Builders and Traders: is extending a road with builder obligatory?

Hi Guys!

I recently bought a Builders and Traders extension and the rules concerning placing extension tile to road/city with builder inside are not clear to me.
Lets assume situation when there is a road with my builder on board - and my turn comes.
Now if I draw a tile which can be used to extend the road with builder do I have to extend the road?
Or I am allowed to place the tile somewhere else (and of course not get extra turn in such case)?
