchange all the gifts we brought for each other   
It took ages and felt like Christmas … I am sure @Willem will not be able to take all the stuff home for the museum…
I can reveal that several new fan-expansions (new to me at least) were made available
One of it is by me -> see attachment- and of course, coming by car from Munich you can guess what else I brought with me…
After that we explored parts of the collection of @Linkarssonne and @Meepledrone - amazing things to see!!! Feels exciting to actually hold the real Baba Yaga tile in your hands (sleeved of course)…  … or see all these individual tiles made for special occasions e.g. in Brazil or Catalonia or wherever in the world….
Well, but @Meepledrone who actually never had been to Carcassonne before, could not wait any longer… we had to go to “the city” … with the excuse to meet other Spanish people

We climbed up the hill and finally entered the magic place itself where we not only met with the other Spanish guys but also  with @Ratz65 the owner of the German Carcassonne Forum… and more  gifts were distributed …

On our way strolling through “La Cité” we came by the tourist office (closed) and suddenly the guys went all excited because they saw a lot of Carcassonne stuff in the display including something never seen before but turned in a way that the front of the tiles were not visible…
Soooooooo: we saw a glimpse of the new Wonders of Humanity II …!!!
There are two sheets , the back of the tiles are grey without a C, … more details at 10 a.m. today (means in 3,5 hours)

We finished the day with a dinner for 12 where a lot of Cassoulet was eaten and we discovered that our waitress is a fellow Carcassonne player… so more gifts were distributed …

Abu Simbel
Tikal
Angkor Wat
Terrakotta Armee
They each have 5 tiles
They have a gray back with the C in the middle tile.
We have to buy them for 6,99 EUR they are not given away freely this time.
