Reviews & Session Reports / megaCarc April 19-21, 2014
« on: April 19, 2014, 01:04:51 PM »
Earlier today, Saturday, we started a six player mega game of Carcassonne. After little over 4 hours we managed to finish a third of the draw tiles, and of course a longer break is needed.
The game might continue later during the night!

Testing to play with as much accuracy we can to the rules from CAR 6.4 but already we threw a few things out the window after about an hour of play!  :@

Included in this game session is:
1. Base game with River I
2. Wheel of Fortune
3. Big box 3, entire content
4. The Catapult
5. 2x Princess and the Dragon expansion boxes
6. 2x Traders and Builders expansion boxes
7. 3x Towers
8. Each of the six mini expansion along the seventh, Crop Circles
9. The Plague
10. Windrosen I
11. Count, King and Robbers (Z-man games)

Think that's all of them. We excluded the Phantom, forgot to bring them with me.
I'll post pictures as the game progresses.

Other Games / Rampage 2013 board game with similar followers!
« on: April 14, 2014, 04:37:11 PM »
A board game based on the classic computer game from the Eighties. The wooden figures are not exact match to the Carcassonne followers but very close, and they come with stickers. Saw a set up version of the game in a local shop. From what I could tell, they had all six colours to match the Carcassonne ones.

Turns out it was not 600 tiles I had after all (another post), but 551 doing a quick count! Oopsie.

Held this really heavy box in my hand today in one of the local stores and fell in love. Can't afford it, though.  :@
Has great resources for fanmade expansions.

General / Large Carcassonne tiles played in the streets.
« on: April 05, 2014, 11:09:39 AM »
Was browsing images online and found this one. A Swedish game club annual festivities, sort of, 2011 arranged by Sverok (sverok.se).

It's quite large the image so you may have to scroll within the forum to see more of the 'board'.  :meeple:

Reviews & Session Reports / MegaCarc Testrun with some of the RPG elements.
« on: February 18, 2014, 06:25:14 AM »
Thought I upload a few pictures today.  :meeple:

The RPG expansion is immense and a progressing slow. But it's ok, that's part of the fun! My apologies for the lousy resolutions as I'm still stuck with my cellphone's camera.

Some of the elements tested are:

The 'dungeons'. Golden pyramids on the pictures, hopefully distinguishable. The Tower expansion is replaced with dungeons, ruins and similar events. If a player chooses to, he or she can draw a challenge card and place a follower on that tile until the challenge is complete and get a reward.

Resources (for crafting or selling). There are various coloured transparent gem tokens that acts as resources representing the player's coloured meeple. Wheel of Fortune tiles are now resource tiles. (one tile is one resource worth and any numbered tile is one resource + that number.)

Start setup of tiles. Disregard the heaps around it.  ;D Takes forever to pile up every time I do tests!

A three player game after the initial River placed.

Few minutes into the game.
-Golden pyramid challenge card was: When at least one city or road is completed linking the tile (with pyramid) you gain all completed combinations. Example: The tile with a pyramid has a city and a road. When a tile placed later in the game completes the city (even without followers) and advertently also completes the road (again even without a follower), the player who has a follower next to the pyramid scores for both the city and road.
-The transparent red gems are there on the picture just to show how many resources the  :red-meeple: player received for placing the Wheel of Fortune tile with the number 3 on it when the road was completed by the  :black-meeple: player.

So, without finishing the game properly, my sister and I decided to fill out the entire table with as many tiles as possible!

Thank you for reading!  :meeple:

Reviews & Session Reports / Turbo Mega Carcassonne Run
« on: September 15, 2013, 08:26:17 AM »
Sister and I thought we'd throw in everything I had and run a 'quick' game of Carcassonne. Although we used every expansion I had we played with loose rules.

Final scoring: Me (yellow) at 652 and sister (blue) at 157. At least 150 of my points comes from the final scoring with me having 13 gold bars and scored 30 points from the barrels, cloth and weed.

