Cundco have stated they are not planning any reprints of the Spell Circles for now.
My guess is that they first want to clear all stock of this first run.
With that, i would expect the version with the production issue in the advent box of this year

Just took a look at the WikiCarPedia page for the Drawbridges. The promotional image shows all 12 bridges over motes that are filled with water. But the Tile Distribution images on the Wiki Page are showing 4 of the bridges over empty motes.

Are there changes to the rules that are not published yet?

The promotional material and the envelope only include moats, but the actual tiles include 4 ditches with no water. I asked about that discrepancy yesterday. Let's see what they say.

Yesterday the rules were updated on Cundco, only couple of things still to update, including the tiles with ditches instead of moats used in the rules.

A shame that they had to change the design to C3 and not produce the new expansions for C2 owners.
I for one won't be buying into C3, which is a shame - they have excluded a large proportion of their customer base by doing this.

Still, I expect the same was said when C2 came out

Yep, I said things like this back then and lived to regret it. C2 is dead; long live C3. Buy things now while the prices are affordable.

I thought about buying a C2 or C3 base game to play with the numerous expansions that aren't available in C1. I still haven't done it even though mixing stuff together is an eyesore. Maybe I will pick one up if it goes super cheap.

Well. When you compare C3 and C2 tiles, then C3 is just evolution of C2. More building, more detailed graphics, rounded corners (which were actually also on some C2 base game prints).
So C2 and C3 can be played together without any "distraction". So for me, doesn't matter if something is C3 or C2, it's same "edition" with different level of details.
