I think I share a similar opinion. The art for boxed Winter Edition was originally done by Anne Pätzke. So in my opinion the Winter edition isn't a "pseudo-C1" it's more like a "proto-C2". C2 came out a little later, after the snow melts, C2 is Carcassonne: Summer edition.

It's made more complicated because the recent release of the Winter Edition, that includes this tile with a garden, will have been overseen by Marcel Grober, the artist responsible for C3. But maybe the tiles were created earlier.

Either way, I think this tile is a nice way to show that the games are in the same place, it is Carcassonne after all.

Seems like a good time to repost an image I made back in 2015"

It feels a bit silly complaining that you can't use a feature in a game where it is not meant to be used in  :o
Guys my english is not perfect but sometimes I wonder if you even read my posts. I never complained about not being able to use abbots. I was noticing that a game version who does not include abbots include an abbott mechanic instead, something that's weird to me. It was intended as a playful remark.

I've reread your post, but I still read it as you saying you're not adding abbots to the winter edition, which sounds like a negative to me.
As Decar mentioned, it was designed by Anne Pätzke, before the C2. When it was made, the abbot mechanic didn't exist.
I'd see it more as such, as decoration  ;D
I like the idea of the garden being frozen in Winter and therefore not being used, only to melt in the spring!

It should be a garden frozen in Winter, but HiG does not give it any specific use in the WE.

Are there any good places to purchase a genuine copy of the winter edition with the river expansion these days? Would love to get one, but sure eBay is full of fakes, all shops in Australia are out of stock and postage is crazy these days. If anyone knows any good locations it would be great. My poor little gingerbread man is so lonely.

The only place I found that would ship the 2020 Winter Edition with River to Australia when I ordered was via Amazon.de

And these shipping costs are sky high offcourse.

I am not from Germany but I have to drive 40 minutes to get there.
My wife and I sometimes go shopping there. Maybe I can buy them there and send them.
I think shipping costs with PostNL are around 20 euros, also to Australia for example under 2 kg with track and trace.

I paid 20 eur for postage with Amazon, although I just checked then and the price has gone up to about 28 eur for shipping now.

The winter edition is on sale at the Müller store. I hope other stores will follow.

Has there been any news on an English release for this edition? My Gingerbread man and Crop circles are lonely.

From what I understand going through the thread, this was a special limited release though it got a wider release from HIG and Asmodee DE this year so it feels more possible now.

No news yet, and I wouldn't hold my breath  :o
ZMG have not been the fastest with new releases, and Im not expecting them to bring this one out tbh. It was a limited release in Germany that got a wider release now, but no news from any other publisher making this in a localised version. A lot of publishers have made the winter edition, and have stopped making them for a while now

-face turns blue from holding breath-

I am patient in the wait.. I prefer having english editions, I even went the more expensive english castle and got the falcon printed instead of the more affordable Zamek edition. I guess I will have too keep my eye out on a cheap english of the old version and buy then sell a german edition for the river tiles.

What made this different for other publishers to not localize it? H&G got picked up and both have been out of print for a similar time. This still released under Carcassonne unlike Zamek (at-least I don't think its no longer connected?).