Some of the things we did differently:
1. We were competing on who would build the highest tower instead of applying normal rules. Hers was 11 stacks mine 7.
2. The plague, we just used the tiles and placed markers around it. Laugh, haven't read the rules yet.
3. The Catapult. Instead of normal rules, we would throw meeple tile and have them land on tiles, similar to the Mini Expansion Flyer.
4. Bazaar effect: Player placing the tile draws two tiles, chooses one to keep and give the other away to the opponent.
5. The Barn: If the farm area it encompass becomes sealed (i.e. you can't add more grass from a new tile to the farm) it is return to the player.
6. If one of us had to take a break, other player would play the opponents round doing as best one can to aid the opponent.
7. Wheel of Fortune. We moved the pig but didn't really make use of the expansion at all. Laugh.
8. The Messenger Mini Expansion: We only used one meeple allowing the regular meeple be used to put into play. We got plenty of mail even without having two meeples on the scoreboard.

Games and expansions used:
1. Big Box 3 (base game + 5 expansions)
2. Wheel of Fortune
3. 6x Mini Expansions (incl. Crop Circles)
4. The Tower
5. The Catapult
6. River I
7. The Plague
8. Houses
9. The Phantom (1x each player only)

Seems every time I take a picture with my phone the image becomes poorer in quality. Laugh. Maybe it's a digital disposable camera!

Reviews & Session Reports / 3 Player Mega Game
« on: September 08, 2013, 06:53:10 AM »
Hello everyone!

Thought I share a semi-mega game of Carcassonne completed earlier today (Sunday September 8, 2013).

Score: Yellow (me) at 195, Black (my cousin) at 166 and Blue (my sister) at 118. The score seem low because of reduction method we sometimes use. When we are out of the 50/100 tiles we reduce 50 points for every player. End score could have been 95, 66 and 18 for example.

Picture 1: Each player throws their regular meeples to see who gets to go first, second etc. Player with most standing meeples starts. If equal one with most standing on one 'hand' or upside down wins the toss. Below, Blue has 3 meeples standing and goes first, second is Yellow (me).

Picture 2: A devious play from my part. Landing that tile with the Cloister I score for it, take the Gold Bars and get solo credit for completing the entire City (9 + 57 points) as well as claiming a Cloth token. Oh, and I get to take a nother turn because of the Builder!  >:D

Picture 3: My sister placing a tile finishing 'my City' but I score NO points! Instead, my cousin gets full score and because my sister has a Castle adjacent she scores for the city as well! I had a huge lead here so this was a very nice move from her part. My cousin got the Gold Bars and sister the Cloths and Weed token.

Picture 4: End board before final scoring.

Picture 5: Everything neatly fitted into Wheel of Fortune box.

General / Carcassonne Sliding Puzzle 5x5 Grid Fun!
« on: August 20, 2013, 02:35:39 PM »
Hello everyone! :meeple:

So, earlier this evening I got this idea of a sliding puzzle using Carcassonne tiles. Surprisingly, with a few tweaks you too can actually play this!

What I did:
1. Created a .jpg file with a finished 5x5 grid using the basic tiles that comes with the game.
2. Upload it to my server (picture below). http://sydby.com/carcassonne/screenshots/CarcassonneSlidingPuzzle25.jpg
3. Unfortunately, as far as I know it needs Google Chrome installed with the addon 'Puzzle for Chrome' which is free and one-click installed. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/puzzle-for-chrome/mbalnpbcmecdckpghgacibglihkgamkl?hl=en
4. Went to my picture using Chrome browser and simply right-click on it selecting the addon 'Puzzle for Chrome' and the next second I was already playing it!

YouTube clip to a recorded game test I did:

The picture I created:

Credits goes to 'unintended' user, real name Daniel Perez Alvarez for this great addon for Google!

Hello!

Thought I post a link to a very interesting take on Carcassonne tiles made with LEGO.

If ever enough general LEGO parts obtained, I may try to at least make ONE tile myself just for fun.  :meeple:
