Hi all, just a quick note to say that I'm attending to the UKGE on Friday. So if you're going it would be cool to have a high five from other UK fans.

I think some are attending the Carcassonne Championships, which is on the Saturday 11 til 6. Unfortunately I can't make those this year.

I think the rule to remember is, if you can place a tile, you have to, regardless of the outcome.  If you could play your tile anywhere else, you could play it there, even if that means leaving big cities incomplete.

Experienced players sometimes setup the board so that there is only one beneficial place for the other player to waste a turn.  They're pretty tricky to pull off though!

Hi Woz,  Welcome to the forum.

This sounds like one of the many many many different variants of the Fishing Huts that were originally created and worked like a cloister on the river and then got extended. I'm not sure all the variants of the rules still exist. I think Wolnic's page probably includes them by name. But I think this was the original and a good place to start:

I'm pretty sure it came out already... On April 1st!

If you want me to DM me his phone number, I'd appreciate it just do I can check he's ok. I'm sure the things he are holding for you are safe, it was very much a shock to hear he was unwell.  I'm sure he you'll find a way to get them to you.

Something that I'm not going to do a very good job explaining, is that using city caps to simply score 4 point cities means that they're not being used to close larger cities that score a lot more points.  Dangos with lots of open edges have less potential to be closed off and score; well placed caps can mean they're being used to their full potential.

I'll try and explain this another way:  If you have 4 tiles which are caps, you might score 8 points.  But If I had 1 cap I might almost have a closed city with 10 points, because of a pennant, and the potential to score 14 in another turn or two, where as the other player need to start something new again.

Farming does convolute things, but there's as much chance of either player getting those 4 pt cities, and usually when they clump together they leave big opportunities to glom together.

So I'm a big advocate of keeping the simpler rules, even if the original or 2nd edition ones were more balanced, as I suspect they become much-of-a-muchness when considering the strategy of all 3 sets of rules.

I suspect a pro-player, (or @danisthirty) would have some good insights into how these pan out during games.

Hi jacky1st2016 - I've just edited your original post because I don't know how public what you mentioned is.

I have also asked a few people to reach out and check that he is ok.  His English is most excellent, I have the fortune of meeting him at Essen in 2016, 2018, and last year in 2022.

I'm not sure he'd be happy with you passing his phone number on, but I'd be happy to send him a message and check that everything is ok.

Tapatalk allows you to reply on the thread, not on the post.

Another way to make games longer is simply to use a faster clock. You'll be able to play the base game with 72 tiles, but if it was ticking faster, 2 hours could be over before you know it!

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I'd have hoped the simplest thing to do was click reply!  And the incentive for everyone is that I'll randomly delete their messages if it gets out of hand :D

Haha oldbonz - I assure you; they're much better when they've been turned over.

BBG, In the game's defense the City Gates tiles were produced as a print and play by a fan and selected by HiG to be published on their website as a fan-expansion.

The right price is usually the highest price you can sell it for.  Remember you only need to find one buyer.  Good luck!

Hi all, when I'm catching up on the forum there's something that really bugs me, and it's when I'm reading a post to find that the next person has quoted the entire post again, pictures and all,  simply to reply with a short sentence.  Even worse is when someone quotes the previous message that already quoting their previous message.  I find the thread becomes far longer than it ever needed to be.  The structure of the forum, allows for a thread of conversation to form without having to quote the entirety of the previous post.  Imagine if I had to say everything I'd ever heard or said before ever adding to it.  I also end up with email notifications where it's utterly unclear who's saying what, but that's a limitation of our email service.

There are good times to use quotes, for example: sometimes it makes sense to quote a portion of a post, or sometimes to quote a portion of a post that happened a while ago where the flow of conversation has moved on some what.

So please consider using quotes wisely.

I'm going to be particularly grumpy now and warn that I'm going to indiscriminately delete posts where I think someone has clicked quote instead of reply.
